My mom told me to watch my language, than went home and told my dad that I "used the c-word". My dad, who is not quite as sheltered as my mom, took that a whole different way, and the two of us had a very awkward conversation before things got straightened out. Yeah, I was pretty sheltered.

@@viamendes1621 same for the phone thing. My older brother and I shared a flip phone for years, simply because we had to have a way to contact our parents when i was babysitting, or we were helping out with something, all that fun stuff. I then had my own flip phone until i was 15, when the literal only reason that i was allowed to get one was because i had lost my phone and our phone service was no longer allowing new flip phones, so we couldn't transfer my number to a new flip phone. Since i was babysitting almost every day at the time, i definitely needed a phone

If they had an older brother, not allowed at there house, but friends could always sleep over at our house, even if my teenage brother was there. If the opposite sex was sleeping over, we were all banned from the main floor all night, no matter what. Want a drink of water? Sorry. Want to watch their movie with them? Face punishment. I never found that fair. Trust me mom. Nothing is going to happen with me and my kid brother's friends.
But, now I'm an adult, my parents habe slightly changed those rules for my siblings and become slightly more relaxed. But that's how I remember it growing up.

Worse, they never taught me basic things like how to cook, how to use the washing machine and dry clothes, how to pay the bills, etc.
I am now 24. I'm beyond useless compared to everyone else my age (or even younger), horribly depressed, just quit my job because of constant panic attacks and I have no hope for the future.

I didn't think I was THAT sheltered, but I got 21 points...I grew up in a reformed christian (like catholic, but not as strict) household. My brother and I were homeschooled up until 6th and 8th grades, respectively, and we didn't even have a TV. Funny thing was, since we were homeschooled, we were fairly independant. My dad worked most days and my mom would fall asleep for the most of the morning after breakfast (she had an undiagnosed sleeping disorder for several years during my childhood) so my brother and I would do some online school on our family computer and then play outside and do whatever we wanted. (within reason) We weren't allowed to go off the property (but we did anyways) and often climbed on the walls and gates surrounding the apartment complex.
Now we live in rural Oregon and my brother, little sister, and I all go to public school. We attend a baptist church and I somehow convinced my parents to let me have a boyfriend. Oh, how the tables have turned.
