- Another dramatization of the Jeffery Dahmer story hits Netflix. But this 10 episode series might give a little more than expected. Here's my review of DAHMER - MONSTER: THE JEFFERY DAHMER STORY!

The Tony Hughes episode was so powerful I forgot what show I was watching. When Tony sees Dahmer from across the club, my heart sank. They did a phenomenal job.

Yes great episode. My heart sank from the actual beginning of that episode where he was walking with Dahmer and started sign language. I was like oh no, don't go there Dahmer.
It was the episode where I actually started to curse out dahmer more so than ever. I knew he's evil but I did not want to see tony die.
I didn’t know what happened to him in real life when watching it and was thinking “please, let him be one that managed to get away” - then the heart sinks at the reality. It really brought home what the loss must’ve been to his family (and to all the victims’ families). Every victim was someone with a mother, father, siblings, friends who loved them.
I absolutely love how Jeremy states you don’t need gore to make this a horror series. I completely agree they mastered that for us as an audience.

@@SL0409 They do that a lot. A lot of white people seem to become incredible detective when it relates to black characters. Have you ever seen biopics surrounding black historic figures? They mostly make up the white characters to serve as avatars for white audiences because they want to seem like they influenced or were a part of the historic change. If you call out this then call out Last King of Scotland.
The thing that I think stands out most about this mini series is that before it, we all knew who Jeffrey Dahmer was, but afterwards you remember names such as Tony Hughes, Ron Flowers, Steven Hicks, etc. just as much as you’d remember Dahmers. The victims are usually over shadowed, and I’m happy to say that this time wasn’t the same.
And this dude actually has fans. Smh. White privilege is being arrested multiple times, released, continuing to get second chances and having the cops take your side over the concerned callers and then being immortalized.

The point of this series exactly. Director or what it`s called refused to make a first point of view from Dahmer and to glorify him (which lost people do) less. Many people who wathces this are dumb, so dumb people need to know that this was real and to be educated about empathy. Alas, empathy is not as cool as to go on a killing spree. Humans, fuck em` :)

@@Wildflower687 dahmer is dead. He can’t kill anyone anymore. The only ones that are still victimized by him are the people that have to live with knowing their loved ones are taken by him. Are you not able to fathom that victims of a serial killer could be damaged by seeing a show about that serial killer trending when they just turn on Netflix? I imagine it’s even harder to heal when there are hundreds adaptations of that story. Even if the show had to be about jd, they couldn’t bother to consult the victims families first? Look, I’m not even demonizing the people who just watch the series. But I think it’s appalling how many people are dismissing the trauma of the actual families in order to defend it. Aren’t a lot of y’all trying to praise this show for making it about the victims and their families? But when it comes to the actual families opinions, it’s not about how they feel? I also think Richard Jenkins should be considered for an award. He did a phenomenal job playing the father.

When he found out about his performance in college i was weak. It reminded me a little of Step Brothers
What episode 6 showed me is that that Dahmer shattered the hopes and dreams of 17 people and 17 families. And in my opinion that single episode truly defined Dahmer for the monster that he truly was.
Agreed. Every one of the victims, I’m sure had hopes and dreams. This monster took away any chance of that without remorse or hesitation. Forever rest in peace to all the victims and I hope that anyone directly or indirectly impacted by these series of horrific events is doing great in life ❤️
Except he was a monster, he was in a symbolic sense but in a literal sense, he’s one of us, just unusual. He like did it because of a mix of genetic and environmental factors.

Watched the entire show in one sitting through midnight. Tony Hughes was definitely one of the most tragic. He was so full of hope and you could see in his eyes the euphoria in having finally found a good friend in Jeffrey. Rest In Peace Tony

I found the side of the story of his dad living with guilt if he created the monster really heartbreaking especially when he never gave up on him and tried to understand him.

This tv show has been critically panned by anyone above the age of 18, the real life victims are literally taking a stand against it because of how disgusting and exploitative it is. Episode 6 made me cry. He was trying to be great and his mama crying thinking of her last conversation with him just took it out of me.
Fr most of the episodes I was skipping thru it a lot but once I saw episode 6 I forgot Jeffrey was a serial killer

The Tony Hughes episode was definitely a highlight for me. I thought to myself as I was watching it, “If I was just watching this episode in isolation and had no idea of the wider context, this would be such a charming story.” It made me desperately hope this was someone else who got away from Dahmer which made his demise all the more tragic when it finally happened.

