Gods amongst men! So awesome getting a peek into the philosophy of Mine’s head mechanic. Could not imagine how well a mine’s k20a would rev or how balanced a new Miata could be
Mine's ❤. I love the way they tune their cars and how much they're dedicaded to this philosophy of balance. Thank you gt channel and Captain Bradford.👍
I've been a fan of Mines and other now legendary Japan tuning houses since way back, and there is that element of awe watching the Mines master engine builder talk about their builds. But I also can't help think that a lot what he talks about, "strengthened parts" and the "secrets", are fairly basic procedure here in Australia where it can be argued that the RB development has surpassed Japan for some time now. Especially when you consider the price of a mines engine, you can do a much more serious build with a billet stroker kit, vcam etc etc for less money. Not detracting from a great video though!
I think a few locations outside Japan they have definitely surpassed them when it comes to tuning for the highest hp. Drag racing is a small niche over there compared to other countries where its far more popular and people will do anything to make the power to win back 10% of what they spent.
RB development here in Aus has surpassed that of in Japan for over a decade now. All the RB builds in Japan look very dated compared to what you can find here in aus. Just look at all of the fastest GTRs in the world, they are all in Australia and use mostly Aussie parts from brands such as Nitto, Hypertune, and PRP.
I agree with what is being said here that the fastest GTRs in a STRAIGHT LINE are build in AUS no doubt. But as was said many times in this video, they don't tune for humongous power. They tune for balance, usability and response. That's what Mine's specializes in. You get a great hyper reliable engine that could push more than double what they tune for if they really wanted to. But at that point, it's not useable anymore unless you're running slicks, etc etc. Drag racing isn't all that popular in Japan so huge HP builds are just not as popular as they are in other countries.
So cool and stoked to see that the R34 GT-R engine is getting a overhaul!! Can't wait to see it appear in action on GTChannel, best motoring, hot versione etc.!!
the way i look at it, mine's is pretty practical when it comes to functionality, like response & reliability over crazy power figures, light rims, carbon propellor shafts etc. i'm just curious why they didn't adopt the z tune kit as it's proven from an aerodynamic perspective, also such a great company didn't develop a new variable cam & valve lift system for both intake & exhaust sides, use electronic throttle body, trigger kits, & put on new coatings onto the motor's internals. some of those are gonna take response to another level while lowering the output & increase longevity (coating).
Fantastic vid indeed. The all alcantara interior really shaves age off the R34 interior. Is the gear shifter from the car missing or is Mines converting it to a DSG transmission? LOL!
They have a Nissan Note also. It would be interesting to learn more about tunning in more regular cars in Japan. I remembered JUN Auto had a interesting Suzuki Swift a few years ago.
Love these videos. The reason why The RB26DETT, 2JZ, and even the K20 series engines won't die off or ever stop being used/rebuilt for quite a while is that their engineering makes them extremely reliable. Yes there are minor issues but they are easily fixed with aftermarket parts. It is hard to recreate the wheel. I wished Nissan would have continued the use of the I6 engines, but I figure in development the weight and distribution of the weight of using one might hamper with the handling. If anyone knows exactly why Nissan did not continue to use the I6 design for the R35, I'd appreciate the response. Thanks. So what I am getting for those who asked the question of what's better The RB or the 1JZ or 2JZ "Which one is better"? The answer is personal preference? .4 more liters of displacement in the 2JZ but doesn't rev as high stock, and the RB is 2.6L but revs higher. So more tq down low vs a higher rev range...Ideally if built properly both can have the same rev range and power band, so my next guess would be if one prefers AWD vs RWD when it comes to which engine to choose. The 2JZ and RB26 are both amazing engines in their own rights and the choice of which one to use comes to the the owner and what the owner chooses to use the engines for. I could be completely wrong though.
When he picked up the 2 connecting rods and 1 piston at the same time .. the builder wanted to remove the piston from his hands to place it back in line with the others so no damage would happen i caught that and chuckled llol
PRP has found through extensive block testing, that given the same stresses, a 2j will outlast an Rb26 block. It comes down to use case whether it really matters or not. But the sound, can't be compared. Nothing sounds or revs like an RB. I'd give my left nut for a Mines factory built R34
Such amazing content, I wish one day I can build cars like Japanese people. I'm fascinated by their craftsmanship. Just soo different than western.. Thank you for this video.
i love this. optimized engine internals, beautiful cars that are appreciated as they are but still lightly modified like that debadge on the R35 from the first clip. 😍
and also that japanese spirit in general of the cars being pretty light, and them also only getting improved in every way and not necessarily downgraded for looks or anything. and those beautiful green landscapes in the background and stuff like: that R35 you took a drive in was really fast, yet really quiet and not getting on other drivers nerves
This was amazing, what a great episode. And I think the Master meant to say in America they go 3500 hp. The Honda motors are at 1000+. Hell we have 1400 hp jet skis with Honda k24 motors in them.
