      Oh and Liz be extra careful out there since more and more refugees/ illegals are going to be trying to get into the country now all of a sudden with title 42 expiring. I was just one 3 way phone chat with my camper haulin friends from Tyler Tex, and I says ya know you could be sleeping in your truck at night in the desert and 6 or 8 illegals are coming right towards your trk, what would one do ? A=Armed B=Bust jaw R=Run em over😂, Sorry , but it could be A life and death situation , I've never been afraid out here, but criminals don't always know there targets, ya know-----

      Yes and no, It is complicated. a search is allowed under exigent circumstances but the burden of such a search is so restrictive that a search warrant is always recommended or evidence is tossed. No legal advice here but I did the job enough to know to hold the vehicle and then obtain a search warrant., I direct you to the 4th amendment.

    Never ever allow Police to search your RV without Probable Cause, AND A SEARCH WARRANT. There are bad cops out there who will intentionally "plant" drugs on your RV as a reason to get a drug bust, and arrest you, and impound your rig, and seize anything they possibly can, just don't do it.

    Thank you for the video…and giving us an update on Paul. We are subscribers of both of your channels. As for what law to change, I would eliminate “lane splitting” by motorcycle drivers. I would also drop the “max 55mph while towing” law in California. We also cruise at 62mph in our Class A on roads with posted speed limits of 65 mph or more. It is the speed that we feel most comfortable.

    I’m a 60
    Year old solo female and have camped, hiked, kayaked, backpacked and traveled alone all over the country for decades. I take precautions and keep to myself and haven’t had any problems. I work on and maintain my own trailer and my Jeep.
    I hate crowds and noise. I can’t stand being around people and honestly, don’t want to talk with them.
    I avoid campgrounds and definitely don’t want to be tied down traveling with other people. I had built a small off road teardrop that is totally off grid and can go wherever my Jeep can go. I had it built with the express purpose of getting away from people and civilization.
    There are a lot of different ways to camp and enjoy and boondocking is what l do. If l stay in campgrounds l would go nuts.

    @Kevin_In_Alaska Před rokem +1

    Hello Liz!
    Such great travels and information you share with all of us.
    As far as allowing an officer to enter your RV, you do not have an obligation to allow it. If an officer insists, immediately ask to have the officer’s supervisor respond to your location. I’m also retired Law Enforcement and worked the road for 32 years, and never really had a reason to search an RV.
    Regarding the slow moving vehicle allowing vehicles to pass, you are not required to pull over in Washington or Alaska UNLESS you are driving SLOWER than the posted/maximum speed limit. I would not pull over in a large vehicle either. It’s not safe to try to stop into what is usually a small turn-out, not to mention having to pull out and pickup speed again. So, it’s obvious you have safety in mind for yourself and others. Continue with sharing your travels and RV safely, they’re quite enjoyable. 👍🏻
    I added an excerpt from the Washington Vehicle Code regarding slow moving vehicles.
    Safe Travel and Great Health, Kevin.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Před rokem +1

      Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for this, Kevin! My research showed that you could be speeding AND still have to turn off. I sure appreciate you clarifying this. Now I feel so much better about not pulling over when I'm doing the speed limit, but still have cars behind me.
      As far as search and seizure, I crossed into the US from a day visit to Mexico some years back. I had a truck camper and Border Patrol searched it. They didn't have a warrant and I don't think they need one.
      Thanks for your kind words and for watching!

