    This is absolutely hitting Glowforge where it counts, in price, power, and capability. And it doesn't require a cloud service to use. Sounds like a great option if you're in the market for it, and I love having options. I'll be interested to see what you think after using it for a while. Thanks for sharing!

    The proprietary cloud based glowforge software was the deal breaker for me. Also the subscription, if i can avoid subscription based software I will (and thsts getting harder and harder these days). The fact that xtool supports lightburn is a big winner in my books. Now that i know about this laser im stuck between getting the omtech and this one now.
    The curved surface feature is super interesting! I have a 100w laser at work that my boss lets me use after hours and it can do curved surfaces but not this easily! For my laser at work, I need to have some more experience with CNC that I do not have to do curves.
    I look forward to see what you come up with on the laser!

      If you improve your skill with writing G-code, then you can perform curved surface machining (3D contouring) on any machine tools (including lasers) capable of linear motion in three axes simultaneously. Of course, it is a lot of work to manually code complex contouring operations.

    Laser cutting and engraving changed my life..... I mean not massively, but you know, a bit. But that bit is really good. I have a very cheap and dodgy K40 that needed a LOT of fixing and make-good when it arrived so I'm keeping track of what the current offering is when it inevitably dies, and this looks good. Good price point, good range of base functions and it doesn't sound locked in (it can use lightburn..) so yeah, could be interesting..

      @@CaptainQueue No I don't mind at all. It doesn't earn money for me, it along with 3d and resin printer, soldering iron stuff etc is all what I use making things, currently I'm upgrading my digital desk calendar from a 7 colour e-paper screen for calendar and lcd screen for time to also house a thermal printer for shopping lists, todo notes and stuff. One thing you need to know about CO2 laser cutters is the tube is the most expensive part and it's essentially a consumable, they have a lifespan.. Do the research on how long they last and factor that into your pricing for commercial work.

    That’s got a lot of features for the price. The curved surface feature is neat but that pass-through conveyor really opens up possibilities. For many small businesses and hobbyists this would be a great plug-and-play machine.

I am recently retired and looking for a side gig that is creative, different and modestly profitable. This purchase would be a huge financial decision for me, but I am open to future potential and will work my a55 off to succeed.

      I started an Etsy business only 5 weeks ago for some part time income and with only 8 products in my store, I made 600€ profit within the first 20 days of July. That is selling in Germany alone, which is a tiny Etsy market compared to the US market. So it is definitely possible to get some traction with it. I am only using the D1 pro 10W yet, but I am eyeing the P2 already, as it is vastly superior in speed compared to my machine. The D1 will have to pay for it though :D

      Lasers are expensive. It's competetive to Glowforge in pricing and there's been some people coming forward about Glowforge's terrible customer service when their product breaks. It's all out of my price range but there is definitely a market for it at its price watching this video

    • @WobyDesign
      @WobyDesign  Před 10 měsíci +7

      Sure it’s expensive, but do you know how much glow forge is? Also, don’t speak for other people. If you don’t think you don’t need it, don’t buy it. But don’t group everyone else into your situation. Some people are willing to buy these lasers because they understand the value it would bring to their shops.

How is it that most youtuber commenters are so narcissistic that they think "this video doesn't apply to me. therefore this video doesn't apply to anyone".

      @@WobyDesignJudging from your comment I expect a Glowforge is even more expensive then.
      But hey: for those who can afford it: very nice machines and I am happy for them, I do not begrudge anyone, to be clear about that.
      But out of curiousity: maybe you could do a poll? See if the majority has 4600 laying around to spend on a laser?
      Btw, I do see the value of such a machine has, and I understand how one can add it to ones arsenal of tools. Used properly it will even earn itself back over time. But my point remains that 4600 is quite a hefty amount to spend on one tool.
