      In the comics the movie is based on, at some point way more powerful, older vampires from Europe show up and kill the vampires who set the whole thing up. They already know how bad of an idea it is to eat a whole town, even if it's in the artic circle. There was a a lot of material that continues on with the story after the events of the movie.

    I remember hearing Josh Hartnett was actually sick during the filming of this movie so if he was ill while making this, then that is absolute dedication on his part. What a wonderful and kind of underrated actor, truly. I love this film and I love this channel for covering it. Thank you so much lads!

      That’s when actors/actresses are at there best, they want to get the perfect scene right away so they can go back to resting. It’s a double-edged sword, you either get an amazing performance or literally watching someone sick.

      It's such a refreshing change from the imitation Anne Rice version we get so often, all pathetic and lovelorn. Here we get them away from their biggest risk and able to play with their food. I wish they had watched with the subtitles as it makes it clear much earlier on that they aren't beasts in terms of their intelligence, they are revelling in their power

    I have 2 friends that are Biologists, they did some internships in Antarctica Institute in Argentina and got to travel for the 3 months of spring to Antarctica... One of them made just 1 of the travels and decided that it was not his path, the other made 3 travels before getting hit title... You are in a close community of 60 people (military and their families and other researchers) and its a constant sunrise for the 3 months, there's no reference of what time of the day it is, only thing that made them not fo crazy is that the base has a routine organized, so you have a schedule to follow, otherwise you lose recollection of time. It's crazy....

      Your comment reminded me about an article I read about life on an icebreaker north of the arctic circle. Not only do you have to contend with the lack, or abundance of sunlight, there is also the fact that timezones are so close to each other that over the course of a couple hours you can easily travel across 12+ time zones.
      Completely untethered from external references to time.

    This is based on a fantastic graphic novel that had a great twist the movie omitted.
    In the graphic novel, the first vamp into town is kinda a young vampire that wants to party for the thirty days and have fun. The older vampire flies in on a private jet and meets with the young vamp kinda marvels that no one had thought of it before...
    And rips the head off the young vampire.
    After that, you have the vamps from the plane killing off the younger ones and planning to destroy the town to remove all evidence.
    Everything else is the same, I think.

The guy that killed the fogs was basically their renfield doing their bidding with the hopes of being turned by them. We've seen these humans helping vamps characters in a bunch of these movies. Danny Huston has always been a good villain. He played Stryker well in Wolverine Origins, as bad as that film was. David Slade was such a promising director for films. Look at Hard Candy. And the reason Twilight Eclipse is the best one is he brings his dark, methodical tone to it. The opening scene is him all over and his black mirror bandersnatch episode is very good.

    @HiZombieKitty Před měsícem +2

    Yes! I'm so happy you're watching this!
    This was the film that got me into the horror genre; I was 15 when I saw it in cinema after I had read the original graphic novel and love it so much.
    The only difference between the film and the graphic novel is the film doesn't include the character Vincente. Vincente was known as one of the Elder vampires (the later comics and novels expand upon how these vampires function), and he comes to visit Barrow after the group of vampires have already killed most of the townspeople. Seeing the destruction, Vincente attacks Marlow (the lead vampire in the film), saying that 'we had the humans believe we were stuff of nightmares for thousands of years and you've ruined it in one idiotic move'. Marlow being attacked is what gives Eben the idea to turn himself into a vampire.

    • @anaemiliaalmeida7238
      @anaemiliaalmeida7238 Před měsícem

      The elder Vicente wasn't the only difference between the novel and the film:
      1- Vampires didn't have their own language, their voices were just more deeper and guttural and have extended tongues;
      2- Vampires acted more like sadistic sociopaths who prefer to toy with their victims rather than apex predators, more like the little girl (who, unlike the movie, wasn't killed by the survivors);
      3- Marlow didn't have a female mate whom he later euthanized for being burned by UV lamps, considering the vampires in novel can regenerate almost instantaneously;
      4- The familiar was more vampire than wannabe and wasn't killed by Marlow.