    • @Kevin_In_Alaska
      @Kevin_In_Alaska Před rokem

      You are so very welcome, Liz! Crossing the border and dealing with Customs is a very different matter. Customs does have Federal standing to search to allow entrance across the border. That’s kind of an “oh well gotta get home” state of mind. Like you, I never carry anything illegal anyway, but don’t feel comfortable allowing people to enter my RV.
      Once in the Yukon, we were stopped by the RCMP who were looking for an escaped prisoner near Lake Teslin, but I had NO problem with them doing a cursory search for him. 😉

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Před 7 měsíci

      Consider getting an older well built one. It's only the new RVs that are (deservedly) getting a bad reputation. So it's not a good time to buy new, but trailers and fifth wheels built in 2019 and before tend to be well-built. The motorhome sweet spot is 2002 to 2008. Whatever you buy, join the Facebook group of the model to get the scoop from owners. And always get an inspection. Another advantage of buying used is the seller has typically gotten the kinks out. Thanks for watching.

    Hi liz...good information...Washington state law..5 car pull over is a bunch of crap... Especially if you're doing the speed limit... We stay off of the West Coast because of too many political stupid things going on... Don't let anyone search your vehicle without probable cause... In other words make them get a warrant.... We have some friends that are making the Alaska trip and it's absolutely gorgeous territory up there... We have never done it and we're looking forward to making the trip one day... As an Alaskan who travels around the state, sometimes towing, sometimes not, I STRONGLY support the 5 car pullover law. We often get very long lines of cars stuck behind tourist RVs and it is extremely dangerous. And I prefer “prevailing rate of traffic” as opposed to the speed limit. Some places the two are close, other times they are not. At the end of the day that line of cars backed up wishes to travel at a faster rate than you. Unless you are law enforcement, it is best to simply let them by for your safety and for the safety of others.

    Hi Liz. I love your videos. I've been following you since the beginning. I bought the 260RD because of your review. Anyway, this is my 3rd year traveling full-time as a solo woman and I made a big change. RV'ing is expensive even with finding the cheapest national forest campgrounds. The cost of maintaining and buying fuel for my diesel truck is close to 2700.00 a month. I bought Starlink so I had internet for my job and that was another 150.00 monthly. So... I made a big change and I'm now camp hosting at a nice RV park in Montana near Yellowstone. My costs have been cut in half and I can explore Yellowstone, Glasier, and the Grand Tetons throughout the summer. Everyone needs to do what works for them. I always feel safe traveling as a woman. People in the camping world are very helpful and love to hear my story about traveling solo in a larger RV. I'm not stopping anytime soon. Be well and keep making videos.

    We pull over always when1-going the speed limit and under during curves or any other reason. Consider it good PR and consider it courteous- road rage reducing. I've seen people get pretty frantic when trapped behind a slow driver of any type, including passing logging trucks on double yellows in the snow over the Sierras. Just a good idea to reduce being a factor. If there is a wreck good chance the slow driver will be involved. BUT only when safe to pull off AND get back on the road.
    2- We pull over always ASAP when going slower- and even if it's one car. I think it makes for better relations between drivers and also reduces road rage that can be misdirected, and reduces EVERYONE'S stress. Many people cut off others or speed too fast to make up lost time behind slow drivers.
    We were stuck behind one slow vehicle after another for almost 150 miles and an extra hour and a half just 2 days ago going to Reno for a family death. Others in the line did some dangerous things out of frustration. It did cause a LOT of stress on our part being held up so far.. went I-5 back, much more relaxing than constantly going slow then slower then up to slow constantly changing speeds as they chatted on the phone or changing accelerator pressure. Average was 10-15 miles under the posted limit in dry weather before the snowy part which was actually freeway then. THEN people were trying to beat the incoming snow and road closure going 80-90mph in the wet, with flakes falling and sticking on the roadside, . I kid you not. The fact they could pass the trucks and campers I'm sure made for a lot less stress. I saw NO road rage behaviors EXCEPT when near home and on the no passing LONNNNGGGGGG roads.
    3- The DMV handbook lists slower than the flow of traffic as a hazard along with speeding faster than the flow of traffic.
    so- we pull over regardless of vehicle but ONLY when safe to pull off AND on. Sometimes off is ok but getting back on lacks visibility due to curves and traffic speeds,

      @LizAmazing  Před rokem

      Sounds like a good system, thank you for this! So sorry you lost an hour and half due to a slow driver. My problem is I'm usually a first timer on the roads so I don't know where the pull-offs are. I do very much appreciate it when they give 1/4 to 1/2 mile notice of an upcoming turnout. Thanks for your comment !

