- Fanconi Anemia - Mnemonic - Pancytopenia - Bone Marrow Disease - Hematology, Pathology. Fanconi anemia (not to be confused with Fanconi syndrome) is a genetic problem “Autosomal recessive” that affects many organs especially the bone marrow causing aplastic anemia (with is actually a pancytopenia).
Pancytopenia: all blood cell lines (Red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets) are decreased causing anemia, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia.
In this disease, you have low set ear, deafness, cafe-au-lait spots (skin hypopigmentation).

Medicosis, these patients already not have enough WBC. Why do we need to give them immunosuppressive medication? Can EPO help with Fanconi anemia?

Why do we give immunosuppressant in fanconi anemia?? As it is not autoimmune...?? Already patient is immunocompromised and all blood lines are low..then immunosuppressant is not going to worsen it?? @MedicosisPerfectionalis

What the difference between fanconi anemia and aplastic anemia?
Fanconi anemia includes aplastic anemia + other signs and symptoms.

Fun fact: not all of these symptoms are present in my body. I have fanconi anaemia and I'm about to have a bone marrow transplant. I have no deformities whatsoever. I'm an interesting case.