What's insane is that they never actually showed one murder....it was pure atmosphere. What a show, and to focus on the victims, the family and the wider social issues was perfect. 10/10

Also his second murder was depicted accurately. He did not remember what happened in hotel room due to heavy intoxication. He just woke up next to body beaten to pulp - like in the show.
10/10.. this is a cinematic masterpiece that will go down in history as one of the greatest ever… absolute perfection.

Crazy how well the show was even able to adapt John Wayne Gacys story momentarily to Jeffrey's story and it didn't feel like too much. It was done perfectly.
I hope it’s a foreshadowing that they’ll do series like this, but due Gacy.

That was the most scariest scene in my opinion. That or when he eats Tony, that scene may have not been the traditional kind of scary but I felt so uncomfortable watching it I had to keep reminding myself that it wasn’t real.
@@rileyl7129 that's the thing now though isn't it ? Most scary movies now are too predicable. This was great because yes it's made as horror but it's more uncomfortable horror instead of the same old try hard jump scares. Everyone knows the story of Jeffrey is horrific but you can make it horrific without being gory and scary. It was really uncomfortable and gave you many views from Jeff's, to the polices, to the neighbor, and the victims families point of view which is actually good and different. Hopefully more movies/ documentaries can be done this way.
Yeah but I actually find the Gacy moments a lot scarier and they felt straight up out of an horror movie with the clown outfit. If they'll adapt a Jon Wayne Gacy series it'd be a lot more brutal because unlike Jeff, John liked to physically torment his victims (as seen in the last episode) so I think It'd be a lot more horror.

Konerak and Tony's deaths broke me. I spent hours googling all the victims and here I am on CZcams still watching videos. I put myself in the shoes of the victims and the family, how horrifying it feels to know that your life is ending without you seeing your loved ones or seeing someone you love then never seeing them alive again! May their souls continue resting in peace.

Exactly! The awareness the shows brought to the victims was really unprecedented. After watching this, people actually cared about the victims and wanted to remember them. Sadly, the mainstream media doesn’t agree.
All the victims were tragic but the kids and the deaf guy were especially innocent and defenseless. The incompetent cops taking the victim back to killer's home and then brushing off inquiries was very disturbing. The scene where the cops call the immigrant victims home to mock them and rub salt in their wounds was very upsetting. Not sure if that ever happened though.
I already knew about all the victims before i started watching. Konerak's face just kept coming into my mind. Poor kid. Bless his soul 😔. Not only a sick murderer got him but the law of the land also completely failed him and all the victims.

Is it though? The victims' families have been very clear that they are constantly re-traumatized by all of these retellings and portrayals of their loved ones being brutally murdered. Hasnt stopped these studios from trying to cash in and you people just eat it up...

@@valmacclinchy I'm here because I follow Jeremy and wanted to see if he would speak on what I said. I have not and do not intend to watch this movie nor any similar attempts to capitalize off real atrocities committed against brown and black people tbh.
I think what the new series did so well for me (as someone who was already familiar with the case) was underscore the selfishness and insecurity that ultimately lies at the heart of Dahmer’s crimes. Something that’s repeated a lot in the show is Dahmer saying “Don’t go.” or “Don’t leave” when his victims want to go or get uncomfortable. There’s even musical scores that have phrases like “Please don’t go.” scattered throughout. He was so scared of people abandoning him that he couldn’t let anybody go. He wanted to “own” them so he wouldn’t be lonely anymore. It’s really a tragic motivation for murder (although, of course it doesn’t justify his horrific crimes at all).
If you only knew how many people were that lonely. Our society is broken

The Tony Hughes episode was heartbreaking. That’s what “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” did differently than a lot of serial killer shows, normally victims are just numbers but here they were people with hopes and dreams.
Yeah only in a TV show with 10 episodes could they have the runtime to look into the victims backstories. But that was chilling. The opening episode was amazing too.
I almost fell off my chair when I saw Richard Jenkins as Dahmer’s father. He should be in the award conversation for best supporting actor. He KILLED IT.
Definitely his best work in years.
When it comes to violence, sex, etc. I think most directors don’t comprehend how not showing it can be more impactful than being completely explicit

Growing up in Milwaukee, hearing people talk about Dahmer was surreal, he became a Candyman of sorts. Not that we played childish games to summon him (we didn’t), but his evil and malice was almost deified.
See that's a problem though, it almost makes his level of evil unobtainable, which is false.

