    Nice video. I wanted to free up the pistons on my SUV that's been sitting on the driveway for the past 5 years due to some problem with distributor. So, I am going to take off spark plugs and pour two teaspoons of engine oil into each hole of spark plugs and turn the crankshaft manually in clockwise after a week of letting the oil sink. So is this the way to do it or will it mess up the timing . And , is there certain limit on number of turns or can I turn it few more times until I feel the pistons being lubricated? I subscribed . Thank you.

    How can I tell if an engine is seized or nearly seized? New starter turns over very very slow like 1/10 or 1/20 what it would need to start. I'm using a battery pack and booster lead direct to starter but it turns very slowly. Not sure if maybe the new starter is bad.. But hard to see an old starter go bad and a new replacement starter to be DOA also. 2months of a headache.. Was hoping the battery cables were just bad, but the new starter spins fine out the car, but very slow when in the car. Just not enough speed to be anywhere near making it possible to start the engine.

    • @YOUCANIC
      @YOUCANIC  Před 2 lety

      It can happen that a new starter is doa. I would turn the crankshaft manually. Then find the same engine and do the same thing. Then you can determine if your engine is much harder to turn.

    • @ginakerry2588
      @ginakerry2588 Před 3 měsíci

      Omg. DON'T remove the timing belt. That would be a recipe for disaster!
      You can remove the accessory belt.
      The accessory belt is usually exposed.
      The timing belt requires you to remove a cover to access it. Leave the timing belt alone unless it's broken.

      Yes, if the spark plugs are still in. If replacing the hydraulic lifters, for example, then it's a whole lot easier to remove the plugs so you aren't fighting against compression when turning the engine..
