In this video I restored a 1980 Mighty Tonka Dump Truck. I bought this dump truck from a nice older lady on Facebook marketplace. She said that it had been rusting away for years in her backyard. This one had a unique challenge, repairing bullet holes. I had a lot of fun, I hope you enjoy. Thank you for your support!

Yeat's Tonka before fame
This brings water to my eyes. I remember all the fun times as a child playing with this exact truck. Awesome job bruh.
I had this as well. I ran it up and down the driveway for hours, leaning over it, hands on the rear bucket sides, it was kind of like a hand-skateboard.
The toy that gave me stitches. We met again!

Same
Same here. I got it brand new when I was just a touch too big to ride in it (didn't stop me from doing it anyways). Those things were tough. Tonka Tough.
I was born in 1976. So growing up during the time I can say that this exact truck was literally in every sandbox I ever played in. It practically lived in kids sandboxes or just a permanent residence somewhere in the back yard. Which of course is how it ended up looking the way it did in the beginning. That brings back memories.

Beautiful resto. I thought this one was beyond saving. These videos bring back fond memories of my childhood in the 1960's - Tonka, Nylint, and Buddy L metal trucks and construction equipment. Nice to see these brought back to life.
I just want to say Thank You! I have severe PTSD, and when I'm having a "Bad Day" I watch your videos over and over. I don't know why they calm me down, but they DO. So to you, your just restoring a old toy, but to me it gives my broken brain some peace. Semper Fi!
Stay strong man! I believe my cousin suffers from PTSD from being in Iraq.
Same here, I also have PTSD and experience the same thing.
I can t begin to imagine what you go thru, all I can offer is my respect and hopes that things get better. Just saying
" Thank You For Your Service." isn t enough. Allow this USN "squid" to thank you and stay strong my brother in arms.
God bless you, my son has that. Prayers
@@pumpkin6429 It's just as easy to stay silent instead of risking being extremely disrespectful to someone who's sacrificed a lot for your right to say stupid things. Maybe they're lying, maybe they aren't, but to me this just seems like a person trying to thank someone else who helps them...simple as that.
The way you painted the tire letters white was freaking brilliant. And the final product looks amazing, nice job!
Nic M I agree that was really cool.
I was thinking what the heck is he doing. Ohhhhhhhhh, brilliant!
Yea that tire trick was genius
Came here to comment the same thing. Very clever solution.
my mom just found the one I had when I was a kid out in her shed--I'm 47 so it's most likely a mid-70's model, and it is still in great shape except for some rust in the dump bed. I was worried that restoring it might depreciate some of the value, but hell--I love this and think I'll do something similar. great video!!!
Go for it!
Great job! The tonka dump truck is one of my all time favorites. Love to watch them old toys revived.
This is my kind of ASMR. No music, no voice over, just right. 🙂
1:27 what about this part lol
I remember getting this exact same truck for Christmas when I was a little kid.
Brings great memories.
Sable Liger ha ha me too, God we are old😂😂
Ditto!
I had this one too lol. I also had a big crane one, they were awesome.
Hey guys, that's incredible, i got it during the Christmas Day 1976. I'm french. So this '' toy truck'' travelled a lot in the past.
Sable Liger same here
Every kid in my era had or knew someone who had this Tonka truck.
I had one of these. When I was 6 years old I was laying on my back and holding the truck above my head, studying the bottom of it when I dropped it on my face. After bleeding all over myself, the truck, and my mom I ended up with three stitches right above my right eye. Loved that thing. The truck that is.
I had the exact same truck maybe in '78 or '79 when I was about nine or ten years old. Used to sit on it and ride it down a hill in my neighborhood. That's how tough our toys were back in the day.
Im a 90's kid and we had similar trucks only from plastic and used to sitting on it and a parent was pulling without any problems. I loved that so much.
Ditto! Exact same truck in the video for me. I rode that thing down my hill hitting jumps and all. Here I am some 40yrs later a big rig truck driver because of this exact same tonka truck!
I had this one and a front loader, both survived numerous jumps from.my garage roof.
@@nintendosegaplushmasters9109 LMAO!
@@baykrawler you're living the dream 🤘
Absolutely brilliant to watch. I love the sand blasting and watching the powdercoat turn to paint. Thanks for sharing this.

