8 Reasons to Play Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent

A year of CotC has been quite the marvellous journey. I defeated Herminia the 31st of July 2022 - my first "Master". Tytos and Auguste followed shortly thereafter on August 1st and 2nd respectively, but it took me another week to defeat Pardis, which happened on August 10th. And since then I've been enjoying this rare gem of an RPG - every single day.
I want to give something back for the joy and enthusiasm I've experienced with this game. So here is my love letter to the developers of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent.

This game is a gem that will sadly never get the recognition it deserves. I’ve been loving the OT series since a few years ago and i’m glad I gave this a try after getting past the “it’s a mobile game” barrier. OST that somehow manages to top nier and persona’s, battle system with a low skill floor and high ceiling, absurd visuals and writing.. It just has it all. It’s crazy. It really is a game first and a mobile game second
It's a shame how overshadowed its been by the "mobile game" mark. If it was released on console I bet it would be a totally different story.
Terrible Monetization (even for a gacha) and the continuous launch drama really hurt this game. All the issues with this game are 100% SQEX greed. It's easily the best mobile RPG out there, and it has gotten a lot better since launch. Hopefully it has long legs.
The game is on its 1st year anniversary which includes a ton of free promotions like:
- 100 free character pulls,
- Over 1000 free rubies,
- A free 5* selector and much much more.
The promotions will last until August 9th 2023 so now is the best time to start! So get out there, download the game and most of all have fun on your journey :D
it's already been a year?! Damn time flies fast. Great to see that you're still keeping on with this good ass game my dude, 1st anniv's definitely got me itching to redownload

@@Archto_v2 Oh hey man! So long time and no see! I've really missed you around. The game has improved lots over time. Several QoL changes and lots and lots of new content. This is the best time to return, so far!
Damn. That was a great video. You just described what made this game so good in ways that I simply couldn't.

Great edit! I normally detest gacha games in general due to predatory monetization, but I gave Cotc a try since I really like the original game and I'm glad that I did. Also, I can make a great team to deal with all story contents and most of side contents despite that I'm hoarding majority of the pulling currency that I received for free. I've been F2P for almost a year and now I finally brought the special deals to both support the game and for future units I wanted.
Finally, thank you for uploading alot of good contents of the game since its release. :)

@@EmpyreanSky Since day 1. I've logged in almost every day (358 days as of today). I still have a bit of content to finished so I've got more free rubies coming to me at least!

It’s a damn shame that most OT fans are avoiding this like a plague because it’s a gacha. The new OST alone is just beyond amazing.
I really wish SE to consider - in the future - packaging the whole game into a singleplayer package to other systems while figuring out a way to remove the gacha thing.

I can't understand why Octopath 1 and 2 were a success and this one is underrated. This is just a fantastic game. Good video!!
Me neither. I guess the mobile format is deterring for traditional console players. To have Octopath in handheld is a godsend I would never thought possible as a kid.

Octopath 2 wasn't that much of a success.
1 was a massive success because the style was a novelty at the time and because Nintendo marketed the hell out of it. Switch exclusives usually do well.
@@felo507yt Yeah but godamn octopath always had the best turn based combat , i started the mobile game a few day before OT2 came out ( i was too hyped xD)
i'm 28 years old and never commited to any gacha, i tried some of them but didn't like them at all, i felt frustrated and didn't really care much about the story ( i'm a story guy usually)
but here i'm having so much fun, 400hours in actually, i'm fkin lucky cause i got A2, Richard, Therion, Lars, Alfyn,ophilia ( almost all the best characters except cyrus, titi, viola,alaune odette and molu) i just paid 30 € for a fucking richard xD
Some of the stories are MARVELOUS... right my dear auguste?
I really liked the story of the bestower of wealth and some others
even if some of them are not really good ( why the powers stories always have boring antagonist? i don't know)
I still miss elrica like everyone... it's such a journey
@@Elyakel I love the turn based games. Maybe because I grew up with those types of games. For Mobile this game is insanely good.
Honestly i never gave a gacha game money, but this time i do it
but not only to get 2b or auguste (i obtained them in the free gems pulls after all lmao) i do it because that game its MARVELOUS! i love that game, its just amazing all the things you can do, the music, the exploration, the lore, all of this and i thing give my support worth it
i say that from my heart, I don't like to give my money so easily

