  • Had an amazing 18 hour fishing trip aboard the Big Jamaica out of Brielle, NJ. Had a full limit on Jumbo sized Black Seabass and all the Porgies I wanted. Had a bit of a rough ride back but was well worth it!!

    Sea bass are always fun to catch, and are great eating too. We catch dozens of them both on the inshore and offshore grounds. Aside from their long-range tuna trips (which are like 120 miles out), my local head boat usually goes between 10-20 miles out. We typically use 12oz sinkers, but we've gone as heavy as 18. We use squid and spearing for bait in the summer (when we focus on fluke) and switch over to clams for our fall cod season.

      Totally worth it to do at least once. Make sure you are prepared for a trip like this. Need the right rods, reels, leader, weights. Hope you get out there!

      I completely agree! The season is starting off good for them now. There is quality and quantity being caught.

      😂Yea and we usually outfish almost everybody with it! All honesty, the equipment we use is fine, it decent enough that it gets the job done and has lasted me for years. Although I have been trying to break them on recent trips to have an excuse to buy new updated equipment. Until then, if ain't broke don't fix it! Tight lines!😎

    What equipment would you bring on that head boat? Cooler, buckets, bait, lead?? What do they give ya?

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před 2 lety +2

      Def a cooler with plenty of ice! Don't need fancy pricey setups, just something that will get the job done. Plenty of options that can handle a pound of lead or more and has line capacity to 300 yards of braided line. Bait is supplied free, other equipment is available at the boat for a fee including a rod rental if you don't have one, but I don't recommend the rods they have available. The setup that I mostly used in the video costs around $180 including the price of the braided line.

    Definitely a lot of shorts, over limits. Great fishing and we know all the party boats are like this but I probably wouldn’t post the buckets ….

      This was recorded in NJ waters in the winter time when the limit is 15 and the min size was about 13 ". There were no undersized fish kept and we didn't go over the limit.

  • @maximusfiya
    @maximusfiya Před 2 lety +1

    what's your rig setup? Did not limit last time. I think my gear is too heavy.

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před 2 lety +2

      In the spring through summer, I usually use 20-30 lb test. I tie a slightly modified high-low tig but standard high low rigs work fine for me. I use 30 lb braid as my main line. I will switch to 40lb test leader and main line for offshore fishing in the fall and winter. I always bring two s set up with spare rigs tied and ready to go to keep me fishing. Let me know if you want more specific info.

    Just got off Big Jamaica on Sunday 6/11/2023. The limit is 10. 12.5 length. What were you cutting on the fish with the scissors?

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před rokem +1

      I was cutting their gills to bleed the out. The die faster and the meat looks and tastes better without the blood. It also helps with preservation of the meat if you decide to freeze them.

    What size hook did u use ?

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před 2 lety +1

      4/0-6/0 octopus hooks work great for seabass and will hold for Cod. With 4/0 octopus hooks you will also catch porgies but if you want more porgies use 2/0-3/0 octopus hooks! I was using 3/0 for the top hook and 5/0 for the bottom. Hope that helps!

  • @fordiffa7012

    Hi how long does it take you to reel a fish ?

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před 2 lety

      It takes about 30 seconds for the bait to hit and about a minute to reel up with a fish! Had to cut a lot of that out in the editing.

      16 ounces is standard on this trips but sometimes more may be required. 16 ounces held fine all day long on this trip.
