What a cross over! When it first came out, Disney AND Squaresoft? And it all happened because of a literal elevator pitch. Now it's been some time so I'm re-completing the game in the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix PS4 version. This means some added collectibles, PS4 trophies, and updated audio and visuals. And after all this time, I can't believe I get to say Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming out!! I've completed so many of these games, and at times they seem endless. But it's time to start at the beginning, to the game that started it all and created lifelong fans.

Truefax. I'm replaying KH2 right now, and I'm putting off Atlantica for AS LONG AS FEASIBLY POSSIBLE, and planning to skip all the cutscenes. I'm trying to 100% the game so I HAVE to do it, but... ugh, it's like tearing off a bandaid.
I don't think it's that bad to be honest. The trip to Atlantica in KH2 on the other hand is awful...but at least it's quick.
Actually KH1 Atlantica is enjoyable. KH2s "Finny fun" is not for me however.

@@tdogjc8253 the thing that makes kh a bit more wild is that its ff and disney having s crossover, rather than just ninteno characters plus some 3rd party. Sephiroth and winnie the pooh coexisting in the same universe is a lot to wrap ones head around.

I understand it's pretty crazy but if you think about is ssbu is way more diverse than say Winnie the Poo and sepharoth. Even though that's insane, think about ganondorf and duckhunt, villager and ryu, Wii fit and joker, Bowser and Sans! While it's still crazy, ssbu brings a lot more crazy

Theres definitly a lot more franchises involved from more companies, yea, but seeing hades summon auron ffx from the dead to kill hercules is absolutely mental. For the record, most of the KH games aren't really that convoluted. Yes, they're dense and complicated, but if you're paying just a BIT of attention, everything does get explained in time. The only exception, I'll admit, is Dream Drop Distance, which DOES get to the point of being legit confusing. I still only have about an 85% idea of what the villain's plan actually is. Frickin' time travel.
This is my situation exactly. I love the series and I thought I understood all of it.... and then Dream Drop came out. It basically took everything I thought I knew about Kingdom Hearts and flipped it on its head.
They are all convoluted except for the first game and the fact that they all pointlessly build on one another and constantly recon the story makes it even more convoluted. They just aren’t well written
Most of the explanation of the game happens in a phone game so I mean if you don’t play union X you basically have zero clue on anything happening in kh4 and miss most of what happens during kh3. Miss some plot points in kh2 and 1.
Kingdom Hearts was my childhood, my teenage years and adulthood. It is a game that has literally been there for each part of my life

KH1 is way, way harder to go back to if your entry into the series was KH2, the quality of life improvements 2 has are SO good. It's a real Mass Effect 1 to Mass Effect 2 sort of conversion. So I guess you really have to love it.

KH1 to me will always be my favourite 2 is great but not everyone agrees but it's ok lol
Ross Fitzpatrick oh don't get me wrong 2 has awful pacing compared to 1. Also there's not much purpose in each Disney world only like a few really matter. But just the gameplay mechanics of 2 compared to 1 greatly makes up for the pacing imo.
I will say this: despite how complex the story got and the different game elements added and discarded, Kingdom Hearts will forever be my favorite video game series of all time. Even for a kid growing up in the Spectrum, I was engaged with everything going on due to my love with Disney, and I related to Sora’s journey to find his friends, as well as the others that showed up later on.
I was excited to see you recomplete this, and it fills me with joy that you love it as much as I do based on your words. I can’t wait to see the New Game Plus episode on KH2FM, and maybe you should suggest that to Beard Bros!
P.S. A Mary Poppins world would be pretty neat to even just explore. I think there’s potential there!

My childhood has been Nee Game Plus-ed. I remember playing this on the PS2 as a kid and it was amazing and I’d like to see if it actually holds up.
Same. To this day, the Kingdom Hearts series as a whole never disappoints me. Not to say it’s not a completely flawless franchise though.
Yeah, and I still got my copies of KH1 and 2 to the PS2 but I got the KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX just because of KH3 is coming out and that I am missing some games in the series since I didn't have the money to afford every game when I was a kid. Super happy to be able to play games that I never got to play as a kid now that I am a grown up!

