When I was a kid, cutting up masking tape and covering the windows and wheels of my Matchbox cars, then brush-painting them with Testor's paint, had I seen one of Marty's videos, my head would have exploded. These restorations have elevated the hobby to the level of high art. Congratulations, Marty. Oh, and I also love the 'behind the scenes' clips where you drop stuff, hurt yourself with a tool, or swear like a truck driver over failed procedures. You make all of this accessible without the least bit of pretension.

I'm 66 years old and seeing that beautiful work on that transport with those shiny period cars, gave me some little heart pangs. Well done mate.
Oh mate! nice, nice, nice. After 32 years in a truck I do have a soft spot for them.
Love this casting/ model myself. I have a ol photo of me on my first birthday with this car transporter 50 plus years ago!!

Here is a tip. When you are spraying the color. Have a cloth rag nearby so in between sprays you can put the can down and clean the can tip clean. It starts to build up and can over spray drops into your projects. I sometimes swap can tips. Some just spray better for me. Not sure if that will help. Keep up the good work. 😁🔥🔥

I have to stop at 8:34 while you are talking about being a perfectionist, I am totally with you, my minds eye, my imagination sees how I want something to be. I am finding my skill does not match, and to me that is ok, I have to be ok with it and let my skill become greater. It takes practice, and you have much more practice than I. Hi Rob. I just love when you guys, all you Matchbox restores, do the big trucks. I love the trucks, and the tractors, and all the heavy equipment stuff. I think that color is pretty right on for that casting. I was kind of hoping you were going to do the other four cars all at once too but, that's a lot of work. Bravo.

Beautiful, thanks so much . I have very old Matchbox ,I treasure, but never saw this model . I have the Ford Wagon , but wish I had the 57 Cadillac. I do own the Models Of Yesteryear Cadillac, and 1964 mint Ambulance, in my mint Fire House . Again, wonderful work ,I love these treasures.

Hi Rob, You've inspired me again. Just placed a bid for one on ebay after watching this vid. So, I'll do my best with it because I know that I'll win it! It won't be as good as yours I'm sure but I'll do my best. Thanks for the info for the paint etc. Let me take this opportunity to congratulate you on your superior video's, never give up doing them as I wouldn't have anything else to look forward to (apart from my wife of course!!!). I built myself a hobby shed in the garden 20x10 but only seem to find a couple of hours on a Sunday to enjoy it, work commitments :(.

Nice work on the 1957-1962 Matchbox Car A-2 Transporter it looks nice now! the other car transporter from the 1970's I think you were talking about was the Matchbox K-10 Car Transporter or the other Matchbox Car Transporters that are in the Matchbox Wiki.

Amazing. I never saw any of the big Matchbox toys as a kid, only the regular cars--it wasn't until I started watching restoration CZcams that I learned about the King Size and Major Pack lines. Makes me want to go back and alert my child self, except he wouldn't know what I was talking about (you can watch videos on a worldwide network of computers? what?) and my parents would probably call the police. :)
That first-coat relief effect did look really cool. I can understand why you didn't want it on this particular model, but maybe someday you'll run across a casting that it works with.

Hi Rob, ive just purchased one of these from e bay in pretty nice original condition, 12 quid inc postage, had to have it after seeing yours!
the truck looks great. the color is a great choice. you should try a lite sanding on the primer coat to give the top coat some tooth to bite into. edges and corners are hard to get paint on to bit tends to pull away from the edges
The finished product is amazing! Maybe someday you can have your work in a museum!

Donating some of your restos/customs to a museum is a great idea, or you could auction them off and donate the funds to your favorite charity organization
outstanding restoration ROB your best yet lesney never went to that much trouble regarding the glove situation I use non latex disposable with extra feel{nice} when I am spraying they last a long time and are easy to put on and take off worth a try available from most chemists. keep up the good work best regards.

Nice resto...I had that hauler as a kid in the mid 60's..it hauled a lot of cars for hundreds of miles.... if I'd known as kids where the value would go on these.. I'd have bought 2 ..1 to store and the other would definitely gotten it's usage as they usually did 😊👍

We truckers call that a "portable parking lot."
I had two of these. One is now in Australia but the other one will be restored by me. If it turns out half as good as yours, I'll be well pleased.

Drop your axles in a mixture of 50/50 white vinegar and water overnight and the rust will be gone. Still might want to shine them up a little afterwards.

Awesome job Rob! I've been waiting for this resto since the unboxing video with this casting, the slightly darker blue and your other changes definitely look better than factory in my opinion.
Nice little easter egg in the video to have the unrestored truck with the unrestored cars and vice-versa, I'm sure most of us picked up on that before you mentioned it.
That paint issue you mentioned is common when you have sharp angles on the painting surface (most commonly 90 degree angles) it's due to the surface tension of the paint causing a thinner layer where the angle is sharpest (usually right in the corner of the angle).