    American here. About the phone thing...I've never ended a call without saying goodbye in one form or another. No one amongst my friends & family do either. In the wider circle of co-workers, business calls etc, if it's ever happened it was a rare occurrence & I'm sure I considered it a bit rude & felt a tad irked.
    I'm Southern & we're pretty mannerly in general but I don't think hanging up abruptly without saying bye is common in any part of the U.S.
    Also..regarding Americans having guns...my dad had a small caliber handgun that I only glimpsed once in my whole life. He certainly didn't carry it around. No one else in my family & none of my friends have guns, nor want them.
    None of my family are hunters, going back 3 generations for sure. I've known a few people who hunt (but don't care to know them well if they're overly enthusiastic about it) or who have guns for protection in the home but don't carry.
    Some people think Southerners, especially, are "gun nuts" but even though a lot of people own a gun or hunt, it certainly isn't as prevalent as movies make out.
    About vampire films...I love the old Hammer films from the 60's with Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing because they turned up on tv often when I was a kid.
    But my favorite is 1994's "Interview With The Vampire" with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt & Antonio Banderas.
    Style, elegance, beauty, humor & just enough actual horror.
    Have either of you seen it? How about reacting to it, I'd love to see what you think.

      I am an American in Utah, and the only times I would hang up without a word or the caller would not respond at the end of the call is with someone who I do not care about or if I openly dislike them.
      About guns: I always love the viewpoint (positive or negative) of other countries about our gun culture. I own two of them myself: a 12 gauge shotgun and a 22lr single shot revolver. They were both affordable, and I would take both of them to the shooting range. There was an incident where someone tried to break into my car while I was inside, and I had my revolver on me. I have spoken with a Mexican about the gun laws in his country, and he believes that it is unfair that the citizens are unable to protect themselves from the overpowered cartels and criminals terrorizing the innocent people.

With summer comes the light & when the sun is still up at 10 in the evening it can be very hard to tell, especially as its like your inner self awakes along with the light after that long dark winter so you kinda dont want to miss out on any of the light :) Our summer nights feel quite special

    I think this movie is awesome. Only two gripes (I guess): there was a huge time jump within the movie. That 30 days seemed like 3, tops.
    AND…2…they were so close to the sunrise. I feel like Hartnett kind of sacrificed himself for no real good reason. The vampires were about to leave, anyway. And, his killing the head dude wasn’t going to stop the others from future killings. I dunno. Still love it.

    To me Foster's character was a servant to the vampires (kind of like Renfield in the original Dracula), whose dream it was to be turned by them. Never occured to me, he was the sole survivor on the ship, but rather thought it was the same scenario on the ship as took place later in Barrow: Foster's character helping the vampires and they killing everyone, so I assumed he was with them even before they went on the ship. But I really like your take on it, as well! 🙂
    Anyway, great review guys! "30 Days" to me is one of (if not) the best horror/ vampire movies of the past 30 years! To me it's a lot better than Carpenter's Vampires. Very atmospheric, as well!

But that's only a handful of people and only on my business calls. (NB: I live in the deep American South with its "culture of honor," so we're pretty devoted to etiquette. Other parts of this big, big country may be different. In fact, I see another comment from another Southerner saying a similar thing. However, my perspective on guns is very different than theirs--I grew up assuming that everyone had a reloading room in their home.)

    I remember watching this film on a whim with my brother and two of his girl friends one night. I was about 12 and it was us four in a fairly dim light room and we were all scared out of our minds 😂 one of the few times that I was genuinely terrified watching a movie

    6:21 😅 American here and that always irks me, as well. I don't get why movies do that. I've never once simply hung up on someone without saying a proper bye, unless the conversation was less than friendly and a hang-up was warranted.

    I am pretty sure in the comic they use that ship to float around from place to place killing and eating and it got stuck in the ice there

    Americans, or anyone for that matters, but saying "bye" on the phone is just a movie trope. I've not said it and had people call me back asking "What's wrong, why didn't you say 'bye'?"

    @3:10 I don't think the creatures in "I am Legend"(2008) are vampires, even if they only come out at night. They don't have fangs, for example.

    If you guys are ever in a mood for more not glittering vampires, I'd say watch The Strain. I don't say react cause it's 4 seasons, I think, but I believe you'd like it. If you felt like reacting to the pilot, that'd be fun though ;)

    It if it wasn't for the ending fight scene with Josh Hartnett and the Vampires, I would say I love this movie but, because of the ending I only like this film. I mean they spend the entire movie building towards this one moment where something exciting is going to happen and then the moment comes and it ends with a single punch.... I just felt left down.

    "You're an idiot!!" Shaun's rant is so relatable as it's pretty much me when watching any horror movie. They always have at least one person dumb as hell or a kid that can't follow orders.