Isnogood12 Literally dude. And I’m not even ashamed about it.
Oh my god I remember owning this as a kid, never saw one this brand new. Thanks for the flashbacks and happy memories!
Such a throw back!! 70s kids had these! They were basically indestructible! Fantastic restoration!!! Thank you!!!
Indestructible doesn’t even begin to describe these old Tonka trucks. I used to live on a hill, and would sit on my Tonka dump truck and ride it down the hill.
Man... I was in tears at the end of the video. So many memories came back to my mind... when times were not that complicated. So many hours of great fun playing with Tonkas. Nicely done. Thank you. 😄
True
I agree; from a piece of $h!t to a piece of art, some lil' kid's gonna LOVE that truck!
I'm from the Twin Cities area and I toured the plant in Minnetonka when I was a boy scout. All my friends had at least one of these things.
A TIME WHEN KIDS USED THERE IMAGINATIONS!
I had this dumptruck! We used to ride it down the driveway. Brilliant restoration, especially painting the sides of the wheels!
That Tonka had been loved and played with.
You gave that Tonka the love it needed to restore it to its former glory.
Great job and it even had 1 final play
Freaking incredible!!! I had one of these as a kid and played with it through 6th grade. (From preschool). It was awesome and held up to a lot of abuse. Bravo to you for bringing one back to life!!
I love the comments from people who recall having this toy as a child and seeing it restored to it's former glory. It's so heartwarming
When I was a kid my brother had this truck and I had the backhoe. Lots of fun!
@@NickCharabaruk Wow! What a coincidence. The same with me and my brother! I actually had the farm loader with backhoe. I still have them
Awesome. I got this truck for my 5th Bday 1988. Today, my 4 year old son plays with it!
I got my dad's tonka truck
Man we're getting old, back when toys were made of metal. I had the one with the scooper. Good times.
I got one very young as well (and a dozer), I was born in 88, probably got it super early 90s. My boy is almost 3 now and plays with it. Still in great shape.
I wish I still have mine 😢 I was given one in 1989 ( I was 5 ) but my dad threw it away when I broke one of the tires. My 10 month old son would be using it by now if I still had it.
@@boricuadude26 The feeling is mutual. My mother on occasion liked to "clean out" the old cloths and toys, man how I miss those dinorider toy series lol
The best Restore channel on YT, Gosh i can watch your sandblasting like whole day. The best restoration so far. Great work
You should check out The Really Random channel as well. I think you would like it!
@@alastairbutterworth3495 Thanks, and yeah i like it, Thanks.
In the 70’s my Tonka was a truck, a ride on toy, a skateboard (I was 5 what would you expect), this toy was so much a part of growing up in the 70’s and 80’s (well this and a big wheel). Thank You for the video, it was a nice trip down memory lane.
I had this as a kid in the early 70's! My grandfather's horse stepped on it, but still loved that thing. It "hauled" a lot of dirt! You've got me inspired now, brother!
Had one of those as a kid (1979)...would put my knee in the bed and ride around...great memories
lol, same here
And me too. Used to love finding a big hill and riding down it with my knees in the tipper.
@@bluedimitri My brother and I did the same thing.
I had on in the late 60's
Same here. Probably around the same time to 76 to 79........still in my parents basement. EPIC MEMORIES
I love it when you fix old and rusty Tonka Toys.
This video is one of the best!
I just stumbled upon this video and it brought back some of my childhood memories. Me and my sister had one toy truck and I never used to share it with her, just as if it was all mine. One day we had a good flight over it and my dad threw it up on the loft so as to never let us play with for. But my sister somehow got it back for me and never asked for it to play with that truck ever again and I felt so guilty that I'm bringing everything she asked for, pay her bills and give her gifts, till date, no questions asked. That toy truck cost me more than a real one 😂
Seeing this restoration brought back some serious memories. I had a Tonka truck exactly like that one back in the late 1970's as a little kid. If I had the money I'd buy this one off of you. Great restoration and thanks for the memories this brought back.
When you added the "white walls" on the tires I think I actually applauded.
That solution was MacGyver grade.
I started yelling at the screen.
I literally said “yes sir!”😂😂😂
My jaw dropped
I was like “no f’ing way!”
The sandblasting removal of rust is so satisfying to watch. My brother had the same truck and would never let me play with it
My brother had it too. We could fit in the back of it. My brother is not a good person but luckily he let me play with it.
My dad gave my brother a Tonka Truck similar to this as a birthday gift when he was little. It had movable parts and was really well made. He took it to school one day and traded it for two small plastic cars. Needless to say my parents where livid. He never got another present like this ever again. 😂
Embora seja de brinquedo, parecia que o pequeno caminhão estava trabalhando de verdade, devido ao estado que se encontrava. Ficou muito boa essa restauração,parabéns!!!!!
I used to have one of these dump trucks. I'll just pretend this was mine. Thanks for fixing my old dump truck! 👍
I love how he powder coated everything that just screams quality
I love yor profile pic go Metallica
He did not took the rust out he powder coat and paint above the rust!
@@textbooksmathematicstutorials he sand blasted the rusts and old paint
@@crystaljoy4226 Yes I allready saw it on google. I do not have training or experience dealing with metal but now I know.
@kyle…..I never get tired of seeing him use the powder paint. I think its amazing.
I had one of these as a kid, I miss that sucker. I could ride in it till I was about 10.
I did the same thing!
Me too lol
I have the exact same one at my grandfathers house

