- A mates Fg was making a knocking noise in the top end so a few weeks ago we pulled the tappet cover off and the infamous hardening on the cams had failed. So we found a cheap FG motor and swapped them over.

You can also bend up a coat hanger and use that to lock the tensioner just like the dip stick Atomic use. You don’t need to drop wood in there.

I have a xr6 NA manual fg ute same colour I love my ute and was looking at getting new cams for her and a stage 2 street fighter package. Nice work tho mate you shure know ur Barra engines
good effort .. i hav to ask you Bud , whats the idea with the vice grips locked onto the cam? when your reinstalling the cams and guides.. also is there any lift different s in fg to ba cams

Had a cam and a head replaced on a 2011 fg xr6t recently at 75k. Had been knocking around car yards for awhile before I bought it early last year though. Maybe water has gotten into it over time. That or bad oil.

Fg are known to have soft cam lope. Common problem, happen to mine.

Hey man! I’m located in calamvale Brisbane. My Fg about 7-8months about started making a knocking sound when it’s warm. Do you have fb so I could send you a video of what it sounds like
You're keen letting the chain drop down like that when taking the cams out... I always cable tie it up so that it doesn't skip a tooth on the bottom sprocket, best to keep tension on it if you can.. BTW, it looks like the tip of the left guide was missing, they stick up past the steel casing usually and are always the first to break off. Also, no torque wrench to do up the cam retainers!? :|
New top guide installed, done the chain this way 25 times, torque settings are in my arm.

How many kms? Did they use heavy weight oil other than 5w30?

My BA XR6 TURBO cams look like this. 120kms.. Can I swap to NA cams and it will run fine without a tune?

Hey mate live your vids. I’ve got an FG F6, just got it finished. Fuel pumps fuel rail, pressure reg. Intercooler, exhaust valve springs. Injectors. It made 550hp on a hub dyno. I have an drag event coming in November, if really appreciate some tips on the best way to launch. Burnouts at the line ect. It’s a stock ZF box. I’ll be running some drag tires of some

Hey man yeah traction control off definitely. My best 60 foot time so far (1.58) has been launching in 2nd gear with my zf in the Force 6 but its built so im not too sure how 550hp 2nd gear launch with a stock zf would go.
Thanks mate, yep gear box upgrade next year sometime. So basically I can stage, load up on the front break in first or second? I’m assuming you launch in second because first is too aggressive? I’m running stick ECU some no two step set up or anything 😟
Yeah man same, i used the footbrake and handbrake to load it up in 1st or 2nd and when ya happy let the 2 brakes go and you'll either launch or get wheelspin lol imo

So what would be the cause of these lobes being so ground down and wouldnt it just repeat again with new cams?
Its believed to be a failure of the hardening when the cams where made.
Could it be the pcv valve muk ing things up. ??