Any of you growing up in Milwaukee old enough to have memories as the story came out? Did you visit the apartment building befóre they torn it down?
@@Experternas People kept coming to take photos and pose in front of the building. It was torn down and is just a fenced in vacant lot. City has not done anything with the land. Likely will sit un used for many decades to come. Until this fades from most peoples' memory. The show was not filmed here. None of the buildings in the episodes match the real ones.

You can find the filming locations on imdb, besides, the tenement building is torn down so they couldn't film there anyways. the childhoon home is the real deal tho, when you see him pulling up to the driveway. that's the actual childhood home. Used the same one in My Friend Dahmer.

The acting on the show was one of the best acting I've seen in a show this sensitive in a very long time, the casting directors did a phenomenal job
Even Peter's portrayal is one of the most chilling. He'll get an Emmy nomination at least. But all the cast was great. Richard Jenkins of course but rest of the supporting cast did a great job.

The first episode made me the most nauseuous. I used to live on a farm and I knew what decaying flesh smelt like. Once it hits your nose you can't get it out. When I was watching Dahmer, I felt horrible for the neighbor who could smell rotten flesh and hear what was going on. If the police just listened to her, they could have stopped Jeffery from killing anymore people

Glenda wasn't his neighbour, she lived across the street in a different building so she wasnt hearing or smelling anything from dahmers apartment 🙄
His neighbour was Pamela bass who said she liked and got on well with dahmer and never suspected anything and was in his apartment numerous times
Glenda never saw the 14 yr old boy either. The whole scene with her arguing with police not to let the boy go back to the apartment was bollocks also
Her niece and daughter phoned the police when they found him bleeding and naked
Later that night they told Glenda and she phoned police to check on the boy. That's the ONLY time she called the police regarding dahmer

@@SL0409 Well, when Pamela was helping Jeff clean his apartment to stop him from getting evicted, she did mention about the smell, and he said it was because the fish water is bad, and he also blamed it on the refrigerator breaking and the meat went bad, that's possibly the only time Jeff was kind of confronted about what was going on, by a neighbour.

@@LilyRose8959 The boy wasn't nearly arrested, but the cops did allow Jeff to take him back, under the pretense of the boy being Jeff's ADULT boyfriend who was drunk. Those cops were also suspended for their negligence.
I also liked how it showed the devastation of Jeff's father... of him finding out about his son. You don't usually think of the heartbreak of the family. Usually we only think of the victims family.
Well, the way his father dissected animals is the same way Jeff killed his victims. All along his father didn’t know he was giving his son ideas. He made a monster.

I've never had a show make me feel the way this show does. I have to watch one episode a day. I can't watch too much of it because it makes me feel weird and kind of sticks with me all day. This show is a masterpiece.

I’m so happy to see Niecey Nash get such a well deserved time in the spotlight and finally the praise as an actress she deserves. I’m glad Ryan Murphy saw such potential in her so many years* back when he did his first show, Popular, giving her a chance in the industry and continued to cast her in so many of his episodes and projects, even when much of Hollywood refused to see her potential. I hope she sweeps in the awards season, but even if she doesn’t this performance is such a knockout. Such an outstanding performance! Go Niecey!!
It was nice to see her doing drama instead of comedy for a change. Don't get me wrong she's great in comedy, I've loved her since Reno 911 but this was a great performance.
I have to say Richard Jenkins has another outstanding performance, he made me feel really emotional in his scenes, everyone’s acting was definitely top tier

He seemed like an extremely genuine father. we all know that dad if it’s not our own dad. tries his best but he’s not a perfect dad in the least, but so relatable
Evan Peters for me, for years has just been outstanding. He delivered a performance that sticks to you. You feel it covering you and making you feel awkward and alone sliding down your spine. During episode 6 i was thinking just love. Just love and this might stop. That is when i noticed the blue bucket in the corner. I had to turn it off sometimes. Everything was done too well.
The John Wayne Gacy scene was absolutely terrifying. So terrifying that I now want to see the same director, writers and crew do a similar miniseries with Gacy.

Evan Peters will pick up an Oscar for this performance, this show is one of the most sickening and scary I've ever watched on Netflix. And what makes if worse is all these sick killings actually happened. And worse still is the numpty Police who had multiple opportunities to get this psycho killer very early on. But sadly the Police don't care about gay, black minority groups. In a way these are crimes as bad as what Dahmer did.
Agree about police focus. In many serial killer cases, minorities and poorer people always get screwed over.

