I wish Butch had the OST on. The Inactive Lava Zone theme tends to jump scare players when it begins. Sometimes you’ll hear it in the Blood Kelp zone too.

Yeah I've commented it on most of his videos, but I doubt he's seen them... its very strange that he's opted to turn off in game music, and edit in ambient music for most of the playthrough. I get editing in some epic music when approaching progression or unlocking a cool new item or something that he was finally looking for... But man, the Subnautica OST is so damn good and beautifully crafted around the in game environments and encounters.
Maybe he does it so its simpler to edit in music in post, and so he decided to just fill the inbetweens with ambient stuff.
Iunno... it really bugs me lol. Especially BECAUSE he's editing in music, so he understands how important music is during key moments.
What I love with this theme is that it's made to make you feel like you're under an immense pressure from both depth and the danger the inactive/active lava zone is giving, those beatings from the ost you hear sometimes feels like it's your own pulse beating loudly because of the crushing depth of the water. Top tier music.
Also 14:28, have you ever scanned the GIANT skull to your left there? It reveals some really awesome lore. Don't worry, giant sperm won't bite, too hard.

please scan and read everything! u didnt read many data entries, including some which are probably marked as read!
also, scan both types of pipes in the pipe room in that facility. also scan the peepers inside the aquarium, and open every gate in that facility.
u should also look around the aquarium there, especially in the edges of it but closer to the top, as there is a small secret there.
also u can explore the bottom passages of that aquarium...
This game is absolutly emotional..from hating everything in the ocean and fear of the unknown to an emotional rollercoaster ride where you discorver Home and memories and an ancient civilization covered in sadness...why am I sad about the Sea emperor :c

12:24 if you DID wanna try another time, maybe too late though, there is a huge entrance in the north eastern part of the map, just east of the GUN island. It's the first entrance you ever took to the Lost River too, back by where you first went total legend mode and fought the Ampeel. :)

I was so looking forward to Butch meeting the Sea Emperor. Her story is truly breathtaking and sad at the same time.
@@thatsroughbuddy- Yes! My heart broke for her when she tells us how she tried asking to be let out, but they couldn't understand her. She wanted to play, but they played alone. And then they left. She's been alone for so, so long. I swam with her for ages, I just didn't want to leave her. I hatched two Cuddlefish and brought them to her for company. And nothing felt like it was enough, and it killed me everytime I left the facility.
@@ancatdal also knowing she spent so much time in there alone and once her young hatch and she'd have company, she goes to rest. It must be a relief for her but also I felt so sad for her.
@@thatsroughbuddy- It's the cruelest thing! Imagine briefly having love and companionship once more, only to have to let it go for their sake, so they can have the freedom denied you. She displays such selfless love despite all she has been through, truly the hero of the story.
My first encounter with thr seadragon forced me to defend myself. After that i fought them off every time.

The whole Sea Empress reveal is probably one of my favourite narrative events in a game ever, from the jumpscare of her popping up, to the initial wonder of seeing her swimming around, to the hatching of her young, honestly makes me emotional thinking about it now. A+++ story event

Oh so THAT'S how that glitch works? I figured it was triggered by the story while in the Sea Emperor containment so that you wouldn't have to think about it for a while. But that's good to know.

You have no idea how close you were to losing your prawn suit😅 when the warper attacked you inside the mountain, the suit takes damege quite quick on the lava floor🔥

The tablets really crush the progression at the end.
Go there, head back, go there, head back, go there, head back. Even when you plan for everything, it just throws that wildcard called the Blue Tablet.
I was really lucky to have all the tablets I needed in my first playthrough, at least by the latter end of the game. I got paranoid after needing one very early on and just carried them in my inventory or my Cyclops everywhere I went, just in case.
I do agree that their presence can be irritating, especially if you've not needed to use one for a while and forgot you have them.
When butch got warped out of Lawn Fruit over the edge I legit shouted, thinking Lawn Fruit would drop straight into the lava. What were the odds of her landing on one of the stabilizing arms. holy shit 😁
I have not been so genuinely giddy and excited watching a playthrough in a while. Watching you go through the motions and seeing all of these creatures for the first time has been such an enjoyable time. It brought me back to remembering just how much I fucking adore this game! I cannot wait to see your reactions to what's to come, but I am genuinely gutted that it's almost over. I can't stop smiling!

