- This was on our opinion the absolute Highlight of the @GoodwoodRR SpeedWeek Shootout event which our Team was invited to a couple weeks ago. It´s the Calsonic Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R built by Ric Wood Motorsport and driven superbly by 26-year old BTCC driver Jake Hill, who completely "stole the show" on its final timed run. With Boost turned all the way up to 2.0 bars, making he RB26 Engine produce around 1020Hp, enough Torque to move Earth on its Axis, and all that transmitted to the ground through a 4 Wheel Drive system coupled to a Manual H-gated transmission, you can guess it made for nothing less than an incredible spectacle...
A true product of Ric Wood´s passion and craftmanship, this is a replica of the original Group A car, but the level of authenticity and attention to detail in the quest to emulate the original Group A "Godzilla" was such that it reportedly cost almost 500.000 Euros to put together. It also offers a glimpse of the true potential of a Race Car which was famously banned for being too quick for its competition, as we can see it being raced in anger in un-restricted form and making full use of the wonders of boosting.

They needed that camber because R32 has most of of its weight on the front, weight distribution is almost 60/40

Folks, make sure to read the description on this channel. There's a lot of relevant info about a given car and often its driver. This R32 is pretty amazing. Just sitting there, it still sounds like it's inhaling pets and small children. A rocket on the track.

@@amd87ts No need for negativity. HCM is one of the best motorsport channels on CZcams. The videos are relevant. They're nicely shot and edited with the viewer in mind. The description of a given video follows suit, providing additional information that actually matters. If you have a question as to the stated power of the R32, there are better ways of receiving an answer.

Only in North America is this actually impressive. In lots of European countries manual transmissions far outnumbered autos over the last 20 years, same with Japan. If you couldnt drive a manual, chances are you weren't driving, period. Those who know how to drive stick cant help but shake their heads when people have serious problems driving that platform considering it used to be the norm

I remember back in the days of Playstation one, Gran Turismo is where some of us got to first learn of the greatness the Calsonic R32 had to offer. Cars like this in games made me go out and research the real life counterpart and it literally set a solid direction for my taste in cars.

Fun fact - The original Group A Japanese driver K. Hoshino wasn't sure about the capability of this car before the race, after test driving it he called the car a "monster" and "unbeatable". Also, due to the car's suspension setup, one of the car's front wheel is usually in the air when cornering.
Also goes to show that a racecar can still have reasonable ground clearance.
90´s Group A Touring Cars definitely had to.. Bathurst comes to mind for some reason 😅
Quite often lowering a car forces the suspension geometry to a point where it is deteimental to the handling.
Anything car with 1000 hp can be a racecar

there is a thread about a rich guy bought this gtr and he found that the maf sensor goes to nowhere. So, nobody wasnt really figuring out how much power put during that bathurst
I remember when this thing destroyed every other car on the track watching on tv as a kid and my dad cheering em on. Iconic livery. Also a proud owner of a 32 myself.
Must be a dream, what an honor it would be to own an r32, I like the more subtle look of it than the r34, one day, if the times allign I'll own one.

No, that would be a 1J and 2JZ, they addressed the faults that the RB26 had, shit oil pumps and oiling. 2JZ is one of the best engines in the World, a giant killer.

This car is not exactly the same version (Australian version was made with lots of custom racing parts from local fabricators I believe, correct me if I'm wrong) but the Aus. version sure did kick ass in the early 90s at Bathurst!

@@alwaysturnonaircon Of course all race cars in such events are custom built, but I am not talking about all race cars, I am talking about the R32 GTR specifically. Nismo sent over JGCT-spec GTRs to the race teams in Australia but the cars were not appropriate for Bathurst and the high level of competition there, so the Aussie teams decided to custom fabricate parts for the GTR to suit Bathurst better.

If you're going to try and be funny, you should try to also be right. The Skyline is not, and never was a Datsun. Nissan pulled the Z over from Datsun and the Skyline over from Prince.

Its quite rare for me to get scared watching a guy drive a three two around a course. This guy is really bringing out the potential makes me quite nervous.
What a car/driver.
On the edge with no more to go, if this had a little bit more aero it might go faster but them 2 1/2 tyres worth of grip it has when cornering (just look at the wheels it lifts in the corners) is what's stopping it from going harder.
Some serious power, grip, driving skills all in an epic car...
But you can see it can push any more, the grip in that rubber is incredible when you think of all that weight, power and sideways force... like this car wants to lift up and is, thanks to a stiff chassis awesome suspension set up and camber with grip grip grip for days....
No matter how old I get I will always be this excited over seeing things like this... engineering awesomeness and skilled driver... whoop whoop..