Im only on the second episode but i feel the timeline sucks. Especially for people that dont know the case. Jumping around so far seems completely unnecessary. There may be a reason but so far im really not as excited as everyone else over the series

I thought this series was gonna be campy or just the same stuff we’ve seen, but it was srsly amazing. Evan was incredible as Jeffery and really made him feel complex rather than a bland evil villain. And the impact to the families and community as well as police incompetence were very eye-opening.
Everything about this story was tragic and very well done.

That is not to say he should be sympathized with, but to dismiss him as being something other than human denies us the ability to learn from what happened.

One of the most haunting series I’ve ever watched. I am usely not scared of any horrormovies or true crime story’s, but this portrayal? Just something else. It has gotten into my head, during night AND daytime. Even lying next to my sleeping boyfriend became a scary thing for me to do. Because it reminded me of the things i’ve seen in that show. I remember not wanting to touch him because his arm was really cold. I am wondering all the time: how could this happen without anyone seeing it for such a long time? Devistating example of failed systems. The law and justice system AND mental health systems that could have helped Dahmer at a young age. Tragic.. :(

The part when he drank that blood he stole from the doctor's office was one of the more messed up things I've ever watched. It's a scary series indeed and I don't scare easily.
Very disturbing. Also the cops incompetence and racial bias and phone call harassment of the immigrant family was upsetting. Not sure if this ever happened.
The Tony Hughes episode is one of the most heartbreaking pieces of media I have ever seen. My wife and I were both just a wreck.
I lived and worked in Milwaukee when Dahmer was at large. I had just graduated high school and my summer job was downtown. I could smell the chocolate factory where Dahmer worked. I saw the live broadcast on the news when they were pulling the infamous blue barrel out of his apartment. I was in the weight room at a downtown gym listening to two Milwaukee city cops discuss what happened the night that one victim was returned to Dahmer and I got a chance to talk to them to see what I was missing that wasn't covered in the news broadcasts that were highlighting police failures in the investigation. This Netflix series hits all the right tones and captures the horror of the events as they happened. I'm thankful for Evan Peters' performance and Ryan Murphy's creative hand in this project. They handled it with respect.
I loved how they integrated one of his victims (deaf kid) so well bringing his story to light and his family connection. I believe this is one of the best series Netflix has ever made but I’m not sure how much rewatch ability this will have for me
I totally agree. It was incredibly well acted, written, sensitive to the victims... But I'm going to need about 10 years before I rewatch.

That was heartbreaking. Tony’s story almost brought me to tears, he seemed like such a sweet soul who actually could have shown Jeffery real love. 😢

It was honestly infuriating watching those police officers completely neglect the situation despite being told multiple times AND THE FACT THEY NEVER GOT FULLY PUNISHED it was such a massive injustice. It's a side to the story I never knew about before so I appreciate this series taking that angle as well as learning more about the victims and families involved. To think this actually happened is unbelievable and heartbreaking, my heart goes out to the victims and the families :(
This actually is pretty common within true crime. The police tend to be incompetent. Aside from Dahmer the two other big examples are Ted Bundy where he was "too handsome" to commit these crimes and law enforcement took forever to find him. And John Wayne Gacey who also had victims try to get away or tell the police, and he indeed did get caught, but just got a slap on the wrist each time
@@Spongebrain97 so many young men and women were murdered by those two monsters because of stupid fucking police, same with the zodiac as the sketch himself was running from the crime scene, no one picked up on it because they were lookin for a black man.
Except that it didn't actually happen. Most of the stuff involving the police is totally made up. The only incident in which the police were negligent was when they allowed Jeff to take a teenage boy back to his apartment, under the pretense that he was Jeff's adult boyfriend and was drunk. That was 100% negligent on their part and a child died because of it. These cops were also suspended for their negligence.
You can't believe everything you see on the internet.
You know I like to believe cops hold themselves to a higher standard so not sure how truthful this show is but what is clear is back in those days there was racism. Cops didn't give much care for blacks so was sloppy in their work or just incompetent. But that's disturbing is they were both given an award for outstanding service and then after you see them calling the dead boy's family mocking the dad telling him he's a lousy immigrant and go home. That is a clear breach of police conduct and ethics.
Just finished the final episode. Probably the best show ever made that is a real life crime story. and probably the most disturbing how i've seen in years. The one killing in paticular that caries through to the end, that one sticks with you. probably the best show to help you really connect with the murder victims and their families