8:12 me laughing hysterically on the inside. I can't help but soak in the devastation 25:19. Also It's a good thing you didn't bring the Cyclops with you. The cyclops tends to draw more aggro because of how loud it can be. With the upgrades to the prawn you are very maneuverable
And the Sea Dragon is the size of Godzilla. 112 meters long. I believe the model for it used to be a little bigger as well but they had to scale it down a little because of clipping problems.

Butch I just wanna say, I too have a core memory about the sea dragon but not from my first encounter with it, but rather in my first hardcore playthrough and I was travelling through there not finding the sea dragon when I looked up and I saw the dragon was right above me. I panicked boosted the prawm straight up and I shot to above the sea dragon. I then used the grappling gun and it attached to the back of the sea dragon and next thing I knew, I was riding the sea dragon and it couldn't reach me. I rode that sea dragon right to the next area. My core emotion from that was first panicked fear but that became wonder when I realized I was no longer in danger on the back of a sea dragon.
Mate, I love that getting chased by the Sea Dragon finally lead you the active lava zone. I mean whatever works, Good Job!
ah you have met the leviathan sea dragons. They are twice as long as a reaper..... They are the biggest predator in this game.
The ghost leviathans eating only microscopic plankton, their aggressiveness comes from their territorial behavior.
44:20 I think everyone jumped the first time we heard the facility containment lights go on.
You have a lot of entrances to the lost river, just so you know, and some fit the sub. some even descend right into the lava zone.
I was about to give you some cyclops piloting tips, but looks like you don't need them ;)
You can tilt the vessel up to 90° in order to get through difficult passages : as long as the front of the ship can go in the hole, the tail should follow. It is way more ballzy to go in there with the prawn, because of the sea dragons, but you seem to have mastered its movement fairly well.
I like to think that the Sea Dragon Leviathan is hangry, because apparently from what I have learned about the game from playing it in the past, the Sea Dragon Leviathan were the predators of the Reaper Leviathan, when they would supposedly do is come out of this giant hole that the Aurora is now covering, and grab the Reaper Leviathan with the hands they have, dragging said Reaper Leviathan into the Lava Zone, killing it from what is most likely the heat, and then eating it

By the way, standing directly in lava in the Prawn Suit does damage it. You'll have to watch the integrity level. You'll see it go down quickly whenever you touch lava with it.

There are 3 other entrances to the Lost River. Blood Kelp is probably one the easiest. Red perimeter lights are collision warning.
I made my second blue tablet. Good thing you scanned it before using it.
I'm pretty sure the game gives you the blue tablet blueprint, even if you don't scan it, I just don't know what gives it to you. Because the first time I played, I forgot to scan it and used it to open the containment facility, but when I realized I needed another one, I checked and saw I had the blueprint already. It might be one of the data downloads gives it to you?

There are sea crowns in a small cave in the incubator chamber, along with a weird mutation of the peepers called an oculus. It has purple eyes and five little strings instead of a tail. Sea crowns are really hard to find anywhere else, so I recommend getting them from the incubator chamber
Actually you can go in the lava zone with the cyclops! There's multiple entrances in the lost river! You must go to lifepod 2 and you'll see a big entrance leading to the lost river!
One thing that really annoyed me with Subnautica was the fact that you don't get the plans for the Ion batteries until the very last bit of the game. Why?
I agree. Both Sub games give you all the cool stuff right at the end, when it no longer matters 😢
Yeah this is my issue with these games as well. They come in so late that you just don't get a good chance to use them... It's not _as_ bad in BZ, since you can find the blueprints for ion batteries/cells relatively early on (and I did, thankfully), but then because BZ's map is so much smaller... you don't really _need_ them. I do wish it didn't wait until the game was basically over to let me find the teleportation module though, even if it was completely unnecessary. lol

