    So many people compare these things to TT Lambos making over 3000hp on the factory block but seem to ignore the fact that it's a small v6 against a larger v10. What they do with these VR38s are mind bending especially when you think when the car came out it was supposed to be untunable lol

    • @Bigwjack64gb

      the 3000hp lambos and r8's dont use factory block they are either using the underground racing long block with the 5.7 stroker crank or the shop they came from is likely machining a new block out of billet. my understanding is any of the r8s and huracans pushing past the 2000whp barrier are using this long motor. also keep in mind the Lp series gallardo uses a different motor entiely to the pre lp series which uses a 5L block, i dont believe any of the big shops have built a 5L past 2200whp. also remember a 2000whp r35 is likely pushing 60+ psi a 5.2 huracan or r8 making north of 2000whp would be lucky to push 30psi of boost. i agree with you though mind bending that the little 3.8, all be it stroked out, can hit the same amount of power and often run a quicker 1/4 mile time than these big v10s.

    • @iPROFITDON
      @iPROFITDON Před 3 lety +3

      @@Bigwjack64gb They have pushed the factory block well past 2000whp. That red Drag965 Huracan ran 242 in a half mile, pushing the stock block over 10k rpm. They do have X version pre LP cars like Moe's, they sound so much better imo, that thing is making north of 2000whp. Could they run 60+psi? I don't see why not, but that's unusable power. They're already blowing the tires off through the traps at 260mph. For the Lambos it's a traction game, not really a power game.
      Now all those X2-3 cars I'm sure are on proline racing billet blocks. You're right I don't think they're pushing that on stock blocks but iirc Kevin 2500whp is plenty doable on with a stock block.

    10 years span of R&D has allowed performance shops to develop the VR38 performance parts. So now we see turbo kits and fuel system for the VR38 to produce over 1000bhp without breaking a sweat.
    Some may disagree with me but i think the VR38DETT is like the Skyline GTR RB engine. Many years back 1000bhp from the RB engine is a feat of engineering. And clocking 320km/h on the highway in a Skyline GTR was ground breaking.
    Now even a stock block VR38 could go up to 1500+ bhp before it develop cracks. And it never cease to amazed me to see the VR38 engine now pushing way above 3000bhp and still be limited by turbo. Unless we could perfect a way to build boost down low and then in the higher gears allow the bigger turbo to switch over as it spool up and deliver all the torque twisting power to crack 250+ mph or over 400km/h top speed.
    Maybe next year in 2019 we might see 4000bhp produced the VR engine and maybe even 5000bhp that puts that fake POS Devel Sixteen to its grave.

      In strictly numbers it is similar to the RB engine. You are also correct about the limits of the typical twin turbo setup. The high hp GTR guys need to look at diesel power guys if turbos aren't doing enough. Diesel power comes from sequential turbos. I think Comp Turbo makes a 144mm turbo which is probably too big for this engine in a twin turbo configuration.

    • @dj4monie
      @dj4monie Před 5 lety +3

      RB needs much more work to live at 1500 hp. Booth ETS, English Racing, Boostin and Shep himself have said you are basically upgrading the turbos, cams, bolt-ons and running it on E98 or C85 to get those numbers can drive it for two plus years of events without a rebuild. Motive DVD's own R32 started coming apart around 700 hp stock block.

      @@dj4monie I have also watch Motive video on the RB block myths. Blew my mind that the RB26 N1 block isnt any better than the stock U05 block and is below the RB30 and RD28 blocks in terms of hardness and bore diameter.
      RB blocks esp the RB26 are prone to cracking, so to combat it would require re-machining the bore and fixing braces if you want to make big power on the stock block. Or pretty much go billet blocks

    It's interesting that he says that more boost is safer than more compression at that level. One thing I was wondering about is stroking vs standard stroke but chasing more revs, surely you'd get more revs on standard stroke, but would that make more power. Or is it more like you go 10% bigger capacity with stroking, but only lose say 7% of the revs, so you get extra power at maximum rpm.

    • @BeamRider100

    • @lightmetalinc.6488
      @lightmetalinc.6488 Před 5 lety +5

      If your running very a large turbo/s the latency or lag increases and the efficiency of the turbo is pushed into a higher rpm range which you need to access by revving the engine higher. Higher capacity allows more air to enter earlier and reduces lag along with the strength advantages that come with a billet crankshaft. You can aslo hit a point where your turbo has maxed out and revving higher is only putting additional stress on the engine and not yielding any significant gains. Another factor is Rod to Stroke ratio, V38's are very well designed with 1.86:1 ..and even after pushing them to 4L+ cylinder filling is still in a very desirable range. There is no trade off with these engines, you can stroke it to 4.1L and still rev it too the moon if you have a giant turbo that is making significant gains above 8500rpm.

      @@zyou8er It comes down to what you want out of the engine and how much money your willing to spend. If you want all out durability at the 1000whp range a billet crank is stronger, will make more torque low down and brings in the boost earlier. With that said I'm sure its possible to make the same power on a stock crank and go just as fast in a straight line. Horsepower is just a number, I have the most fun in cars around 300-600whp, R35's are too serious and expensive for your average Joe to play with.

If a veyron makes 3000hp of heat at 1k hp you can do the math on this car. Even AMS resisted it as long as they could before mounting the turbos in the same location.
