I saw Swervedriver in 93 Montreal - they opened for smashing pumpkins- They were sonically so focused - they pulled me into their world -
The Pumpkins played a very underwhelming and loose set -
Next day I went out and bought Mezcal Head - maybe a top five 90’s album- definitely top ten -

I heard ‘Son of Mustang Ford’ on the radio in early 92 and had to get a copy. I don’t think there’s a single bad song on the album. This bands sound is genius. I understand how not everyone gets shoegaze, but I think it’s beautiful. I think Hendrix would have loved it.

Cool finally seeing Swervedriver play, and from 1993 nonetheless! I discovered them while at the Off Ramp (a grunge venue with a pub in back) in Seattle, and after a show they had the Mezcal Head CD playing on their soundsystem. I don't remember which songs were playing (Duel, Blowin' Cool, or Harry & Maggie? not sure) but I bought the CD. Over here Stateside they weren't really big, didn't get a lot of airplay, more of a word of mouth thing. But it's great seeing what the buzz was really all about.

@@ScottishTeeVee Just to clarify, I'd unfortunately never seen them actually live in person. It was a local band that had been playing at the Off Ramp, and when I hung around the pub afterwards the bartender had the Mezcal Head CD playing over the bar's sound system, and I asked him who the band on the CD were, and he told me about Swervedriver. That's why it's so cool to see a vid like this. It's enough like being there. Thanks again for posting the video.

They did tour the States with the Pumpkins and I think Soundgarden. So they gained a lot of US fans that way. Adam Franklin plays incredibly difficult guitar parts while soloing. Most guys that do vox typically have easier guitar duties but he's doing arpeggios and all kinds of wild stuff while he's playing.
I think it's less obvious because their music isn't "flashy" but it's so intricate.