Captain butch, a tip is that the sea crown seed is somewhere where the sea emperor is contained, the other seeds can be obtained throughout the rest of the map and in fact the portals in the main room take you to an area close to them, I hope it helps you

I do hope you decide to play subnautica below zero. There’s a few things that will make your life easier in the sequel:
You’re not alone, there’s at least one NPC at the beginning
It’s more story-driven, rather than open-ended exploration, so you’ll have more distinct direction and will spend less time being wappy and making unnecessary trips, which means less exposure overall
Oh, and below zero has a leviathan proximity alarm, so sneak attacks are far less common.

4:33 there is a bug with the lighting, when your base floods there is a possibility your lights wont go back on after draining. the game saying you dont have power whiel crafting even though you do, thats a mod issue, not the game itself!

40:00 You are SO lucky you didn't lose your prawn suit to the terrain glitch there. I've lost my prawn suit there to that base's terrain bug on two separate runs now, as each one was so many years apart I had forgotten about that nasty bug. If it gets stuck right, no amount of use of commands or mods or tools will get it out. All you can do is build a new prawn suit.
Ive gotten it stuck. And let me tell you
The warp command
Location tp commands
Fcs quantum teleporter pad
Pickup command
Propulsion cannon enhancements
And many others will work

Great episode. You can use the portals in the big room over the „aquarium“. They take you to the seeds. All but one, the last is in the sea emperors tank

I have watched 6 or 7 playthrus of this, my favorite game, this is one of my favorites, and also I have never seen anyone just straight up SKIP making a base in the lost river! I usually make my 2nd just past the big fancy tree where the vents are, park the cyclops there with the thermal charger, then when I'm ready drive it down into the end of the inactive lava zone and prawn from there. Great job Captain Butch o7

Hi Butch I just wanted to say I love your Subnautica playthrough not 'because it's scary'. I enjoy it because it is so incredibly interesting to see someone play a game with so much discovery, blind. I dont want you to feel like you need to niche into horror games. But please do play more games with exploration and discovery, that is what I personally would love (obv i dont speak for everyone lol)

I love how seemingly nobody told him that he never had the Cyclops Hull Reinforcement Module installed. He kept saying it so confidently after he picked up the data card blueprint as if it automatically installed itself but he still had to craft and install the other modules.

When you said that there was nothing huge or that scary in the lava zone i legit laughed so hard and loud. The sea Dragon is twice the size a reaper and "breathes" fire (chews and spew lava), but is very slow. I started playing my first ever run as the same time you, and scanned every leviathan (and every being).
ah yes the infamous blue tablet got another one, don't forget to scan the sea emperor that it will explain why she doesn't attack.

I love the subnautica endgame, your reaction was chefs kiss. Sorry for you to have been so scared of the sea emperor, she's a badass mama. The precursors, or The Architects, how the game call the aliens were being decimated by the khaara infection, there's a pda that says that killed hundreds of BILLIONS. It's genocide, probably for a lot of marine species on the planet too, that was left in quarentine to die. Only the sea emperor had immunity, and was thinning out, as species. So the experiements are immoral and antiethic. But they were being decimated. So they have their point of view. They tried to take the cure by force, hurt her, k!lled her child when she was a sentient being, capable of understanding, felling. Tried experiements with all fauna, flora, the sea drangon skeleton in the lost river has a bump in her head, because she destroyed that facility with impact, cause her egg is inside. (That's all pdas). Your character is pacific by default, especially towards her, she knows by the beginning. And then, she does this trade, the cure for freedom. (that's just environment, pda, dialogue. No theory.)

Sea emperor makes the whole game worth it. All the anxiety and anticipation to find this karathen from aquaman 1 looking sea emperor (same voice and everything.) Only for her to be your friend who is also the biggest creature in the sea that’s alive and legit in the game
Love the time between first discovering this thing and jet skiing along behind it via the grappling arm.
