  • After a small rise in water levels on the Aberdeenshire River Don I decided to take Zee to a new part of the lower river. It only took three casts to make connection with a fish and it just so happened to be a huge Brown trout. After a short fight the fish was safely in the net where we measured and weighed it. The fish was safely returned to hopefully grow even larger.

That's underneath the closed walking bridge at tillydrone. This was my local stretch when l was a member of the AADA club many years ago, (hope you guys are also members as your fishing it).. had a few nice brownies out of here, best one was 6lbs on the fly.

Both ADAA members so no issues there. I was born and raised in BOD so that’s my back garden as well.

Definitely a brownie. The fish was caught in June and there was no doubt in my mind what it was. You are right though a lot of boys get confused later in the season when the coloured sea trout come on the take.

Isn’t the water quality of Don river very bad?

@@earthq1077 like all rivers in the UK there are pollution incidents but I wouldn’t describe the water quality as very bad. In fact the river Don is arguably the best brown trout river in the UK. Historically the water quality was very poor whilst the paper mills operated on the Don as they released dye which changed the colour of the river on certain days of the week.

@@ne_predatorfishing9382 Oh man we have a don river here in Ontario, Canada. We are talking about two different rivers. Unfortunatly our Don river is gone.

I've had bigger than that in town....... make sure you lads put them back, for others to catch, if I go to a certain peg regularly, I catch the same fish, week in, week out, I can tell by any damaged fins etc. If I hit them on the head for the pan and believe you me, I've had 4 pound trout on the stick, they wouldn't be there to give me sport the following week would they?