I’m in a minority of people who actually only knew of Jeffrey Dahmer as a serial killer, but never knew who his victims were nor how he desecrated the bodies. I didn’t even see the trailer for the show but saw a tweet of one of the victims’ family members shouting in court and said “oh let me check this out!”
Going into this blind, being my first time diving into anything for the story of his victims - I was crying. I was so disturbed. The first episode gave me goosebumps so hard when he said “because I’m going to eat it” I literally covered my mouth. I was so disgusted.
As an Evan Peters fan, I didn’t even see him in this portrayal because I just felt so repulsed by Dahmer that there wasn’t a sense of Peters to him at all. Niecy Nash deserves ALL of the awards. ALL of them, because wow.
Definitely a show I am glad I took the time to watch, and definitely one that I can’t bear to see again because of how hurt I am for the victims. I am glad this was my first and only depiction of the Dahmer because it was really not glorifying him at all.

I wouldn't say you're in the minority at all. Most ppl under 30 have no idea about the specifics of his crimes. Unless they're true crime fanatics.

Evan Peters singlehandedly reinvented CREEPY. What a performance. He was great in American Horror Story, but this is on another level.
Your point about the families is so on point and encapsulates our world now. The world is horrified by the event until the next scandal comes across the screen, but the families who are affected forever are forgotten. We lose sight that their lives have been changed forever! Excellent commentary!
This series was incredible. Incredibly sad, but directed/acted incredibly. That dude should win an award. I could rewatch it, it was that good.

Evan Peters as JD was expected to do the damn thing but Niecy Nash as Glenda was amazing! Richard Jenkins as his father also was great! Shit all three deserve an award for acting performance hands down!
This was a 20 pert series and it took me 4 days to watch… it was intense and I had to take breaks watching this!
Ryan Murphy has another masterpiece on his hand and also the entire crew on this project A+ to everyone y’all did a heck of a job!
I know I finished it in a week , I would had finished sooner but I needed breaks . Although they don’t show us what he did to the victims , you can just imagine it and it is horrifying.

i started watching last night and im still shocked by the quality of this series, the cinematography will blow your head the way they did the long takes is just a piece of art, and the acting is just so intense and real that feels like your watching a documentary with high quality footages, this series diserves as many emmy awards as possible !!!

Glendas story caught me the most. Being next to him and calling for help for months. I can’t imagine the stress, paranoia and anxiety a person must feel
I felt the same... That poor woman... I can only imagine how horrific it must have been trying to get people to pay attention and being treated like a crazy person. I really hope she got counselling and was able to recover from the trauma of living next to that guy.
Glenda Cleveland did not live in the Oxford Apartment building. She also never met Jeffrey Dahmer. Her daughters found Konerak Sinthasomphone and she called the police following up on him. That was all. Everything else was made up by Netflix. No sandwich. No noise complaints.
And as far as the police go, no they fucked up big time. He was a convicted child sex offender and they didn't even look into it. They also never made racist phone calls to the victims family
But Glenda Cleveland did not live in his building. People say, "how could they not listen to her?" Well, she called asking about Konerak, but she didn't say anything about Dahmer because she never even knew him.
Dahmer's neighbors liked him. If you ask me, that's a better story than what Netflix made up. They made Cleveland's depiction to create an antagonist and to stir the pot.
In reality her character didn't exist. His neighbors liked him and were all surprised by the things he did.
Fun fact, the women in the show wasn't actually his neighbor. Her daughter was. She didn't even live in the building

A while back Opie and Anthony (when it still existed) did an interview with the detective who caught Dahmer and got the confession out of him. I highly recommend it. He takes you through the whole night, and also gives some interesting insight into Dahmer himself, and about the failures of law enforcement up to that point. One of the best interviews I’ve ever heard.

They did a phenomenal job on the show. One of the better cinematic experiences in a while
this is by far my favorite Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy project to date ! The performances were top notch and Evan Peters performance was uncanny. Beautifully shot , edited, and scored . And the fact that we spend a lot of time with the victims and see how this tragedy was effecting them was a major plus. And i agree episode 6 elevated the show to a whole other level. During the scene where Dahmer (Evans) and as giving his testimony and went to youtube to hear the actual testimony side by side. I swear to you it was uncanny they sounded the exact same. Give Evan Peters his Emmy now

I was definitely hurt the most by Tony . They really brought it to life considering Tony was unable to tell his side. Also loveee the emphasis of “ y’all did nothing “ delivered niecey Nash. Bravo ! And def felt the hurt of the sister who cut up on Jeff in court . Sheesh the emotion .
I'm right there with you, it really stuck with me. I cried so much and really appreciated how they went into who the victims were and their families and the insane amount of injustice. Brilliant and heartbreaking.

