    Why do you need a pump for the fresh water? I would just open the valve, crack a beer and take a seat on the bag giving it plenty of water pressure.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Před 2 lety +15

      That's one way to do it, but you might need more than one beer!

    • @edgramza
      @edgramza Před 2 lety +5

      @@LizAmazing I was just going to say that might be a six pack job! And with all that beer in me I would be emptying the black tank that much more often. 🍻

      @mikemiller9119 Před 2 lety

      Didn’t really think about it, but I think Liz said it took 40 mins. That’s quite a while to run a drill. Hard on the tool and depending how loud it is, hard on the neighbor. Does the bag empty out on its own? If so, why not just leave it there a for while.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Před 2 lety +2

      @@mikemiller9119 20 minutes to drain, 40 minutes for the whole fill and drain process. Yes, if your drill is loud you want to be considerate of your neighbors.

    • @edgramza
      @edgramza Před 2 lety +2

      @@mikemiller9119 I think the whole procedure from start to finish was 30-40 minutes. About 15 run-time for Paul’s Harbor Freight drill.

    Paul, You are so GREAT at explaining things. Thanks for teaching us the ins and outs and hacks. This reminds me of the time my sister-in-law went boondocking with us and decided to take a shower. She used up all our water and filled our gray water tank and we were only on our 1st day of camping! We assumed she knew that water would not be endless. Well, you know what they say about assuming……

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks Kathy! I had to chuckle when I read your comment. I remember watching a friend brush her teeth in her new camper-- while leaving the water running!!! Um...no.

  • @TC-nn7xk
    @TC-nn7xk Před 2 lety +5

    A couple recommendations:
    - Use the basic in-line 10 micron (blue) filter from the water source to your bladder to catch any bits in the water line. Then use a separate filter from the bladder to the RV tank to catch any bits that might be residual in the bag.
    - Use "drinking water freshener" in your water bag (1oz/20gal). While it's only Sodium Hypochlorite and any old bleach will do, the pre-made stuff is super diluted for drinking water and convenient. This will ensure any crud that may have found a corner of the folded up (dark and moist) bladder is killed off on the drive back to camp.
    - I'm sure you've covered it in other videos, most folks use a berkey or zero water between the tap and drinking for a last line of defense.

    I love watching you channel and the way you make it real. I did something "similar"... I mounted an additional RV water pump in the basement of our fifth wheel and attached a short 3/4" clear hose that I place into our fresh water tank opening. So I run a garden hose from a bladder to the additional water water pump and turn on the pump, and in about 5 minutes the bladder is empty. Just food for thought. Take care and blessings!

    Paul, Liz. We have been using bladders for a long time. Currently we have two one hundred gallon units. One for water and the other for sewer. I use a high flow pump that I picked up at harbor freight. It's one of there pond pumps. I have it rigged up on a board so I can use our filter system. I drain the sewer first and then dump it. Fold that tank up and disinfect everything and then use our clean tank for the water. I also throw a capful of bleach in the bladder just in case there are any nasties from the previous fill up.
    The thing I like about the bladders is they don't take a ton of room. I want to add a 100 gallon propane tank to our HDT. So I can fill our propane tanks and run our genie on it.
    I am basically rigging our setup to make it so we can be self sufficient for longer periods to boondock.
    We also have been looking at the Newair fridge/freezer that is a 68 quart size. One side can be a fridge and the other a freezer. Want to mount it on the HDT also. That way when we go to Costco we can buy more frozen meat, vegetables ect and hold it longer while we are out.
    Cindy thinks I'm nuts with how I want to set up our tow rig. Will have to email ya all a photo. 💕💕 Safe travels and roads Brian and Cindy, "xtreambydesign with passion"

      @@LizAmazing Thank you Paul for your personal reply. I am not a vet, but my father was, 25 in USAF, retired Chief Master Sergeant, my brother is, 18 years 82nd Airborne. One of my uncles on my mothers side is a Vietnam Vet. He was a helicopter gunner, shot down twice, second time was the one that injured him to the point of being sent home. He had issues at the airport when he arrived home that he shared with my mother and father in my presence. As a young boy, about 10, I've never forgotten that story and I never pass up the opportunity to shake the hand of a Viet Vet (actually any Vet) and give them a happy WELCOME HOME SOLDIER!, hence my salute to you. Our family are staunch supporters of our military and we know for a fact that we live our lives in this great country because of the sacrifices of those who gave their lives to our Homeland. I say again ..... THANK YOU my friend. Sometimes I only wish I could wear one of those caps with the pride that was earned by the wearer.

