    25:55 The country hat, plain white shirt and medium size wristwatch, the goofy chin smile and yellowish teeth from smoking. This man is literally a snapshot from the late 70s american studio workers himself, what an outlook! Only thing missing is like a pocket chain going to his shirt pocket ahaha
    26:40 It's feels so weird to see city hunter being brought up, because have seen like... 2 people at most throughout my decade long internet history, who even recognized the series... ad here it is just appearing in a fan convene like it's nothing lol. Just, funny things how different content has a long term impact on different cultures.

      With City Hunter I guess it might partially be because of the live action movie which apparently did really well here among general audiences too. Though the fact they even thought to make a movie prolly speaks to taht long term cultural impact of that content too XD

    Blue archive remains as tops on rankings since the game keeps creating more cute and funny scenario of what artists that they can do about it.
    The amout of kayoko dress fan art and kasuza video series benefits for its rise of doijinshi itself.
    Unlike hoyoverse that they cant increase their popularity on doujinshi side since merch are everywhere already on the market and cant bring waifu factor about it for doujinshi (doesnt matter the push of caefly on star rail or the fanservice aspect of zzz).

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 19 dny +3

      Yea the game definitely does create a lot of characters and scenarios that help make it easier to draw fan art and make content around it in a way.
      I've heard from some of the people into the hoyoverse side of stuff too and the biggest compaint from fan artists on that side is that sometimes the chars or costumes are just too complicated or just don't fit as well with the type of content and so it makes it harder for them to make it too so what you're saying is kinda a factor it does feel like.

    I agree, the Yamaguchi coat man's B/W photograph does look cool.

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 26 dny

      Yea that B/W photo was quite an interesting one since it used that very old wet plate style photo-taking yet somehow ended up looking quite modern. Though yea with people committing actual crimes at the event it's something I really dislike since it goes against the very trust based way that the event operates (Most of the staff at the event are also volunteers so everyone there is operating in a very large measure on the trust that no one will do anything that messes up the event for everyone else)
      So when it comes to stuff like that I feel like it really ought to not be tolerated.

    • @stephenbanyar1874
      @stephenbanyar1874 Před 26 dny +1

      B/W photography really does make whatever you're photographing look timeless, within reason. If the Yamaguchi man was wearing a surgical mask, he'd look like he was stuck in the year 2020. Very cool indeed.
      Yeah, the country is rather trust based too, isn't it? Anyways, I respect that you have the guts to say what you believe, unlike a number of western CZcamsrs who don't. Heck, letting these sorts of criminals get off the hook without consequence is one of the reasons why Britain is so unsafe now.
      I'm speaking from experience when I say that for the safety of Japan's future, it's important that the country be very careful with who it lets in, otherwise, there aren't just going to be gropers, but also gang rapists and little girl stabbers.
      Apologies for the negativity, Mr Salaryman. I'm glad that you seem to have had a pleasant time at Comiket in spite of the hot temperature and everything.

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 26 dny +1

      @@stephenbanyar1874 Yea there's just something with the way the style of photography works that makes it hold up so well XD
      But yea the country is quite trust based even though corporate culture is so full of distrust it's kinda funny the balance that exists. That said when it comes to especially the countryside areas some of the trains are completely honourbased where no one mans the gantryless station and they expect you pay for the ticket anyway which kinda helps with reducing redundant jobs in a way it feels like.
      Japan is pretty strict with the people who get let in on a work visa at least with how long the process takes and how difficult it is to get citizenship but with tourists it certainly does feel a lot harder... I recall during the Olympics there were quite a few cases of people talking about increase in crime and shady sorts being around but it does feel like those come and go at least. Especially recently with what happened with that one Johnny Somali fella.
      That said, no need to apologise about negativity, that should be my job for having to bring it up during a video about a con in the first place XD
      But yea, heat aside it certainly was a fun experience still

    Three-peat originally came from basketball in the US, for when a single team won three championships in a row. The guy who coined it thought it was SO cool that he registered it for a trademark and has made millions on merch. Personally, I like the term hat-trick instead; a term in hockey when a single player scores three goals in a row in one game. And I looked all that up on wikipedia so don't ask me anything else about it cuz I won't know.
    Also I'd love to see all the crap you picked up, although I'm not sure how entertaining anyone else would find it. I love looking at other people's por- I mean other people's special interest books...

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 26 dny +3

      I'd say that older shows seem to do a better job of representing it if anything. That said, there are some parts of Comiket particularly pre-pandemic that just aren't well represented in anime simply because of the illegality of parts of it like the overnight queue for instance. That said, I'd say Genshiken does it pretty well as does Lucky Star in a different way.
      With Lucky Star it feels like it just does a single throwaway episode showing how different the event can look to an outsider/first-timer compared to a veteran but in terms of a close view of the event I'd say nothing quite comes close to Genshiken as most animes typically show a more glamorized version of it like in Kobayashi
