Today we are stuffing a converted 8.8 into Mikeys HCI Camaro.
The car makes some good power and finally took out the 10 bolt we install the rear end and some aftermarket suspension goodies.

How were you able to use stock axles? Did the 8.8 carrier just have the same splines count or did you have to find a custom carrier? Also how did you setup the solid crush sleeve? Did you just set preload with a crush sleeve then measure it and shim the solid sleeve to that measurement?
The pinion goes in and out a couple times to get the preload right. Measuring the crush sleeve that came out is a great start. I find the final is usually .003-.005 less than the crush sleeve to get a nice feel.
28 spline center matches the factory 10 bolt 28 spline axles so it works. Can upgrade from there and get axles ordered through strange engineering to make it all jive
How did you guys fill the rear end with fluid? Doesn’t the hiltsy torque arm mount block off the factory 8.8 fill plug?
I believe you are correct, I believe there is a sensor up top that you can remove and fill from top or drill n tap hole on other side

Do you know what size those spacers/reducers are for 8.8 to the axle tubes? I’m trying to do this myself but I can’t find the information for it.
Just slid the 10 bolt tube straight into the 8.8 tube

What splines are the axles and carrier? Is there a kit to make this all work? Also what vehicle did the rear end come out of?
I think any 8.8 could be used. These ones are from truck 8.8. 28 spline could go aftermarket and upgrade

How do you check if differential is centered?
This eas fabbed up before we got it. But if it wasnt its just a lot of time woth tape measure and a note pad. Keep pinion in same place as stock

I want to say complete housing that was already all welded up was about 800 with the t lock installed still.

It does! 28 spline is same as gm. Then the ends of house are 10 bolt still
@@StreetcarShenanigans That does not make me comfortable at all. That means they are c-clip style axles and only 28 spline. A 12-bolt Chevy axle has a 30 or 33 spline shaft and an axle from Strange or one of the other makers has a c-clip eliminator setup that retains the axle if it breaks. Broken C-clip axles are noooo bueno..
You are right about that. This only solves ring gear/diff problems.
We havent had an issue yet but if something breaks it will likely get 31 or 33 spline replacements. Doing it all at once is pricey
Would be nice to do 9 inch ends right away and 35 spline s track but thats like 2k more!
What was total cost of this 8.8 build
All in probably 1200 bucks without any other major upgrades
