They started singing together in harmonies at the age of 9 (Barry) and 6 (his twin brothers Robin and Maurice).
This song was donated to UNICEF. It hit No. 1 in both the US and Canada. It's earned the charity around $11 million in royalties since then. Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb wrote this track with "Tragedy" in an afternoon off from the making the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie; that same evening, the Gibbs wrote "Shadow Dancing" for Andy Gibb (but that song was later credited to all four Gibbs).

Too Much Heaven is from the Bee Gee's live performance at The Music for UNICEF Concert: A Gift of Song. It was a benefit concert of popular music held in the United Nations General Assembly in New York City on January 9, 1979. It was intended to raise money for UNICEF world hunger programs and to mark the beginning of the International Year of the Child. The concert was videotaped and broadcast the following day on NBC in the U.S. and around the world. The Bee Gees gave UNICEF rights to all royalties from the song. It's raised about $13 Million for UNICEF thus far.

Vibrato...that thing with his (Barry's) voice. The other two are his twin brothers, younger but just as talented as him. They have some truly singular material. They write everything they sing, and they write a lot for other artists. btw, Barry is not always doing lead vocals, the other guys do some too, and they are fantastic. None of them read music or ever had a lesson on any instrument. They released 32 albums, 22 of them studio. These three kids from the Isle of Man did pretty well for themselves, selling over 220 million records. One of my faves from the 60's is "To Love Somebody", which they wrote for Otis Redding, and ended up recording themselves. And I love "For Whom The Bell Tolls", 1993. What you're hearing is 27 vocal tracks! Barry recorded 18 by himself (triple-tracked the melody and 2 harmonies in chest voice, then triple-tracked the melody and harmonies in falsetto). Then all 3 of them triple-tracked the melody and harmonies in chest voice together. So, no, this video is not actually live, but many people swear it is! They do a fantastic job of lip-synching, but if you watch carefully, you can see one spot where there are harmony vocals, but only Barry is 'singing'.

Its live. You should research how many times they were asked about this cut, and they always said it was recorded "live". Plus, they sung three at the microphone all the time. Check out some of their concerts. Their live performances sound as good as the studio ones. They sang together for so many years from such a young age, that they knew each other inside and out and that's one reason they always sounded perfect, both pitch and timing. Amazing talent.

Their voices were real. Without technologies of any kind. Vocal technique only. Geniuses, forgotten and little recognized. 50 years of unforgettable, chameleon-like career, they reinvented themselves and their style is unique. When you hear a line from a Bee Gees song, you know it's them and no one else. Unique.

Thanks, Honest! No better harmonies than in family... Barry usually took the lead, as he does here... but my favorite was always Robin... hope you hear some of the songs where he takes leads... (truth is, anyone of those boys could hit any of those falsetto notes on any day of the week...lol) p.s. I think this was not truly "live" some of it was studio.. but if you see them LIVE, there's not much difference.. even when they were older...

They have been singing, since they were teenagers in Australia. They’re actually from the Isle of Man off the coast of England, but moved to Australia very young. Their first hit was there in Australia. But they found out about it as they were on the boat heading back to England. They signed with the same recording company that had the Beatles. They partied with the Beatles and others that were very popular during that time period.
There is so much musical history about these brothers that there have been several documentaries made of them. The most recent is called, “How can you mend a broken heart.” That one came out the year of the pandemic. It should have been in theaters, but ended up being on HBO.
The Bee Gees have written songs for Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers, and Dolly Parton, Celine Dion …just to name a few. Every one of those songs or albums that were produced by them went to the top of the charts. They wrote the song for the movie “Grease” which was the title song. Which went to the top of the charts.
They consider themselves R&B in the 70s. They already had songs written for the next album when they got a call from their producer for songs for his new movie he was putting out. That movie was Saturday Night Fever. The term Disco was applied to their music at that time.
The oldest is still with us. Barry, who is the lead singer in this song came out with an album of his older songs with country artists called “Greenfields.”
The Bee Gees are going to be recognized in the month of December of this year and will be honored at the Kennedy Center. This is a prestigious honor that is way overdue. It will be televised.
The brothers were very close to Michael Jackson. He is godfather to Barry’s son named Michael. Also, Barry and Michael Jackson recorded a song that was never released. This recording was done at Barry’s home studio. It is on CZcams called “All in the Name.”
I recommend watching the latest documentary. I think it is on Amazon prime now? Not quite certain of that. But it really gives a lot of information that has been left out of other documentaries.
    Enjoyed your reaction! Carry-on.