Same , the only microtransaction i paid in 10 years was a glamour in FF XIV ( probably like 10 bucks) , i never though i will spend in a gacha game, i don't spend much but still
The game is F2P friendly so when you spend, you do it because you want it, not because the game forced you to
Great game, not having a pc client hurts it ALOT
This game also detects emulators and doesnt want you to play, doesnt make sense to fight emus and no PC client :(
I really like this game even if I'll not generally reccommend it (I'd just feel horrible if someone starts to whale way too hard for their own good based on my reccommendation). Best thing about it is still the soundtrack though x) so many absolute bangers
For real. I used to stay in nameless town for hours and just listen. Then I bought the OST.
I really love this game, simply exceptional!
I'm a spanish speaker though I have not a major problem to understand. It's hard to share this awesome game between my friends because of being only in english 😔
Yeah i have the same problem , i'm french and as you know it , french sucks so much in english studies they can't even understand a lot of basic thing for a lot of them
I think it's a big barrier in europe because of that , but it is really worth to pay some translation if they lose money? i don't really know honestly
I feel like there are some issues with the storytelling. Though I'd have to replay all the earlier parts to make any good critiques.
The first 9+8 chapters of "Master of..."-series sort of form a coherent story. When "Bestower of..." begins its sort of develops into its own. Both series are good in their own way methinks ^^,
@@EmpyreanSky I think the first three Master chapters were good. But Bestower of Fame dropped the ball at the end with a twist that had no buildup, and the newest chapters aren't very interesting.
A large part of COTC's story is watching cutscenes explaining Orsterran politics and religion, which wouldn't be a problem if they were an -bit interesting. Heck, they don't fully explain most of the concepts.
We don't know about gods like Aeber and Dohter and how they're perceived by the rest of the world. And Orsa and Finis's story of creation is very generic. I wish they got a little more creative there and made something that wasn't a direct spoof of Greek mythology...
@@edcaous I may be blessed with stupidity in this case, because I didn't think about any of this. I've just enjoyed it for what it is. Perhaps I should adopt a more critical thinking mind.
I'm playing Outerplane too and I'm loving it. Octo is sad of the low ruby or free pulls. This 1st anniversary is kinda lame. 7 pull is ok at least
any suggestions for a new player for the selector if i didnt get that unit in free pulls? started around alaune banner and rerolled her!
It's difficult to say. Depends on what your roster needs, whom you like and whatnot. Personally I feel you can't go wrong with any of them. They all have their moment to shine, so my suggestion is to go with whom you like, for whatever reason.
That said Therion, Lynette, Viola, Cyrus, Ophilia, Alfyn, Z'aanta and Lars are some of the most popular choices. Very versatile characters.

@@EmpyreanSky thanks for your advice! i decided to reroll the free pulls and managed to roll z'aanta and lars and 4.5 kasimi and sophia as starter! guess im set and can chose anyone i want from selector? and we still get 4 more free multis^^

I agree with 0:52 as i am free to play and did most major content outside of the last 2 limbo duo NPCs!!!

Theo is my first and ever character when i started and first A4 so i simp! Herminia sama can step on me! Auguste can beat me down to my corpse! Protect rinyuu chan at all cost...! And scarecrow can put me on a headlock !..... octopath is the best!!!!!❤❤❤😂

2. Terrible Low rates
3. Expensive Packs
4. Heavily Powercreeped
5. OP accessories locked behind dupes
6. Some contents you need certain units
7. Horrible grind for weapons
8. If you f2p then sucks to be you since this game cater towards whales with guaranteed step up banner.

I'll necro this as it's pretty ridiculous, point #2 and #8 are lies. I'm f2p and basically never play this game after first month of launch, login once a week to click my hunt emulator macro to max out gold stones with weekly ticket cap... yet have A4 A2, A1 Cyrus, Ophilia, Olberic, Wrath, Kouren, T10 Lynette, A3 Viola, Richard, A1 Z'aanta, A2 Ex Fiore (this was stupid lucky, 3 in one pull), EX Sofia, and many others while still always maintaing 4k rubies for future. Didn't even login once from sept to dec last year, also sitting on 3 veteran traveler seals for guaranteed 5* units.
The wpn grinds are garbage, finally fixed by fortune weapon and pretty fun board game to acquire them. Slow and unoptimized menus with no presets, just mass wasting your time left and right redoing customizations. Having to redo normal mode stages on job towers after reset instead of starting at EX stages. A lot of little things like this add up quickly to making it a subpar game outside of the main story; which is really the only reason for most to stick around considering how many amazing gacha games exist these days.

My hope was that people who are not subbed or currently playing, would see this and try the game.