What makes me infuriated about this story, is one of his victims, could have been saved. If the police had actually listened. But no they just ignored the women and laughed along with Dahmer and I just....even after so many years that same police department was like "oh we're gonna celebrate the retirement of these WONDERFUL cops" and people were NOT having it. It reminds me of the Petito case; if the cops had actually just LISTENED to her, you know the scared out of her mind victim she might still be alive today. The police also completely ignored literal descriptions of the Zodiac killer and had a run in with him without even knowing it. It just never changes.

W/ Dahmer ya can’t really look at it through the lens of todays sensitivities. Many serial killers focused on societies “lessers” bc it wouldn’t draw as much serious attention. Prostitutes, minorities, and homosexuals, at a time were all a class of ppl that society in general didnt care as much for. So homosexuals going missing weren’t nearly as widely reported. Then gay relationships back then were often looked at as something that should be left alone by ppl in society, including officers. Today all the signs would be looked at differently, but back then was a completely different time
And believe it or not stuff like that still happens and will continue to happen. Idk if we need to “defund” the police, but at least need to shift funding around within the police departments to focus more on training and hiring competent and honorable people.

This mini series was a none stop watch for me, watched the entire series in one setting. Very heartbreaking to learn some facts that I didn’t even know about this case. Happy to see how they acknowledge the importance of the victims and their families, not just the victimizer. Excellent job!
This is like The Chernoyble of serial killer series. A really well done, dark, uncomfortable to watch, powerful show based on real events. Really enjoyed it!
The recent series Blackbird did the same thing - dedicating an episode to one of the killer’s victims. It was very powerful because you saw this real person with her family and friends, knowing that she was going to be raped and murdered at fifteen years old. It made you really think about her parents, her sister, her friends, her teachers. The victim becomes more than a name or pictures in a crime file. They become real. They EXISTED and they should be remembered, not the people who took their lives.

This is such a good series and I haven’t been able to say this about an Netflix series in years!!!! I feel like they need to do one next on LA’s Night Stalker, Richard Ramirez. I remember that story growing up as a kid in California and used to be so scared.
It really did affect so many lives and this series really brought that to light. 17 people and their friends and families had to and are still being affected by this one man and his actions.
Evan Peters needs to be nominated for an Emmy. He was chilling.
He won an Emmy for Mare of Easttown. He’s an incredible actor, I’ve loved him since the first season of American Horror Story and it’s great to see him finally get the recognition he deserves.
The documentary about Dahmer that's coming out on Netflix on October 7 is the one I'm really hyped for. It's from the same person who made the Ted Bundy Tapes and John Wayne Gacy Tapes which I absolutely loved.

The Tony episode, when Dahmer was struggling to use the hammer, I was like pleading Dahmer not to do it but you know he will, it was unreal feeling!
episode six was so tragic and so genius and i honestly think i will never forget it. it was incredibly well made with how they portrayed his deafness with the audio etc. and how it was all from his perspective, but also, how it was so perfectly in the middle of the series. we got to know dahmer, his life up until that point, saw the horrible things he did and then suddenly - an entire episode from a victims perspective. suddenly making the audience see THAT side. setting it all up so our hearts all collectively SINK as soon as tony sees jeffrey looking at him from the bar. like the audience is just silently begging him not to speak to him, but we all know he does. its so painful and real to watch. then they talk and it takes an unexpected turn, pretending to give you some kind of hope when really you know its just sadness and tragedy. until the end just hits you like a truck again. and its perfect the way this episode was epsiode six, not episode one or two. we got enough from dahmers point of view to the point where that episode comes almost unexpected and makes it so incredibly chilling and tragic. because thats what it all was. all of it. it was all tragic. and the way they portrayed tonys situation made you realize that just once more. that episode was brilliant, i will never forget it. like i know i will randomly sit somewhere months from now and think about that episode and about tony. it was so fucking sad. so well made. rest in peace tony.
I totally agree about episode 6. That episode should win an Emmy. The actor that played Tony is actually deaf and went to Gallaudet University here in Washington D.C.