@@TheRezro I have played a part of BBS but because of my save file keeps getting corrupted on my PSP I got tired of starting it over again all the time and the battery on my PSP is not the best since I have to keep on charging it. I got my PSP second hand so it was old when I got it.
So when I finally fund out that they had released KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX for the PS4 I saved up money for the game and got my PS4 by selling my bike.
The biggest reason I didn't have the money for the game when it came out and the PS4 was that at the time I was saving money for a trip to Japan that I did last year in May 2018!
I so want to go to Japan again so Tales of Vesperia define edition that was released 11 January this year and KH3 will probably be the only games I will be getting this year since I need to save money again if I want to do another trip to Japan.
Not being rich make it not easy to be a gamer but saving your money and then finally being able to afford what you want then the reward is totally worth it!
@@ElizabethBathog Ok.. I only say that fact that Xion and Axel (Days), Merluxia and Replicu (Chains) and Terra, Aqua, Vanitas and half of the relevant plot (BBS) would be important for KH3. Plus circumstances of Back Cover, alongside the fact that person inhering No Name has origin in BBS.

Watching this while working on my own platnum playthrough of the original game. (I'm not doing it for bragging rights I'm doing it for my own emotional attachment to the series)

He loves the original 2 games (he passed away in 2010)
I finally had the chance to beat the original 2 and finish the rest of the series myself last year and this year and I had so much fun experiencing it. Also it made me feel closer to him.
Going for this platnum on the original (and maybe KH2) feels like I'm honoring a series we both enjoyed at some point. It feels like a labor of love for the series despite me questioning my sanity a bit with the secret bosses and the ultima wepon grinding
Still one of my favorite childhood games to this very day and looking forward for Kingdom Hearts 3! ^^
This, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Paper Mario are in my top 3. And yes, the hype for KH3 is UNREAL.
I LIKED ATLANTICA, yeah underwater combat was a bit janky, BUT I STILL HAD AN OVER ALL FUN TIME UNDER THE SEA!!!

Jirard, I love ya buddy but Emblem Heartless are hearts consumed by darkness, while Pureblood Heartless are formed from the natural darkness ocurring in the world. #andnowyouknow

Honestly, you can argue that Kingdom Hearts isn’t a Disney X Final Fantasy crossover anymore. It’s turned into it’s own entity with all of its original lore and stories after all.
Yes, especially after 3D, where we have "The World Ends with You" stuff.
I think kingdom hearts 3 is gonna follow the movies a bit more by the looks of the trailer of Tangled and Frozen worlds looks like they taken more and more scenes from the movies which I love :D

Man I remember when KH1 came out, when I learned the premise I was like “Disney characters, Disney worlds... nah I’ll pass”. About 6 months after it came out a friend convinced me to give it a try, it immediately became one of my favorite games and then series. I don’t know why but this series has remained in my top 5 and I’ve loved every game. Especially BBS, I LOVED that game. I remember misplacing my PSP and losing my mind cause I was going on vacation, I said screw it and bought a new one and happily started from scratch in BBS.....
It’s also the only game(s) besides FFX where I’ve rebought for both the PS3 and PS4 when the collections were released. Yes I happily handed over my money for the same game on a newer system even though I still have my PS3. I just wanted to support it.
I played Kingdom Hearts for the first time on december 26th. It is now January 23rd and I have beat every Kingdom Hearts available on PS4. This series is awesome and I can't wait for the 29th!
I had thought of Mary Poppins as being a great idea for a mini game world, but the idea of chimney sweep heartless convinced me that it should be a full world.

One of my favorite memories of last year was watching your speedrun of this game for the time and unchanging armor trophies. I watched from beginning almost to the end. What a great game!
5:48 those choices are actually very important depending on your playstyle. It makes you learn certain abilities later or earlier on, it changes your stats, item slots etc. If you want the guard ability as early as possible pick the shield.

