All the bugs introduced is just lack of testing / lack of a "release only when ready" attitude though, maybe that could be because of higher ups tbf, to coincide with the fallout show.

Skyrim to this day suffers too much from its cut content, poorly written stories and quests that break too easily - As well as its poor perk system which locks you into builds too hard, which was ironic because the class system was scrapped to avoid locking us into builds.

Its all copy-pasted layouts, boring maps, and shallow features. Modders NEED a good baseline to start from in order to make it good, Starfield just doesn't have it. It's also a big gamble because you are toying with people's memories and things they hold dear to them. So if a company fumbles a remake or remaster, they get crucified. You succeed and make the game even better, while being able to stand on its own? You get a resounding success. Think Dead Space Remake, RE2 & RE4 Remakes, Destroy All Humans. It takes something already incredible and dials it up to 11. It becomes the definitive way to play the game. I know we would all love to see our old favorites remade. With physics tied to FPS where even a locked 60 fps feels weird, I just couldn't play it. Ironically, that was when reports of a next Gen update started coming out. I thought, "sweet, I'll just wait for that. Surely they understand PC players will expect more than 30 fps for a game that's 8 years old" cut to now, the game is nearly 9 years old and you're pretty much stuck at 30 fps if you want the game to function normally. After Starfield's release I shouldn't be surprised since Bethesda thinks HD textures equates to next gen instead of a seamless immersive experience that requires one loading screen... Starfield doesn't have good energy for an RPG, there is no sense of urgency or importance to anything, it also just looks bland overall and feels boring. I played it with very neutral feelings for Bethesda, I've never been an Elder Scrolls or Fallout fan, so I had no big expectations. It just bored me to death when playing it, I played probably 30-40 hours trying to figure out how deep the story and mechanics go, but quickly realised how shallow everything is, so that combined with the bad optimizations and how lackluster the graphics looked on my computer, I dropped it eventually. Went back to Cyberpunk 2077 and was mesmerised just how much better the game is, how much better the gameplay and graphics is, but most importantly - there is a specific feeling that great games with great immersion give you and Cyberpunk has that sprinkled like stardust all over the whole journey. Starfield is so incredibly bland by comparison.

    When it comes to Starfield, I got 3 major problems: Quests, Writing and Immersion. Taking aside the main quest line and UC Vanguard, New Atlantis is full of uninteresting quests. Get a coffee, flip on some switches, pick up some sensors, escort an NPC to his home and so on. Not really engaging. With the writing it really bothers me that everyone talks to me like we are best friends and that every NPC tries their best not to offend me. Very distracting. I rather have Emil Pagliarulo in Fallout 4 selling me a useless charge card and calling me a r3tard. And immersion, well, Bethesda usually is very good at world building you can get immersed in but with Starfield it always feels like once you start getting immersed into the world, you suddenly get dragged into 2020 the video game. That was a constant thing, switching from Toddfield to 2020field, very distracting since I never experienced something like that in a Bethesda game. I did play the game once and want to replay it but every time I try, I get confronted with these 3 problems and drop it to play Fallout 3, NV and pre-update Fallout 4. I'm still a Todd fanboy but I doubt I'll bother with Shattered Space. I guess I'll see what reviews say. Not a good sign when you are losing your fanboys, Todd.

Don't particularly want to suspect Bethesda of "conspiracy" with a mainline hosting site against modders but given the tiny window of when all that stuff went down, it is what it is. @@princessamygamingThe engine isn’t inherently the problem, after all, most engines are just newer versions of old engines.
      The problem is that Bethesda refuses to put the time and money into it that it so desperately needs. Unreal 4, for example, is effectively a different engine than, say, Unreal 2. Meanwhile, Creation Engine “2” shares an uncomfortable amount of dna with Gamebryo, let alone older versions of the Creation Engine.
      So imo they shouldn’t scrap it, but actually spend resources overhauling it. The benefits the Creation Engine brings are worth keeping it around I think.
      Edit: To be clear they’re not dragging their feet on improving it because they’re lazy or something. Unreal gets so massively overhauled because Epic quite literally makes money selling it, so spending money improving it makes sense - it’s a primary source of income for them. Creation Engine, on the other hand, isn’t Bethesda’s product. They don’t make money by selling it to other studios. So for them it’s much more of a balance between dedicating resources to the engine, and to their next game.

    Bethesda should drop Starfield, look seriously at everything wrong with it (shallowness, meaningless choices in most quests, bland dialogue and lore, lifeless and one-dimensional followers/npcs) and improve on everything for the next Elder Scrolls. They seriously need to upgrade their writing staff too. Gamers today dont want a watered down RPG like in the late 00s and early 2010s that plays well on console. We want real lore and more intricate quest lines, meaningful choices and good, exotic writing.

    The problem with Starfield for me is not lack of content. The things I don't like about the game are pretty much here to stay because they're engine based issues or Bethesda based issues. They can add expansions and content, but the game will still feel outdated, and I doubt the writing or voice acting will get much better. It's hard for me to get engrossed in Starfield because there are too many things that are immersion breaking. Starfield is not a game where I look at the clock and am like, "Whoa, where did the last 4 hours go?" I never have that moment where I'm desperate to find out what happens next. I played it, got all the way to the final main quest, and then did an 83 hour playthrough of Cyberpunk after the Phantom Liberty release. Then, I started another Cyberpunk playthrough. Mid way through that playthrough I was like, "I guess I should probably finish Starfield." So, I did. Coming directly from Cyberpunk back to Starfield actually made my impression of the game way worse. I was literally playing the last main quest trying to figure how I managed to make it this far into it. I think the only reason I did was because I hadn't been playing anything else recently and there wasn't anything else I was interested in playing when Starfield came out. Bethesda was smart to release it before Phantom Liberty. If they would have repressed it after, I think things would have gone way worse for them.

    In starfield i'm seeing proof that for whatever reason BGS is outsourcing some things. I suspected this when seeing easy fix bugs and Large bugs being ignored not by choice but because finding the outsourced Dev long after you've let them move on could be hard when they are from a foreign country which now leaves you a position of scrolling through 100s - 1000s of lines of code you've never seen before looking for what's wrong. HUGE Time Sink! The proof of this for me came when they released the "blank" ship Habs and there were Floaters leftover in the habs they overlooked when removing some interiors. If you had built the original Habs you would have the blanks already in stock from before the original interiors were added which would have been 10000 times easier/faster to port in. Not going to mention the middle finger from devs who had to remove the interiors but left Walls/doors that are no different than any other interior item. They never planned on us wanting blanks or interiors. Outsourced Devs would have deleted hab assets years ago after moving on. IMHO

    • @monody
      @monody Před 13 dny +3

      Some things? Starfield's credits includes ~4000 and Bethesda Studios itself only is ~400 people, the vast majority of the credits are studios and people they outsourced work to, including for components of the engine update.
      EDIT: For example, the GI renderer in Starfield is from a company called Enlighten.
      Aside from that, what you describe is more so the problem that Bethesda itself is not a technically strong studio, and they have lost a ton of institutional knowledge regarding their own engine over the last couple decades. The guys that wrote their Radiant AI, the ones that developed the SDK and Papyrus scripting language for the engine, gone. The devs that laid the groundwork for the 3D titles simply don't work there any more, and it's proven to be a much bigger struggle for Bethesda to keep pushing old tech they barely have a handle on.