The most aggravating thing for me out of the whole docu-series is the fact out of all the shit that man did with no remorse, this man had fans, getting letters and money from people. Having comic books made of this dude. Like wtf
he did it without remorse because in his own sick way he loved them and just didn't want them to leave. He didn't hate any of his victims and he said in his interview that he actually loved all of them but couldn't let them go which his terrible. Im not condoning what he did im just shedding more to this story

The things he's done, are objectively bad, horrifying and utterly terrible, but to him, it made perfect sense, he believed that he had a reason to do this, and he allowed himself to continue his wrongdoings.

I studied his case recently for college. I was shocked about how well they chose the actors and places to portray the real victims. I know that he killed many more people that we get to know in the show, and tbh I'd rather have their stories told instead of the chapters dedicate to Dahmer's past. However I do understand the need of context for the show, to get to know his past enough to understand what's happening. Watching this after hours of research for that study I had to do, knowing what happened, and knowing that what I'm seeing is somewhat accurate to what happened to those people... I mean... The detail of him in jail reading those letters from "fans", and knowing that right now there are people on the internet simping for him just because Evan Peters played him... I don't know. I just find this show very, truly interesting, and after watching it having no one to talk about it I now search for reviews like yours to finally get to a conclusion about what I feel about this movie
I remember the day that they caught Dahmer. It was horrifying to hear the crimes he committed. So far I'm in the 5th episode of the show and I think it's really well done.

Yes I remember the day he was caught. I was watching the nightly news in Los Angeles when they announced it. I remember thinking here we go again after having experienced the Night Stalker Richard Ramirez the serial killer literally in my old town of Whittier.

First time i had nightmares in a long time. It digusted me and made me cry. A true masterpiece. I never knew the whole story about Dahmer, now I cant stop thinking about it.
Enjoying this seems an inappropriate description but I appreciated this very much. It felt like you were almost there and it was just as terrifying when the victim’s end were not shown but implied. Including those who orbited Dharma’s world such as the neighbours. The futility of him every hoping to change what he was.
This was a hard and intense watch.
I feel like if this series was a film that was just about a fictional serial killer and Evan Peters of course portrayed this so phenomenally I cannot stress enough, I bet you he would win an Oscar or an Emmy or a Golden Globes or something like that for his performance (cause obvs they don't give an award for something like a docu-series). Hands down one of the best acting that I've seen so far next to all the award-winning and critically-acclaimed films this year. WELL DONE EVAN! I seriously hope I see him more in movies in the future⚘
This isn't a docu series. A lot of the events are made-up and Glenda is a pure invention of the show.
I literally just watched the show and finished just now XD. I will say the show was very tense and episode 6 with tony made me almost cry. He was such a precious wholesome soul and I was like okay maybe he will be another person to live. That was not the case and it broke me when his mom said he hasn’t come home. The one true scene that scared me was when he was with the 14 year old and I swear his eyes were a brighter color making him look like a monster. Now when I see the poster of his face I get a little freaked out.

As someone who has heard the details of the Jeffery Dahmer case a thousand times, what really struck me in this retelling, was how awful his parents were. They completely failed Jeff (and his victims) in every way imaginable. Sometimes even while he crying out for help from them. They astoundingly managed to ignore every single red flag and in turn allowed their own son to sink into a world of isolation and horror. They took an already disturbed child, further damaged him with their selfishness, and then released him on the public.
The scene where he tried to tell his dad about his compulsive urges early on but his dad changed the subject cos he was uncomfortable was infuriating.
I hope that was just something they added to the show, I don’t know if Jeffery ever disclosed that happened irl. But either way, normal parents should have been more attentive and open with supporting their child who expressed “weird” behaviour
I also felt that his father was his biggest enabler. He spoiled him too much and forgave him quickly whenever he was caught doing something wrong. Most of what Dahmer did continued because he never really faced much consequences from a young age.
@@stonecake313 yes that scene was hard to watch. Also the scene where his mom just straight up abandoned a 17 year old Jeff for 3 months was particularly heartbreaking. So much of this could have been prevented if either one of them cared more.

God it reminds me of Laundrie's parents who just enabled LITERALLY enabled their son to go off into the god damn FL wilderness and off himself vs facing justice cause they couldn't just.....I don't get it. Part of me does, you don't want to admit your precious baby could be a monster but any normal parent should hopefully want justice for the families who lost their own kids. Ugh.
@@allisonnicole. His mom didn't abandoned him and Jeffrey was 18. The mom asked if Jeffrey wanted to come but he declined. I can't believe people are still using this shit excuse and narrative that because this 18 year old guy was left in this big house all alone was the cause of what he did.