Wow me too
This is the era of Big Yellow Dump Truck, I remember.
It is the 1975 version, without the late 80's cab sticker, and the chasis is black.
Spot on, and good job!
This is such a fantastic restoration job, I might have had tears in my eyes while watching! It's simply so beautiful how you give life to this old an precious toy!!! Thanks so much!
*THE* iconic Tonka truck! No matter how many of these things were made, it's always a pleasure to see a neglected piece of history receive a good bit of TLC. 8)
I've still got my Tonka truck off that same make and vintage. Best present ever, much to several aunts' horror that a LITTLE GIRL should play quite happily with trucks. It survived me, two younger siblings, countless friends and younger cousins, multiple moves, and still suits happily in our shed at the moment. It could almost certainly do with some TLC, a project for myself in the not too distant future perhaps.
I had a 1971 or 72 Tonka dump truck that saved my life when I was a kid. I was pushing It across the street and got hit by a car and the truck stuck in the wheel well of the car stopping it. Otherwise I would be dead. Years later when cleaning the house out for my m to sell I found it in the basement, my father kept it all those years knowing it saved my life. God bless Tonka !
that tire stamp was so simple and came out so nice
They're made out of plastic now...if you can even find them. I drove a million miles on my knees pushing around Tonka trucks!
I did the same, down hills too.
Hauled marbles and rocks and thought twice before I hauled a Barbie doll bed for the girl next door she repaid me with a kiss and I begin to understand there’s something women like about a pickup man
ya my son has one now and its def steel.
I still still have dirt and sand under my fingernails from playing in the sandbox -mmmm sorry - "the construction site" - 50 years ago LOL!
I use to ride mine down hills when I was little
All I can say is WOW, THAT’S TOO COOL!! It’s amazing how well a sandblasting machine works in this case. Also, having the other correct tools and the knowledge to use them, makes all the difference in the world. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful piece.
Thanks for bringing back a very cherished memory in my life! Beautifully done!
This may be your best yet! The lettering on the tyres actually made me audibly say "wow". Looks so, so good :)
I said homina ,homina, homina
the wheels couldnt be fixed?
Der Congo Mann I said “oh” as well.
@@TheCyberBOMB Define 'fixed'. If you mean made like new, then no. Once plastic has been scuffed on the ground it's not possible to return the surface to shiny new condition.

