    In all seriousness, you guys have amazing chemistry and compliment one another. You should literally do a show like The Resleevables. Just do Magic History and breakdown what you think of sets, power level. Top 10's of various things from colors, spells in that color, etc. Channel Fireball used to do it way back in the day, not sure if they do it still today. It's always good to hear from 2 separate minds on content matter who are as insightful as you guys.

    The Wandering Emporer and memory Deluge are top of my list. Actually started playing alchemy lately after not touching that format ever since it launched just to get a breath of fresh air from seeing those two cards every second game. They would have been fine if they rotated on time, just feels like the emporer especially has overstayed her welcome.

    I know it isn’t rotating yet (!!!) but the number one on my list will always be Sheoldred. It’s just dumb deck building-any deck that plays her will be competitive because she’s one of the best creatures ever printed.

    • @danielklein5829
      @danielklein5829 Před měsícem +1

      While I wholly agree its kind of mad she barely saw play at the recent PT because of just how many other great pieces/creatures black gets at 4 mana now.

    • @51gunner
      @51gunner Před měsícem +3

      Sheoldred's just such a generic value engine that I find her a bit boring. If she stays in play, she wins the game. She's not even "good in this kind of deck" or "good if that happens" - she triggers off every card drawn in a game, and if there's one constant across formats it's that players always try to draw more cards.
      That level of value stapled to a 4/5 deathtouch for 4 mana is crazy. She stonewalls most small to medium creatures and always trades up against bigger ones. She even renders smaller attacks totally irrelevant just because the player with her out is going to (probably) out-gain the damage they do.

    12:13 this is my problem with those 2 cards, both are huge bombs, both in the same deck, and they are both instant speed, same cost. Not only that but they favour opposite plays, if you are worried about deluge finding a sweeper or removal/counter you need to play fast and emperor is gg, if you are worried about emperor you need to play slow, and passing a turn to deluge is gg.

  • @mathieujaillet5996

    I'm surprised you didn't mention the Kamigawa legendary lands. I can't stand seeing them anymore, they are a stapple in every single existing deck. There is actually no reason at all not to play them (except for 1 deck, temur combo). It has just become stupid. And the funny part is that 90% of the time, you'll just play them as regular lands, but still they will be there, in your decklist, and it's been 3 long years of Eiganjo, Otawara, Boseiju... they have to go for good and never come back.

    • @danielklein5829
      @danielklein5829 Před měsícem +10

      big agree on this, Boseiju is a contender for one of the most powerful lands ever made, I love playing with them but playing against them is particularly brutal and there's never not a reason to put at least one of each colour you're playing unless your list really heavily requires basics as you said.

      I won't miss them at all. Eiganjo and Boseiju and Otawara being extra removal that white, green, and blue can play at negligible deckbuilding cost (but for the latter two, substantial money) is just annoying.
      They also feel rather luck-based. As something that's usually a 1-of or MAYBE a 2-of, I always sigh a little when one of them hits. "Lucky you, you hit that 1/60 card in your deck".

  • @KoshoShinogi
    @KoshoShinogi Před měsícem +1

    The real problem with Thalia is that it encourages playing other cards like it. If it was just a single legendary creature that taxes your spells by 1, you can fight through that. But then they throw Invasion of Gobakhan on top of that. And Annointed Peacekeeper on top of that. And before you know it, you're sitting there unable to play Magic.

    • @51gunner
      @51gunner Před měsícem +1

      I'm going to predict some more aggressive decks running fewer colors. Having the enemy fastlands opens some doors but losing all the two-color slowlands that enter untapped WAY more often is a big deal. All the slowlands kind of don't have drawbacks after turn 2 and honestly, most Standard decks can survive T1 with a tapped land. I've only found stuff like Shattered Sanctum to be awkward when I keep an iffy 2-lander after a mulligan & then don't topdeck into a third land (or get another slowland).
      The painlands i've found painful (haha) to run more than 4 of or to try and lean on for color-fixing beyond 2-ish colors; if you're in 2-color and need to tap 1-2 colored mana out until you draw into something better it's fine, but if it's later in the game and that's your only (say) red source the damage can pile up. The fastlands REALLY stink to play as land 4+; I've found those turns are the more pivotal ones that hurt to have tapped mana.
      I hadn't realized it with the triomes, but the cycling mode is something I think that deck will miss. It's not cheap, but playing against Domain I've lost matches where the cycled Triome finds the removal or something needed to stabilize.
      I'm a bit burnt on Standard and I'll probably take a step back from it until rotation. I'm really sick of seeing all the cards mentioned in this video. Wandering Emperor can absolutely fuck off forever.