I'm not spoiling anything, but episodes 7, 8, and 9 made me emotional. I have read many things on the case, but this series makes you want to think about the systems that failed the victims. If you haven't seen it check it out.
I had that same feeling with those same episodes…then the opening of Episode 10….dude that’s a thing of nightmares!!!
This show was so haunting. One thing it highlighted so well was how men can become victimized just like women. Where you see all the guys have a bad feeling at some point but push past it, and go along like many women have. Maybe he’s joking, or awkward or we’re going the wrong way etc. It’s shows how predators will convince you that everything is fine, come with me.
I don't like labelling these people monsters. They're people who do monstrous things. Dahmer's life was so tragic on a psychological level and I really admired his dad. What infuriated me was the police not properly investigating the injured young lad and then took him back, wtf!?
The people who played Daumer, his dad and the neighbor did amazing!
What blew my mind the most in this series. It felt completely realistic like you were right there witnessing the real events of horror! The actors who played the father and the next-door neighbor felt like real people to me. 🤯

The Walking Dead did the silent thing with Connie and it worked so damn well. Glad to see it’s being picked up in other shows. Silenced was definitely a stand out episode. I had to pause it to look at the name so I’d remember it, it was that good!
Just got done watching, it played with my emotions the whole way. From his parents, to him killing these people, to the victims families, to the police and not wanting to take blame. It was very well paced and is hard to step away from it.
This is why I come to Jeremy's channel. Not only had I not heard about this show but even if I had I would have had zero intention to watch it. But, now, hearing from him that it takes this new approach, focusing on the victims. This is the sort of revolutionary shakeup that more true crime media needs to learn from! And knowing that Jeremy was really moved by this show gets me very excited to watch it. Thanks Jeremy. And thanks to all the people who made the show in the first place. Good work everybody!
Evans Peters acting in this was amazing!! Episode one was intense.. definitely loved ep 6… not only because it was creative but because u saw dahmer struggle for once.. and it created an anticipation of what would make him cross the line
Neicy was great.. but Evan Peters did a great job conveying his loneliness and abandonment issues.. how he walked and sat down closer to his victims.. how he talked.. his social awkwardness.. all i kept thinking was what toll is this taking on his mental state
When he made her the sandwich 🥪 trying to make her eat it was very intense,because you feel his evil presence. This show shed light on the Victims who were people with names.
i agree, pretty much 100%. I binged it straight, and I didn't sleep well. 6 was also the episode that changed the way i saw the series and mentioned to my partner that the moments that could have been splatterfests in a different production were handled well. I kept thinking of the concept of "gaze" in film. This felt like it lacked the "gore gaze" and i appreciated it as a viewer because you don't need to see it to know its barbarous and to feel the weight of what he did. The whole Gacy/Eclipse segment was really thought provoking in regards to the nature of evil and the self-delusions of a personal morality that can be harbored even by monsters.
Both Richard Jenkins and Evan will win awards for this as it’s the best telling of the story,I have an interest in this topic,dark as it is and collect films and books and documentaries so I know what I’m talking about,Outstanding show!!🏴❤️
Never felt like I needed a shower after watching any piece of media, until I watched the first episode of this.
Cried a few times during it, especially with Tony's mother reading his piece about "... put a tear on the windowsill"... Broke me.
Apparently netflix did not ask for the victim's families' consent or approval for depicting them in the series. I believe the show was very well done and like you said, It seemed to be done with respect to the victims and their families, but unfortunately a lot of these people had no idea about this show until it came out. I think that in itself is very disrespectful and exploitative.
Evan Peter's is very under rated as an actor. He's fantastic in every season of AHS he's in, even if the season isn't that great. He always brings it. I would love to see him play Kurt Cobain in a bio pic.

When he wasn't in a season I didn't watch it. He reminds me of Leonardo Dicaprio both amazing actors young or older. When they act you believe it. Evans says he had to take time off of AHS because going into the crazy psychi of seriel killers or evil characters drains him mentally and physically. He said it takes alot out of him especially when he does it season after season. I have no doubt his acting was top notch in this.

for real I felt like I could smell it through the TV the way she was describing it.. I thought it was respectful to the victims and very well put together. I hope Evan Peter's took a long break after filming this . actors sometimes become so emotionally involved with the characters they play.
Haven’t seen it yet, but I’ve seen those NBC shows glorifying the killers and making the killers feel like “the hero’s” of the movie. I appreciate that Jeremy says this didn’t cross that line, the trailer looked good too so im sold on checking it out.
