  • Great day on the water on the party Boat Big Mohawk out of Belmar, NJ. Gotta get there super early to get on the boat. Worked hard all day to get a limit, including the big one at the end of the trip that almost won the pool!
    Thanks for watching!!

      Yes, you almost have to be there the day before to get a spot. Getting there that early makes for a long day but def worth it!

    Enjoyed your Vid, Could you give your recommendation on what a person should think to bring on a trip like that. Like how many rods and what type. How many jigs and what types and lastly do you need to bring your own bait ??, I notice you were using Gulp, what your take on it.

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před 3 lety +1

      I like to use gulp as well as bait that is supplied by the boat. As far as the rods, that depends on what you want to use. Since conditions can change throughout the day I always take 2-3 rods with me. One is a medium heavy spinning rod that I use for jigging that can handle up to 3 oz jig heads. The 2nd and 3rd rod are use primarily for drifting bait with heavier lead. They can handle leads weights up to 10-12 oz and are baitcaisting set ups. Those set ups cover the vast majority of conditions. When there is little current or wind against tide, working jigs on the spinning outfit will outperform since you can cast out and work the jig back. The baitcaisting outfit can be used in all conditions.

    Great video. What size jig were you using to keep bottom?

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před 3 lety

      Used primarily 1 1/5 oz but had to go to 2oz for the rest of the trip. I try not to use more than 2 oz, otherwise it can be better to drift with with heavier lead and bait. Or use the chicken rig which can be very effective no matter what weight you use and you can work it like a jig!

    @MudSharkZ Před 3 lety +1

    Hey there, I enjoyed the video and subscribed 👍 I have a few questions about that boat. Do they allow you to fish braid and what time in the AM would you recommend showing up. Also, what size jigs would you recommend? Thanks.

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes you can fish braid on the boat and is highly recommended. You need to get there very early, the boat leaves at 6am and you need to be there around 3:30-4am to ensure you get a ticket for the boat as it it limited. It sounds really early but by the time you get there there will be several guys there already. Take jigs from 1.5 - 3 oz. That should do the job for the most part!

    • @MudSharkZ
      @MudSharkZ Před 3 lety

      @@NEFishing Thanks for the info. Do you fish braid straight to your jig, or do you use a mono leader?

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před 3 lety +1

      @@MudSharkZ i always tie on a leader. I like to use 20 lb leader for most applications for fluke, but check in with the captain or mates to find out if they will be fishing in areas with sticky structure (rocks, reefs, wrecks,etc) and scale up your leader to 30-40 lb. There are good quality fish in those areas and you don't want to loose a good fish because your leader broke after rubbing on some structure.

    Great video man. How heavy of a bucktail were you using?

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před 3 lety +1

      1 1/5 - 2 oz, if you have to use more than that it's better to drag bait with lead!

    How many fish can you keep on a party boat ?

    • @NEFishing
      @NEFishing  Před 3 lety

      For the most part the same amount if you were fishing from shore, here are a couple special regulations for party boat for certain species - ex. You can keep 5 bluefish on a party boat trip but can only keep 3 if you're fishing anywhere else.