@linkin We should expect the HD remixes to be ported to the XBox in the future though. Considering how much they matter to understanding KH3, it’s inevitable to happen one day. Nomura even said so himself that he would consider porting KH3 to the Nintendo Switch once it’s already out on the planned systems. The same could be said for HD remixes getting ported to Xbox as well as the Switch.
I'm replaying kingdom hearts 1, but this time its final mix and I can say I'm having a blast playing it again.
I'm proud to say I completed the original Kingdom Hearts back in '02! The Final Mix version was not available in the US for some time after that, so I didn't get to fight Hooded Figure Xemnas. But all four of the other secret bosses I managed to take down one at a time. I'll never forget being so shocked at seeing Sephiroth and dying from a single sword slash. 100% completion got me the secret ending. I don't know how many times I went back to beat Ansem just so I could watch and pick apart that teaser. Ah, the pre-CZcams days.
I loved traveling around the map and not knowing what world or cast of characters would show up next. In contrast, all of KH3's worlds ended up revealed in trailers, so there was no longer any surprise when you actually got to play the game.
I think the game that best captured the wonder of the original was Birth by Sleep. I've enjoyed most of the games (didn't like Dream Drop Distance all that much), but nothing has captured the wonder and excitement of the original. Lightning in a bottle.

This was the same friend that got me to try FFX back in the day which started my journey into and love of the FF series, I learned to trust his suggestions lol.

I have been excited for this episode to come out, this series is still by far one of my favorite things to come out of the PS2 era and I eagerly wait for next Monday to wait in line to get 3

@@salmonbelmont7758 It is compilation pact containing KH3D, 0.2 Fragmentary Passage and Back Cover (Union X cinematic). Alongside 2.5 both contain games taking place between KH2 and KH3 (excluding prequels, what still should be viewed after KH2 though).

I love the kh series so much. I remember I was in 7th grade when 1 came out and have loved them since. Completed 1.5 and 2.5 last year. I did the speed, no death, and no equipment change together in a single run to cut down on time and playthroughs. Great video as always thank you

Man, oh man. If you think Mary Poppins would be good, may I point you in the direction of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, its lesser-known cousin?
The Isle of Naboombu would be pretty good, it’s done the same way as Mary Poppins’ animated world, Ms. Price could actually kick someone’s behind and it would be great for avoiding stuff like fighting Nazis with sentient suits of armor and jokes about an unexploded bomb in someone’s yard during the Blitz. If anyone is wondering, yes, this is a Disney movie. No, I’m not joking.

Dude. I beat this game for the first time three days ago. I don't have time to complete it yet. I had only played all of the Nintendo games in the series and had such a blast finally seeing where this all started. After I've had adequate time with number 3, I am planning on completing every single game in the series and I can't wait

IN COMPLETIONIST WE TRUST
Kingdom Hearts has become a special series to me. At first, I was one of the skeptics. I read about the game and saw pictures and didn’t get it. Mixing Final Fantasy and Disney? What could they be thinking?! But the more I looked into it and the closer the first game’s release came, I became hyped at the idea. I love the characters and story, be it weird and nonsensical at times. And this is also a game my brother and I played together and bonded over. We can still chat about the original and all our times playing it for hours. I’m getting all nostalgic over here, going to have to replay these games again in the near future.
Also, while we’re talking live action movies for Sora to interact with, how about Bedknobs and Broomsticks? It has magical elements, unique locations, and I think we may top the strange-ometer having Sora, Donald and Goofy taking on nazis. :P
The secret ending to KH2 blew my mind. My 5 year old son, at the time, ended up completing the game (yes, he actually beat Sepiroth before me - he's a prodigy at video games like his old man), and has been begging me for KH3 ever since. He keeps counting the days and I can't wait to surprise him with it.

