      He didn't need to talk in detail about the wives history after their breaks with Mickey. That was off track of what the biography was really supposed to be about, which was Mickey. Those ex wives details should have been left for another bio made for that information.

  • @pangorban1
    @pangorban1 Před 7 lety +14

    Yes. If it can happen to Mickey Rooney, it can happen to anyone. Elder abuse is a fate that hangs over us all - in a society that worships the young and throws the old onto the scrapheap. Advice to the young: secure your financial future. Your government will not protect you when you are old, as it's too focused on capital growth. But then again, we should not give up on creating a political environment that caters for the security of the old. They are our elders and full of the wisdom of a life lived.

    Another nice presentation. Mickey was indeed a show business genius and his legacy is remarkable. Even in so called "B" movies he never gave less than 100% of his talent. And, like many geniuses, he was not great at handling real life and was probably impossible to live with. Oh well, a lot of people are impossible to live with, but they ain't Mickey Rooney!

    Mickey had 8 biological children but never fostered relationships with them. Walked away. Then step-son abuses him and robs him (elder abuse). If Mikey had been a father to his children, things would have probably worked out better. His kids would probably have protected and nurtured him. What a fool.

    This is a damn shame that a great star of the Golden Age of Hollywood should go 'out' like this. He had such a hard cruel life towards the last few years of his life. And with only $18000 to leave in his will. This man made millions along with his greatest screen partner Judy Garland. These two looked like the happiest two kids in the movies in the 40's. I do know some of my Texas friends saw and talked to him at one of our golf courses in Dallas, and they said he was a super guy. I just wonder why he couldn't stay married? I’ve always felt that Mickey Rooney was one of Hollywood’s biggest talents. He was miscast in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” as a Japanese neighbor (IMO), but other than that I really liked his movies with Judy Garland. Sadly, he spent his income-which was substantial-on horse races, parties and then his numerous wives took him for all they could get. I have his first autobiography published in 1965, very good reading. He scored a broadway hit with Sugar Babies later on. I didn’t know about his tragic lady years until after he died. Jerry, you do an excellent job with these autobiographies. I appreciate the pictures and updates on his ex-wives. I wonder why Mickey’s children, he had so many, didn’t help him in his later years.

    I read his autobiography, in the 40's the studio asked him to let the surrealist Salvador Dali stay with him, Dali gave him two of his paintings,..he said I just put them in my garage ! lol

    I live in the Conejo Valley. The Conejo Valley is known for being the shooting location for Little House on the Prairie. We have a lot of movie stars who live out here. One of them was Mickey Rooney. I once met Mickey Rooney at Kmart. I was dressed horribly because I was painting my house. I was at Kmart to buy more paint, when all of a sudden I noticed Mickey Rooney standing right next to me. I blurted out "Hey, You're Mickey Rooney!!!" To this Mickey Rooney looked up at me & with a crusty old voice, Mickey said, "Yea!" then Mickey walked away with his wife. . .

    I always liked Mickey Rooney, grew up watching his movies. What a sad time for him as he aged. I wonder why none of his biological children helped him, as it says he stated that they were all better off than he was. Just a sad story but very interesting. I enjoyed hearing about his ex-wives, too, and what happened to them.

    93 years of age is not bad going at all. I always thought Mickey seemed an extremely distant character, even when he made fun of himself, and perhaps he got quite lonely. I think Judy was the one he wanted and perhaps without showbiz and booze they could have been very good for each other. But then many of the young stars grew up with problems in later life, or went through lots of marriages like Liz Taylor, to try to make up for the home and the years they lost when the big studios closed down.
    I love how you voice these in a matter-of-fact way and covering all the angles and stories rather than than the shock-horror documentaries on TV. Mickey was one of the longest serving actors and he deserves to be more respected.

    If I'm not mistaken He appeared on David Letterman's Late Night. Before He came on stage He was wearing a turtle neck sweater Pulled the neck up, raised His hair line up, pulled His hairline into two sharp ears pulled down the waste of the sweater down about to the floor and waddled out on stage looking as if He was from "Star Wars". It was great. Yup.

    Jerry, He started TV extremely late, with "The Adventures of The Black Stallion," where he made a name on cable television. He also stayed close to his co-star, Richard Ian Cox, who played the teenage boy that rode horses, which was his 1st show. Before his death, he also experienced elder abuse.

    I absolutely agree Mickey Rooney was over all the most talented man to ever play in films. He could do everything act both drama and comedy sing, dance, and as a musician world class. When I watch Mickey and Judy Garland jam on stage I can't take my eyes off of Mickey's fingers as he bangs away on the piano. If he had decided to be only a musician I think he would have been the world's first superstar. You see Jerry I enjoy the movies but I love music and his performances are stunning he is so in the groove. At one time he had more hit singles on bill board than any man alive and he did it all under a synonym so the public did not know it was him. He is in one my most favorite comedies the underrated The Comic with Dick Van Dyke where they play two former silent movie comedians at the end of their days. The entire movie is told in retrospect on how they had it all and because of their foolishness they lost every bit of it in the end. So many of these talented artists end up with nothing because they are so gifted as artists they sacrifice their ability to be businessmen. The rock band Pink Floyd though they had the best selling rock album of all time Dark Side of the Moon (72) they were almost broke when they released the album the Wall (79). We also see modern movies stars like Kevin Bacon and Nicholas Cage experiencing this all to common situation of ending up broke. We see this same sad story with professional athletes.

      @@JerrySkinner1943 You are very most welcome Mr Skinner it's the quality of your videos that inspire me to think. And the video from your vehicle gives these stories a feeling that I am listening to the history of a family. The family of man their history is my history and my history is man's history. So from that perspective I thank you brother. Every time I hear a well done biography I learn something about life the good the bad and the ugly! lol