    It would be really interesting if you could make a video (or talk about this issue in a Q&A) on the legislation with respect to building camper vans by individuals who want to live in them. In many countries inspection by transit authorities is absolutely required prior to hitting the road, but it seems that in the US there is some kind of flexibility as I see many van-dwellers building vans without much concern. Congrats on your very informative channel! 💐

    Me and my wife do a LOT of camping in the summer/fall. We go to quite a few parks. We have never felt unsafe. I admit that there is always the chance for something to happen, and for that reason I have my trusty .380 automatic with me. A lot of the places we camp either have park police, state police or really good campground security that make regular rounds and as I have said we have always felt safe. On a small side note, NEVER let police search your camper/trailer/RV without a warrant. Never. Best of luck.

    Boy you’re brave and strong! We have a 35’ mh and tow a jeep. There’s no way I can hook and unhook plug-in and unplug everything that needs to be done without the help of my husband. I tried one day and messed my back up for two months. Plus, there’s too much electronics that go haywire that my husband is has to fix or adjust. I applaud you. I had planned to take occasional trips with a girlfriend or two but after my first attempt and messed up back I gave up. I bought a truck camper that I can easily drive and function. I thought about joining a caravan of ladies and rvs but wondered where would I search for like-minded travelers if I left hubby at home once and a while? Recommendations ?

    Okay I'll leave my experience, back in the 90's I had a hot rod I was really proud of. My mother and I reupholstered the interior of the whole car with a kit that was expensive at the time, I got pulled over and the cop asked to search my car and I just didn't have anything so I said yes, so he handcuffed me and sat me in the ditch while he searched my car. While he was crawling around in my car he ripped my seat and messed up my door panel and he wasn't liable for anything he damaged because I gave him permission. I've never given cops permission to search anything since and I suggest you not let them either a friend was hauled in for a bloodtest over sawdust an officer saw in a new travel trailer. There was even a cop planting drugs down in Florida on people to make himself look better that got away with doing it for a long time. Make them get a warrant, the more people do that the less suspicious refusing a search will seem.

    Hey Liz. The law I would change would be the one where you had to have a permanent sticks and bricks address to get things like your drivers license. I know there are companies that do this for you but it would be nice if governments didn’t require it. I feel like we’re playing a game where we and the government pretend we live in a sticks and bricks but both of us know that we don’t.

      Yes! South Dakota is the best for setting up a domicile. You just have to stay one night every five years. But it's so aggravating that banks often need a "home" address. And my cellular company refused to send a new sim card anywhere but to my address on file. So frustrating! Thanks for watching, Peggy!

    Liz, you’ll always “feel safe” until it’s too late. Predators don’t advertise or give away their intentions very often, however, you need to get back in touch with your gut instincts, your sixth sense, at detecting when something isn’t quite right, and trust that feeling and taking action as needed. In furtherance of what I’m saying, I’d recommend reading The Gift of Fear by Gavin De Becker. Buy or borrow from a library. It’s a book I highly recommend.

    Nice site, easy listening to. Everything I've seen so far has it correct. If you are stopped nobody gets to look or step inside your RV. Your RV is your sanctuary you control it and nobody walks in. They have to have a search warrant which police will have trouble getting. It can also be handing at times to have a lawyers phone number on your phone. Also people should be prepared to protect themselves and there are many ways of doing that but they need to be at arms reach. I'm a firearms trainer, have trained over 2000 women to shoot a hand. A gun isn't everything but its an option, your choice. Shooting is fun! If your curicosity is up let me know I'll send a very short shooting video. I'm in OR and do a bunch of photography. I live in WA state and do appreciate the *5* car law but I’m not an RV’er. I find that most large RV’s drive well below the speed limit on windy two lane highways so traffic gets backed up pretty fast. I’m never in a hurry to get to my destination so don’t mind being behind RV’s in fact it’s slow semi trucks that annoy me the most.