Fond memories of this truck. Took a tour of the plant that makes these, it was awesome. Also, knocked out 4 teeth pushing one of these around. The truck had a rope tied to the back. I stepped on the rope and faceplanted right into the top of the bucket. The good old days.
Oh man, in the 90's I had a Tonka truck just like this when i was a little kid, i think they had switched over to using plastic for most or all of it by then though. Most vivid memory I have of that thing is pushing it along on the beach and tripping forward, scratching my knees and putting a huge gash into my stomach that immediately got filled with sand. Good times!
Your videos are so relaxing. I always watch these when I want to take a bit of time for myself!
Me too 😊

In the 70's we called these "My first skateboard" ;')
Love the bullet hole BTW. 'Merica!
Lol
Now days kids are sheltered from guns. And when they finally get one, they use it to shoot people instead of toy dump trucks. But, this is by design so that the police have an excuse to blow away children that do have a BB gun. Things will never be the same until parents go back to parenting.
Lmfao!!!

Man, if I had one of those sand blasters in home, my skin would look fabulous
i know its a joke but what if someone really sand blasted their skin
@@jrhooman Dermatologist will run out of business

Try baking soda as a medium. Use sand, ONLY if you look like Keith RIchards or Tommy Lee Jones. Fugly!
And the powder coat primer and paint would give my skin a flawless velvet finish.
The parts I find very satisfying are the sandblasting and the painted parts which changed texture and colour in the kiln!
I just digitized a reel-to-reel film of my cousin pulling his big Tonka out of the box Christmas Day 1965. Those were real rubber tires back then with heavy gauge steal. And he still has it.

AH yes the truck I beat the loving snot out of.. Road it down the hill and the axles didn't even bend. Smash crash and hauling dirt. So many memories.
Ahh I see you to have sat in the back of the thing and went down hills and into family members ankles

The ones today are a little bit more kid friendly, but I don't think they went down in quality… at all

What we had were m80’s on 4th of July. Took the cab right off the truck.

I still have one of these toys in perfect condition. This warmed my heart. Great restoration!! 👏
Had one new as a kid. So tough my friends and I sat in the back and rolled down a steep street in it. Kids today don’t know how cool that was. Much more fun than starting at a video game.
Watching the powder paint set is so satisfying. I dont know why people hate on “watching paint dry” lol it actually is awesome
This is amazing I remember putting one knee in the back and pushing myself around in it after so long and the bad stuff is going on in my life for 10:54 minutes everything went away thank you so much
we used to ride ours down my mates steep driveway. didn't always end well.
Great job 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The way the tires were done to bring out the words in white........brilliant!!!!
I used to steal a cushion from my moms room and stuff it into the rear dumper to make a seat, I would spend an afternoon riding this Tonka Dump truck down the hill where we lived. Great days! After a few years I wore one wheel out and my dad replaced it.
Gosh... I love Tonka trucks! The first thing I thought when I saw the holes - “OMG, it’s been shot!!!” It turned out beautifully!
How can anyone shoot at a Tonka Truck?
What kid didnt have a Tonka truck they loved growing up. Piece of Americana right there.
When I was growing up I had a dirt mound and TONKA trucks..... Life was great.
I didn't realize how good I had it.
Thanks for the memory trip back❤️
... Am I the only one who sat in the back of this thing and scooted across the floor as a child?
I remember sitting in mine. I'm going to go to Mum's place on the weekend and pick it up. Feeling inspired
Did it with mine. Wasn’t a Tonka, but it was just as durable. You were not alone
I pushed my little brother around in mine Christmas 1976
I had that same truck back in the 70's, and I did ride in the back. My dad would get pissed when he had to bend the sides back into place, so I could ride in it again.
Nope, my brother and i did the same

Back in the good old days when stuff was still made out of metal!
Great restoration bravo!

Curtis Good oi brother thanks... I don't how my spelling has gotten worse lol
You have talent. I enjoy watching you restore these old pieces of our childhood as much as I did playing with these toys as a kid 👍
Born 75. I recall these. Was lucky to have one or two leftovers from my older siblings.
I recall putting my knee in the dumper and pushing myself around the yard and concrete. I was so proud to have it and play construction.
I absolutely loved it.
Later came matchbox and the little dirt city I would build all day outside. Every day a new layout, or city. End of day turn hose on and flood the river, lakes etc. Recover matchbox cars. Do it again next day. I was always dirty. With a big smile. End of effort, go get mom and say look at it today. I made this, this time, etc. She was so nice to play along, pretending to see my original vision. Ah. The good ol days. I loved it so much, I became a civil engineer. No lie. I laugh about it in interviews.
