Tom Glynn-Carney (actor Aegon)was so good at this episode, he got all the attention
Team Black but I have been fascinated by Aegon since last season when his mom emotionally abused him.
I found this channel thanks to the episode 1 of season 2, both your and your wife's empathy (altho your wife's feels so much stronger) and reaction to the sad moments of the show makes us feel the episode so much more. Super reaction, guys, keep it up.
i do appreciate your wife saying "without trust you cannot do anything" because at the end of the day with daemon going to harrenhal it was still part of the war plans anyway so he is still sticking to play and fighting for her but then comes the question even after all that he will do for her defense will she come to trust him again? because its his impulsiveness that gets him in trouble the most but his loyalty is still to one house his family. right now i think this is where he thrives at his best which is being on the ground or in the air on his dragon getting stuff done and he has been wanting to leave for harrenhal since S1 finale
rhaenyra didn't say a son for a son, she specifcally said she wanted aemond, not any random son. that's the only line she had in the first episode. that's daemon making his own rogue choices. daemon does feel slighted and there's anger b/c viserys didn't keep him as his heir. at the end of the day, daemon hates the hightowers, always has, and he is loyal to his family, especially now that he has kids to protect. if people couldn't stand criston cole before, you really can't stand him now. otto did scheme and manipulate to place his family in position of power from the beginning, it wasn't just for him. the team black twin (erryk) is the one that won and apologizes to rhaenyra before killing himself, similar assassination plot w/the twins happen in the book too. the budget for the series definitely went up for s2 and is likely to continue until the end of the series. the cinematography alone looks 10 times amazing compared to s1.
I think because "a son for a son" is such an epic title/quote, it felt like daemon said it. Love the complexity of the characters and story. And yes I thought the show was visually beautiful in season 1 but season 2 is blowing it out big time.
people need to stop exaggerating about the blood and cheese event in the book. i actually think it was worse in the show. there was a bunch of melodrama in the book and jaehaerys actually had a swift death in the book b/c they used a sword and there was one swipe, a quick death. the show indicated it was not a quick death as we heard the ongoing sound of them committing the act. regardless, the outcome was the same.
this obsession people have w/things not going down exactly as in the book really need to get over it. they seem to forget that events are actually told from unreliable narrators who may have been in the background to see something or either weren't there to witness these situations happen and it's a he said, she said, they said gossip and assumptions. the outcomes may still be the same (as shown in the show), but how they happen is not 100% accurate in the book.
the show has actually expanded on the characters and given them layers b/c i found the majority of characters during the dance of dragons cold and unlikeable. it's hard to make a series about characters that you don't like and try to get an audience invested and care about them. i'm glad the show has skipped some parts of assumed and speculated storylines cause it makes no sense in the context of the show and tbh, it wastes time. i don't see house of the dragon going beyond 4 seasons if it keeps the focus on the main conflicts.