    Great ideas. I watch some sailing channels as well and there was one that I recall. It was the use of a filter and water freshener setup that one can use under a kitchen sink but this was used where one gets their water supply going to the tank on the boat. These sailors hooked up the kitchen 2-filter unit between the supply faucet to their intake on their hose. It probably makes the water in the tank cleaner and better smelling. Cheers

    great ideas. I especially like them since we've been doing these for a few years now and they work well. I would recommend that you change out that drill pump for a 12vdc or 120vac pump (HF for $60) as when we started filling our fresh water tank with them, we went through several drill pumps...they just seem to seize up very quickly. The HF pump has been going strong for 3 years now and as a bonus it's quicker than the drill pump. We don't use a macerator pump because we can go almost 2 weeks on our black, however grays fill quickly. So, we use another HF pump to pump grays to tank in back of truck similar to what you do. great vid..thx

      The faster & higher flow, the more water you're using though. Try a different shower head and you might skip the accumulator. Soon the US will have to find ways to use grey water to flush in homes because clean & safe is getting more scarce. Camping people can lead on that too.

    Looks like Colorado or Idaho. Good info guys. I’ve been FTOG for the last 2yrs, and I never noticed how much water I wasted. And how much of my garbage is plastic and non compostable paper products, which I press into 2x2 insulation boards that fill in shop framing. Not sure on R value but is better than bare wood /metal. If equipped and comfortable with Composting as it should take a lot less water and can be disposed of as needed. Macerator is a game changer once you get the hang of it. Accumulator can help extend battery life and not wake anyone up on those late night bathroom visits. Good videos - FT 14 yrs since 2000.

    My macerator pump is identical, I put it away and the bearings rusted up solid, very disappointed, another thing to rebuild. I bought a water storage tank that has a spigot at the bottom and got a Harbor Freight 120VAC water transfer pump to run off my small generator. Add a 2nd water tank under your dinette or sofa seats in a class C, you then plumb a line to the main tank line near the pump. Tanks are sold at marine stores. Important to keep the water weight between the axles if possible. You will overload your rear axle when the fuel and back tanks are full.

    Thanks for making this and providing ideas on how to make the camper better! I like the water bladder but I would figure out a way to use a rv water pump instead of the drill pump. The drill pumps typically state not for potable water- probably due to something inside the pump coming into contact with the water. I like that the drill pumps are a lot less expensive but the risk is too great for me. I use a Recpro 12v pump and if the RVs goes out, I have a spare on hand. But your highlight on the macerator needing 20amp is good since I’ve never heard that mentioned before and we’ve been considering it! And thanks for showcasing the accumulator and how you did it- I’m doing mine now and your tips are well appreciated! Cheers!

    This water container reminds me of when I had my 22 foot Invader travel trailer back in the 1980s. It was not a fifth-wheel, so I had lots of room in the bed of the truck. I carried a 50 gallon plastic water drum in the bed. I transferred water with a small 12 volt pump that I had permanently installed in a compartment near the tongue. It was always connected to my main water tank I traveled with the drum full of water. I had plenty of horsepower with my Ford F-250 camper special truck to carry the extra weight. I had to transfer water once while Boondocking in Death Valley and once in the Panamint Valley. You might want to consider installing a 12 volt pump in your trailer instead of using that battery operated hand drill. It could be permanently installed and connected to your water tank. It would sure save some work. I lost that tank many years ago. But I think that water bladder you have is well worth considering.

I had driven out from my home in Orange, CA and when I arrived at the Furnace Creek Ranch I was wholy unprepared for the 95 degrees temp when I opened the car door. Of course it was even worse when I woke up at 6:00 AM to go for a run, and I still remember the 127 degrees at Badwater 🥵

    Not sure if you ever considered it but I did the modification JD from BTBRV did. I installed gate valves on the end of the sewer lines. You can get ones that just twist on like your sewer hose or you can go with the permanent version JD used and I used as well. No more buckets or containers under the sewer port as long as the valve is shut before you take the cap off.

    Do you use the tote for both gray and black tanks? Also, a 12 volt pump for transferring the fresh water to your RV could work well.

      Yes, we do use it for both. Black first, then gray to rinse. Thank you!

    Thanks for all the awesome info! Just curious do you have or have you tried an Oxygenics shower head? From my understanding the increase the velocity and flow of the water. Thanks again.

      I have not used that showerhead but have something similar. It's an ecocamel. See you in our latest video right here: czcams.com/video/czfy2uFHZXQ/video.html

    You can use your RVs on board pump in siphon mode to pull the fresh water into the tank ✔️

      That's a good suggestion, thank you. We may give it a try!

    I set up my winterizing system to pump water from 5 gallon water bottle to my fresh water holding tank.

      That's great. Paul was worried about burning up the RV pump. Glad it's working for you though. See you in our latest video right here: czcams.com/video/x05KgjpHFAQ/video.html

    Just curious, don’t you have a siphon setting on your water set up? That is what we use to pump out the bladder.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Před 2 lety

      We do. But Paul says it's much slower. Plus he's concerned about burning out the pump. He'd rather replace a drill than a pump. And the drill powered pump is cheap, just $14, We highly recommend it. Thanks for your comment.

    We are experensed RV'er. However, we are new to using the Rhino 28-gallon portable waste wagon. Do you know of a good hack to know how full it is?

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Před 2 lety +1

      Great question, Robbie! Paul says he's gotten to where he can hear the sound change when it's full.
