Why are people so mad about the length of this video?
If you need to know how to refuel a Zippo youre likely new to the zippo world, so the extra tips and knowledge is appreciated if you ask me

LOL That little hole is to fill it. Just squirt it in till it drips...you're done. Now if you want an REAL tip. Lighter fluid is naptha. Nothing more. Go to any hardware store in the paint section and buy 1 gallon of VMP naptha. you now have a life time supply for 1/4 of the cost. Just refill your lighter fluid can. Zippo fluid is $66 per gallon. Naptha is about $17 per gallon.
And it has a ton of other uses. Great spot remover, removes stickers from glass, and so on.

      @Mike1614b Před 5 lety

that's correct. I have a Ronson Lighter Fluid package from the 90s. It says it's NAPTHA right on the package. Zippo now owns Ronson.

The little hole in the felt is an aid in lifting the felt. If you can't grab the felt, insert a straightened paper clip in the hole, and bend. Voila!

Well, I never would of guessed...a video on filling your lighter, nice. Whet you said about the 'hole' in the felt pad is right. It is used to put the nozzle in slightly so to control the spray from going all over. You fill until you see the pad get moist, not soaked...all in one squirt or so. When this happens, by stopping the filling, the fluid will saturate the 'filler' through out and will prevent leaking, spilling, etc. I've been doing this for a long time and was shown this by my grandfather who had done it a long time...well over 100yrs. total so I have faith in this method.

+LMO MechTech Great idea and saves loosing those flints under the felt pad. With dry hands, dropping lighters is common for me and have found if I wrap the bottom with plastic wrap it rarely occurs, so those pesky flints have less chance hiding now. All the best.

Using the lighter case as a screwdriver can bend or damage the finish, if any, on the case. If a screwdriver isn't available, a dime works well.

So yeah, once again, cheers.

I know it takes like 10 min for the tutorial when really it takes like 30 seconds, but the way you teach, is possibly the best. Giving examples, things to watch out for and keep in mind. I learned a lot about Zippo's, knives, tricks and all sorts of stuff from you. If only more teachers taught they way you do, treating us like friends, making sure we know what we're doing, describe so we understand! The funny thing is, Its better than any teacher Ive had in person. And you do it through a video!

Thanks dude... I completely appreciate a 'how to do' vid on this! I am in a band, and bought a zippo for our lead guitarist's bday). So, I bought the lighter and got it engraved with her name and a four-leaf clover (she's irish), as well as a ' -love the band.' So I had the engraved case, inner lighter, and wicked box... then I wanted to try it to make sure it was good to go. No flame. So, I'm watching your vid a couple times to make sure I don't light my place on fire! U saved my present idea!

  • @livinpie

@EclipseDante They're tight sometimes when they're new. I suggest getting a bit of wire, threading it through the holes in the chimney, and twist the ends of the wire together over the top. Then, either use your hands or a pair of plyers, and pull that sucker straight out. After the first time, it should come out relatively easily.

@cutlerylover little tip.if you fill a zippo and say it lasts a week before it dries up. if you tape split in the body it creates a semi/airtight seal that prevents the evaporated fuel vapors from escaping the lighter as easily. thus letting a fill last longer.....just be warned electrical tape can leave a sticky residue on your case if you rip off the tape to quickly. i recomend a thumb of a heavy duty ruber glive and cut it into a 2 inch loop.

I bought Ronsonol from walmart. I feel like that bottom cloth has plenty of capilary action so i just fill the case halfway and slide the body in and tilt it slightly until the capilary action sucks up the fluid, maybe shake it to hear if there is any loose fluid, that works great and is super easy imo. Also no need to go thru the steps of flipping up that cloth thingy and worrying about any leaks on the top of the body while it's upside down. you ever try doing it this way?

The point of the lid not closing when you flick the clip up is for if you happen to be doing a cool action movie shot where you walk out a room and you throw your zippo back and it blows up the room behind you that you just poured gasoline on the floor of, it might close when it lands if it had no clip stopper, hope this helps lol ;) obviously a joke

i had that same problem. look at your lit and see if its loos. im talking about a lot of play in it. that happens after opening and closing the zippo for a while. your hinge wears out and your fluid will evaporate. if you do tricks this is even more common. between constantly opening an closing the lighter and the possibility of a loos hing that happens. if the hing is loos zippo will cover it in the warranty. some of them do that anyway but its not that common. tricks should be minimal.

Now every time I light my zippo it will stay lit, but get gradually smaller and smaller in the matter of seconds and then I'll pretty much only have the blue part of the flame on the bottom of the wick. Hi cutlerylover
I have a gas zippo lighter with a dial in the middle to release gas. When I fill it with fluid then open the screw it works but really quickly runs out of gas. But when I close the screw it doesn't work at all. What can I try to make it work? I notice that when I close the lid it pushes a bar over towards the source of the flame, to close the gas flow I presume.
Any advice and help would be dearly appreciated.

My dad taught me 2 things over 40 years ago- Never over-fill your Zippo, or else you will get a "hot pocket" (burning leg syndrome) when you stick it in your pants pocket. The other is to keep spare flints under your felt pad. Nothing worse than being "In the Field" and having a flint run out on you, with no replacement.

Thank you for these videos, I recently started a small Zippo collection and I am a smoker myself and do think Zippos are really cool. You're in depth vids help quite a lot.

Specz Nicety I am aware of it but you should be aware of it origins. Just because it was involved in his regime doesn't mean the symbol as a whole is evil. If you think that then you're stupid.

it's because you've wet the wheel with fluid, give it a moment to dry, and it will be better. Or it means you have to replace the flint.

Hey man, you should make a playlist with all of your zippo-related videos so we can have them all in a list.