    Hello Liz... My favorite laws to change regarding RV travel would be limits on semi-trucks... California is whacky enough but at least we have 55 mph speed limits while towing and do not allow semi-trucks to travel in the "fast lane"... In spite of this, most truckers hold their rigs to 65 mph or less and limit their travel to the right-hand lanes... Many other states do not place similar restrictions on trucks... These idiots are driving 75 mph or more in the fast lane and expect you to get out of the way for them... This makes all vehicular travel a challenge and more dangerous no matter what you're driving or how carefully you drive... Thanks for asking...

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Před rokem

      Hi Joe! I like the 55 mph in California since I don't drive fast. Typically the truckers follow the speed limit (or at least on the 10) so I very much appreciate them not roaring past me. It's crazy fast in Montana and North Dakota where the speed limit is 80 with no limits on trucks. Thanks for watching and for your comment.

      @@LizAmazing I clean up vehicle crashes in Nevada.
      ALWAYS encourage people to pass you whether you are going the speed limit or not. You have NO idea who is behind you and if they are getting frustrated or not. People who are frustrated are willing to take a chance on passing you even if it's dangerous. You're MUCH better off having them pass you and on their way.
      The less people around you, the safer you are.
      So do what you safely can to help people pass you and go AWAY!
      I like being (safely) passed with or without such laws. Passing can be very dangerous for everyone. The passee and the passer.

    As for searching your RV or car the answer is NO! There was a guy I went to high school with. The Police pulled him over one day while I just happened to be in a parking lot watching. This all happened about 20 yards from me. They wanted to search his car. He had nothing to hide and said yes. They removed his seats, the carpet, door panels, the liner from his trunk and his spare tire. They threw everything on the side of the road. When they couldn't find anything they told him to get his "shit" off the side of the road or they would charge him for littering and left. He just stood there with his jaw on the pavement. So no. Never let them search your vehicle and never open your safe for anyone without a warrant. You do have a right to privacy.

    All these comments about vehicle search are correct, but Homeland Security and Border Patrol,INS can search your vehicle without a warrant and that includes some distance from a border crossings, there are specific set of guidelines for the duties of the agents. and being disrespectful or disruptive can result in detainment and arrest. You don't look like it's part of your personality to be anything but cooperative with law enforcement regardless of agency but people need to understand that there are different rules for different agencies and even if you didn't cross a border and you are near one situations can arise

    Recently found your channel and subscribed. Good topics and I love that you get to the point and great pace. I would never let anyone search my vehicle. A couple of years ago I was pulled over on CHRISTMAS morning at roughly 07:00 A.M. I wasn't close to speeding and I had no idea what I was being stopped for. He said they are doing commercial enforcement. I have that background so I told him I know you ran my non commercial plate and you know exactly who I am and my spotless record. I then asked him if he stopped me because he had some questions in the field of commercial travel that he needed help with. Now I asked extremely nicely with a smile on my face but he sure didn't expect that. I further stated that I am a crash prevention expert and would be glad to talk about crash prevention. He said no he was good. I asked him if he was going to be able to spend some time with family this Christmas? He wished me a nice day. I later found out that a few hours earlier in I think Virginia someone had set off a bomb inside a RV. Now it made sense. Sorry for the long comment.

      Wow what a crazy experience, and at Christmas, too! I should have mentioned in my video that some years ago I was stopped and had my truck camper searched. I had no choice bc we were coming across from a day trip to Mexico. Border Patrol can search you with no warrant needed.

    No one should ever be allowed inside your home without a search warrant that is something I believe you should never give up never give that right up Make them go through the right hoops to be able to rummage through your personal items
