Surely there has to be an alternative solution to this, the PL teams just want less games in the calendar whereas the lower league clubs want the potential revenue that replays could provide. In that case we should be looking towards finding a different way to financially compensate the lower league clubs here without having to have a replay, that way both sides get what they want. You could have home teams determined based on what league the teams are in, have replays only voided when two PL teams play each other, etc

That’s all well and good for one possible pay day .. but it virtually guarantees the lower teams that they are going out in that round .. the replay system gives them at least two paydays and if the replay is at home, there is always the possibility of an upset and another payday ..
but what I think is most disgusting from the premiership teams , is they are complaining about to many games ? Top professionals earning millions to live the dream of millions of us !
They also have huge squads and as Ferguson always did in the league cup, play the players not getting regular football in the premiership, they will be glad of a game and it rests your first 11 ..
It’s another example of the elites getting there way once again .. Money is everything now unfortunately

@@joshuaday-ou1qv I disagree, I think that if a lower league team are drawing at full time, they have a better chance of winning if the game goes to pens, rather than if they have to play a another 90, where the bigger team will have gotten a kick up the arse, so I think that there more likely of an upset without replays.

A possible solution… Instead of replays then … why doesn’t the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th round proper be played over 2-legs then? So instead of the dates set aside for replays, this should be set aside for the 2nd leg matches with no away goals. In that way the lower league clubs will be guaranteed a massive pay day. But at the 5th round then games must be settled on the day (ET and pens).

There was a solution. All the national leagues in Europe should have told UEFA to shove their never ending expansion of the UCL and their other competitions up their a**! Unfortunately, it is simply money/financial greed as always. Funny how the 'big' clubs aren't complaining about fixture congestion within the context of the Champions League. 64 more matches overall, teams playing 8 times in the group stage rather than 6. People are overstating the money for lower level clubs. Merse was making out like FA cup replays are some clubs only source of revenue.
    A few things to remember:
    - Lower level clubs now have a better opportunity of progressing further in the cup. Instead of having to put in another unlikely good performance against a top team in the event of a draw, they can now go through via a penalty shootout which is effectively a 50/50 chance. Then, they progress to another round and receive funds from the next cup game too.
    - All of the talk surrounding this is about the top teams not wanting to play too many games and pick up injuries. Actually, this decision is more of a benefit to the EFL and lower clubs as they will have far weaker squads and play more league matches in a season than prem teams.
    - Why would you want one of your top players to get injured and possibly muck up your league season with potential promotion to a higher league with better consistent sponsorship and tv revenue and prize money for the sake of a fourth round replay at the Etihad where you’re going to lose anyway?
    - More often than not matches are settled in 90 minutes without the need for a replay anyway (especially in the case of the David vs Goliath ties). Teams are playing to win the games not draw them…
I get it. I understand why people are questioning the decision and raising concerns but there has been a massive overreaction to this change and actually it’s really not all bad.

I've noticed for years that it's not just premier league teams putting out the reserve team,it's also lower league teams who are challenging for promotion or trying to avoid the relegation zone.
2 million pound to the team that wins seriously.
If it wants to be taken seriously, it needs to offer more.

Those proposed FA Cup changes in brief:
    1. No replays.
    2. 2024/25 competition to start with quarter finals, scrapping all the earlier rounds. The 8 clubs involved wil be the top 8 from this seasons' final PL table.
    3. The 8 clubs will feature their reserve teams (so, no real change there).
    4. 2025/26 FA Cup will consist of just the final (no earlier rounds). The two clubs competing will be the two with the biggest bank balances. (This usually happens anyway).
5.2026/27 FA Cup will scrap all rounds, including the final. The trophy will be awarded to the club with the biggest bank balance at the start of the season.
    6. 2027 to the forseeable future:
    see number 5.
    The advantages being listed include:
Less travel for all fans, especially those with no chance of winning the FA Cup.
A lot less matches for the star players of the top clubs, especially those awkward trips to small clubs with their cramped facilities and muddy pitches.
The outcome will be the same, without all the fuss and bother of playing the matches, so fixture congestion will be alleviated (allowing more time for all those pointless European trophies).
    Hope that clarifies things.

Replays are not the thing that makes the FA cup, if they draw and ONLY if they draw, they get a replay, it’s not a given

@richardandrews5972 i agree with what you say with one exception. I agree they certainly have the money to have more players but it becomes very difficult to manage massive squads and get the tactical plan set, which then makes it very hard for managers. Another issue is these big competitions bring more money so teams play mostly their best 11 so the best players are overused. In contrast the fa cup has games against easier teams which gives the chance for players to rest and for youngsters to get gametime. Corporate heads are just seeing that uefa and fifa will bring them more money and dont think about heritage or their own players....they just want to milk as much money as possible. So if they had to choose between fa cup and expansions of uefa and fifa competitions, they choose the latter.

If the top clubs want less fixtures, exempt yourself from the EFL Cup. And cut the Prem to 18 teams, in line with the Bundesliga. The FA Cup has been trashed enough. Time to leave it, as it is.

Can I ask what team you follow? I support Hereford United, or Hereford FC we are now. Every year we dream of getting a big team and maybe getting a reply. It’s about the day out. Seeing your team against one of the big boys. Going to the likes of Old Trafford or any Prem or ex Prem ground. I might just be because I follow a smaller club but yeah. Awful that FA has changed it, in my opinion

If a smaller team gets a draw against a bigger team, then the FA should compensate them 100k for loss of earnings European football is now too over complicated, keep replays, but,if you're IN Europe, then you're OUT of the 2 domestic cups !

It's like telling McDonalds they have to have a few days a year where they send their profits to the small independent chipper down the road, to help the 'pyramid'.

Outwith your precious EPL , all clubs are struggling for cash . And as Ive said thousands of times , Rangers and Celtic are bigger than 90% of clubs in your country . Weird how Swansea and Cardiff get in but Rangers and Celtic dont . There is a reason for that - Rangers and Celtic are brands worldwise and are bigger than 12-14 teams in your precious EPL . This is hilarious though. Irony isnt something english people do .
