I became the owner of a boat (shipwreck) in Amsterdam this year so I'm qualified to tell you what that experience is like. That's what this video is about. In this video I talk about some of the rules for owning a boat in Amsterdam. What motor should you buy and where can you park your boat? What is the boat culture in Amsterdam like? I also show you how to get a boat in Amsterdam by restoring an old boat that had been floating around the canals for years. Instead of buying a boat on marktplaats, some work needed to be done. For the boat, we bought an electric motor from Epropulsion. In 2025, the municipality of Amsterdam wants to ban all petrol and diesel engines so depending on how strictly they will reinforce this, you will have to get an electric motor later on anyway. Ultimately we are very happy about having a boat in Amsterdam. If you're considering taking a boat ride in Amsterdam, I'd recommend not taking a big touring boat but renting a somewhat smaller open boat. Driving through the canals with a boat is awesome but calling it the best experience in the world might be a little bit of an overstatement?