Comparing that setup to any other FF game really does address how accurately established the motivations and goals fit the RPG motif.
I actually had a college confuse the heck out of our boss by saying his favourite FF game was tge one with Mickey Mouse. When our boss realised he was talking about Kingdom Hearts, he completely agreed. THAT speaks volumes imo.
Kingdom Hearts have accompany me since 2002 when i 1st played it with a PS2. And now I still played with it with PS4 together with my kids 😊
They HAVE to have a Brave world in Kingdom Hearts some day, and I'd love to see Star Wars in the future.
12:08 At least it's only 30 blueprints in the PS4 version were as the Ps3 version of KHFM required you to get all of the Gummi Blueprints! UGH! I'd seriously rather re complete Clash in the Clouds.
Was wondering if someone would point this out. As a completion condition it certainly makes a big difference.. That was rough beating I think it was hollow bastion to traverse town without taking a single hit.. And there were giant walls of blocks that you needed a customised gummi ship just to fit passed (and had to develop some wonky collision detection 'evasion' skills)..
I remember some tricky ones where you couldn't shoot and had to get a score of 0 or the one where ya basically had to destroy every object to get the score high enough.
And something abuot a course that gets interrupted by montro even when attempting the mission challenge.. ugh XD
I kind of don't mind that it's not a requirement on PS4 but perhaps I'm a little bit bitter and slightly resent gummis after my PS3 playthrough. haha

What a perfect way to celebrate the series. I've gotten into the series from your old Birth by Sleep review, and I haven't looked back since. I thank you for that spark, and I thank everyone at Square who has worked on the games for all their work. Here's to Kingdom Hearts 3!
Also Mary Poppins for KH3 is amazing. If they go to the new one it'd be amazing for Sora and, if made somehow possible, Lin Manuel Miranda were in the same game. I'd be so giddy.
I got the original Kingdom Hearts for my 13th birthday, shortly after it came out. What a great experience to go on this adventure as an early adolescent. It was so easy identifying with the characters. There's some quality about the first game that didn't quite translate to the later games. Absolutely one of my favorite games on PS2.
I"m still mad at KH3 for not including any FF characters or worlds.
Would have been worth the wait alot more if the Secret Bosses weren't strictly OCs the third time around

Here's the thing: most people HAVEN'T played them all, and most people, while they might enjoy KH, aren't rabid enough fans that they consume literally every piece of media associated with it.
I remember back when KH2 first came out. I enjoyed the first game and looked forward to 2. When I first started it up, I was completely lost, and wondered what the hell happened in between. It was only then that I discovered the existence of Chain of Memories, a game I had never heard of at the time and virtually no one actually played.
Only after a deep dive into a KH wiki did I more or less understand what on earth was going on.
This confusion, btw, was from missing a single game. Now imagine what it's like when someone misses 358/2, Birth by Sleep, Re:Coded, Dream Drop Distance, etc. Most normal folk aren't going to invest their time, energy, and money into these games, and stick to the main numbered titles.
Hence the confusion.

My favorite is BBS. Re:CoM... Is just boring and endlessly repetitive for me. I would rather watch the cutscenes (they were gorgeous) than replaying it.
Now, I know a lot of KH fans disliked the game because of the card system and I totally understand that, but once you understand the system and has the heart for card games (see what I did there?), then the game can be fun. Especially when the story is getting you hooked. I also feel even more satisfied in every boss battles I win. I have to admit, I died a lot, but that's because I didn't make a good enough card combination around my playthrough.
Once I beat the game, I just fell asleep...
@@saxor96 I think if the entire game played the way rikus half did, it would be a much better game, soras play through requires a ton of investment in minmaxing your deck and card management, and basically setting up macros on a controller as it is (with the shortcuts) its incredibly rewarding if you get that in to it, but if you just want to play, rikus story integrates the card dynamic in a much more palatable way in my opinion

I played all of the games and the story aren't that hard to follow, but if they just go from KH1 to KH2 to KH3, they will only be left with confusion.

I have never played Kingdom hearts and I bought thus exact final mix collection and I was debating on going for that platinum trophy...after watching this video I've decided that, yes, I will be going for that platinum. Thank you sir

Kingdom Hearts is a great series. Playing on critical has the best combat in any RPG I've ever played. All of the games are good in their own way.

I was surprised on doing my second 100% playthrough of all these games. On PS4 they changed the trophy to only need 20 bluebrints, not all of them. I was so happy.
