  • It's a brand new Volvo. It's electric. We have it for five hours, but it's winter and we had a blizzard last night. Let's go for a drive.

I've driven more BEVs and PHEVs in the last six months than the last ten years combined. I like this XC40 Recharge for what it is, which is very much a city car. What do you think?

Definitely a good car. The technology keeps advancing so the consumer wins.

Low range but much closer to a conventional vehicle than a Tesla. My wife just purchased one and likes it

@@brucebolduc3403 I enjoyed driving it. I hope she does too!

Wow, this looks GREAT. Fit and finish, design, utility. I'm impressed. I'd buy this over the gasser anyday as a commuter and errand/daily driver.

These must be selling pretty well because I’ve seen a ton of these. They look really good 😸

I suspect you’re seeing ICE XC40s, I don’t think many of the BEVs are on the roads yet. They’re good looking machines, inside and out.

Any comments on traction in your nicely typical winter conditions? Standard AWD traction, or any quirks?

    • @BrianMakse

Great question. Really wish I had more time with it for a more comprehensive review. Regarding traction, this thing had some decent winter meats, so traction was excellent. Torque delivery was seamless.

Ive being debating wheter to go this guy on standard which is the same price as audi q4 etron on standard. I hear this car has more features from other people than the audi but im still not 100%. I havent done a test drive on any but im planning on soon. Maybe i can ask you, which car od the 2 you prefer the most and why? Thank you a lot

I haven’t even seen the Audi, so I can’t comment.

Would you pick this over a model Y?
I wanted to love this Recharge so much but 2 minutes on the Tesla website tells you they missed the mark (not a TSLA fanboy either). Long Range Model Y gets 525 EPA KMs vs XC40 Recharge's 335.
I don't understand why these OEMs think they can offer much less at the same price? To me it's priced about 10k over what it should be even if you're ok with the shorter range.

Great questions. Lots to unpack here. I love what Tesla is doing in principle, however, I’ve been told their after-sales service is horrific and it's on that basis I don't recommend them to anyone.
Tesla is not constrained by normal business considerations like profitability, while Volvo and parent company Geely certainly are. The playing field is so skewed in Tesla's favour, it'll still take some time before any traditional automaker can develop an EV to compete straight up on price/range/specifications, let alone on brand itself.
I'd love a Tesla when they demonstrate a reputation for five star post-sale support that matches their prices, but until then, I'll take anything else.
