Interesting choices that I don’t think are quite accurate. I have lived in Kelowna for over 20 years and I know that it is not that cheap to live here. As a matter of fact it is catching up to Vancouver. My son moved back to Kelowna from Japan with his family in 2020. They lived with me for two years, but ended up going back because they could not afford to get their own place. Now, you did not even mention Winnipeg, where I come from. I have been seriously considering moving back because it is so much cheaper there. A house that costs $800,000 in Kelowna can be found in Winnipeg for about half that. Groceries are cheaper, gas is cheaper, utilities are cheaper, etc. I go back every few years to visit and I was actively checking housing prices online less than 6 months ago so I am very familiar with the cost of living difference. Also, Kelowna has the worst transit system. You really need a car to get to certain neighbourhoods and some routes do not even run on Sundays. I grew up riding the bus in Winnipeg so I was quite shocked at how bad it is here.

Everything you say is spot on. Kelowna is definitely not a cheap place to live. I'm lucky that I moved here years ago so my rent is "Grandfathered" which means only a small increase each year. Anyone moving here now would pay double. Also the traffic is often awful. The only day it's not too bad is Sundays when I run most errands.

Quebec looks cheap, but unless you are dirt-poor they'll make up for the cheaper rent with higher taxes. Western Europe is no better than Canada. There are many cheap places in the United States: a crappy, boring town in the midwest or southeast costs half of what a similar town would cost in Canada and the weather is warmer.

Your have to take into account a lot of other issues when thinking living here. To live in some places that have "cheap rent" there are no jobs. In Quebec and within it, Montreal you must speak fluent French and it is even illegal to put up signs in English. Ontario has a health system you pay via taxes whereas Alberta you pay for your healthcare and if you are not working you are on welfare, you get a bare minimum health care. To spend one day in hospital you are looking at $2,000.00. We live in Toronto, Ontario, yes the most expensive place, but we have extensive health needs and all the specialized hospitals are here. To move out of the city, there are no doctors taking on patients. So go figure. You have to have money to live here and not expect to have tons on of any luxuries. British Columbia has a big illegal drug problem. Just do a proper fact finding job first. Setting your priorities for living here is a must.

I’m surprised you forgot Windsor Ontario ( metro pop 300,000), at this most southern tip of Canada! It’s not cheap, no places are , but it is definitely reasonable by Canadian standards, tons of things to do your five minutes across from Detroit Michigan ( metro pop. 4.45 million) which has rebounded beautifully with everything you possibly could want in a large city with pro-sports shopping , great restaurants, theaters, museums, world class concerts, huge international airport and five minutes are back at home. Windsor itself is a nice town/ city. Best weather in Ontario by a mile.

IDK where you got your info for NB but it is not true LOL Rent is well over $1000 for a 1 bedroom. We pay more as our government (PC Higgs) has done nothing to keep up with health care or schools and even our roads are getting very bad. I'm not sure where you got this info or it is a few years old. Have a great day

Dead wrong about Kelowna. Totally unaffordable, zero rentals, $4000 a month decent house IF,you can find one. Major forest fire destroyed the beauty. Aug 2023. some bad attitudes there too, clique.
Winnipeg is half the cost, Brandon even better.