      @@alpha34098 I doubt that Leyline can pick up all the slack for Domain. Sure, it's great from opening hand but what are they going to replace to fit 4x Leyline in the deck? They're not going to cut 4 lands for Leylines and they don't want to hard-cast it; it's pretty expensive to get out that way and they'd far rather resolve a 4-mana ramp spell to get to 6 mana than hardcast a Leyline.

      Aside from both topics you two mentioned like 10 cards that will be missed and what a 3 year roto means -some other good topics would be;
      - how designing for EDH has effected standard

    Triomes rotate and we will for sure see more mono and dual colour decks.... i think 3 colour decks would maybe fall by the wayside....

    the thing about farewell and commander is that this doesn't do the absolutely inonimable.... it doesn't exile lands, so commander players think it's fine.
    remove all the options and replace the entire text for "Exile all lands" and then, immediately, people will start punch you in the face for running it.
    we can't talk about commander as if the banlists and actual play patterns made any sense at all.

    i'm with you guys the most about wandering emperor. and i play this card pretty much every time i fire up arena (UW control in standard), but i still cannot wait for rotation. Farewell - at least this card isn't really being played that much anymore. like i dont even play farewell in my UW control deck in bo1. but i do agree with every card on this list to some degree. harvester, yup. i think they could have just rotated ONE SET out of standard, whcih is NEO, and that would have also solved tons of the issues cuz look how many cards that we are sick of are from NEO.

    Farewell should have cost WWWWWW or 2WWWW. The casting cost doesn't balance with the effect. Too cheap and easy to cast for the power level.

    I find it interesting the entire actual top 5 is all (partially) white cards. Not that the color is particularly more tiring, it's just got a lot of really good tools for aggro, midrange and control, with some overlap, so it felt like it was always present in the past few years, even during the Grixis dominance. With that said, plenty we'll be happy to see go in other colors, as the honorable mentions (and personal experience) show

    Wandering Emperor would be much less frustrating by changing the exile to "target creature loses indestructible, then destroy target creature" Exile is excessive given everything else the card does and all the exile removal in white
    Edit: Gotta disagree with Farewell though... It costs 6. It either had to be this good or a modal instant (given power creep) at that cost. Hate getting hit with it (and Sunfall just as much) but it's a 6 mana sorcery 🤷‍♂️

      I don't hate the card but it is very annoying and generates a huge amount of value for a 1 mana piece. Ping's your opponent, grows your swiftspear/slickshot, then becomes a 2/2 with haste. If it didnt have graveyard hate it'd still be a very good card. With the graveyard hate its an immediate must kill for any deck which cares.

    The one thing from honourable mentions I didn't really resonate with is the Bloodtithe Harvester. I think you are right it's almost an auto-include in Rakdos but I think it's because Rakdos is lacking options in that slot. It's going to really struggle to fill the 2 drops after rotation if there's not something good in Bloomburrow. Kind of sad because Rakdos really got hated out of the format by bans of Fable of the Mirrorbreaker and Invoke Despair and only just made a partial come-back with Discover in LCI. I'd feel better about getting rid of Bloodtithe if it was stifling the deck creativity because of how good it is but I don't think that's the case...there's just not enough other options.

    Of course, this issue with the Cappena Fetchlands can be easily solved by simply changing the Stacking Rules, allowing players to resolve the cards that have the same name all at once if they all activate at the same time unless something is activated in response
    That way, games against Temur Combo wouldn't drag too much because your opponent will be solving the Fetchlands in a more quicker pace

    I think Farewell would've worked better if they'd printed it in OTJ, because it could've been a spree card. Make it cost 2W, and then W or 1W for each of the options.

    I knew Farewell was going to be pick, but I also kind of think it's a strange pick. How often is it even played nowadays? The most board-wipey decks usually only play a single copy, and 6 mana is a looooot of mana in the long reign of Boros/Red aggro decks we've had in BO1, and the Esper decks we've had in BO3 where it's too easy to find and hold Ertai. Even Sunfall is getting cut in favour of Temporary Lockdown because it's so much cheaper.
