    Another good one. Thanks, skipper! And thank God for Dramamine, eh?
    Hope things are well for you in Ukraine and that you'll find a new "ride" to captain soon.

    Can the shipping company back at head office tell you you must speed up or is it totally up to the captain how they handle the weather and what speed they go?? Thank you.

      Thank you for the question. There are specific company procedures for sailing under heavy weather conditions. However captain has the overriding authority to deviate from any procedure if he considers that such deviation will be in best interest for ship's safety. Common rule is to reduce the speed when vessel experiences heavy opposite swell to avoid damage. Only captain decides what is the safe speed for any specific sailing conditions. Company is not authorised to assign the vessel's speed during the bad weather conditions.

    Is there an ideal angle to ride the waves, or is it guess work?

    • @S.Kostan_1970
      @S.Kostan_1970  Před rokem +1

      There shall be an optimal angle where vessel avoids being seriously hit by the waves and heavy rolling. Also ship’s speed must be adjusted (reduced)
