The 747 will always be a legend and have a special place in the heart of many (if not all) aviation enthusiasts. And for a very long time it was king of the skies with only Concorde to compete for that title. Its reputation is so great that I don't view the A380 as having usurped the 747 but rather as inheriting the title as a younger natural successor, albeit built by a different company.
The 747 is Queen, King, Majesty, Wonders, Oasis, Princess and Prince...etc OF THE SKIES. There is no way in hell, no way, that an a380 could catch your eye the way the 747 does, no firkin way
Awe inspiring sight to see! What a beautiful invention conceived in & proudly built in America. We can all be so proud of this marvel... the "queen of the skies"
Still the most beautiful airplane in the sky. How can anyone call this graceful bird ugly. as for the lumbering down the runway, when you weigh in at almost 700,000 lbs you have the right to lumber a little bit , I think for it's size it gets out incredibly fast
Although I am quite a fan of Airbus,NO machine can compare to the reliability and safety that this excellent engineering marvel has to offer. The dedication that went into the designing and manufacturing this beautiful creation has exceeded the limits of expectations from Boeing and for that, I salute the people that created this engineering marvel!
First test flight is done with gear down due to possible problems with the machine. If they experience a problem and need to return, its better to leave it down and locked than maybe not being able to get it down. First flight is the most critical for a new aircraft, and there are several essential things that need to be tested before the gear. So in most cases, the gear is down during the whole forst test flight due to safety reasons, and maybe also to figure out how much drag the gear make :)
When I traveled commercially overseas, I was often on the 747-400. Great aircraft. On the other hand, I have no qualms about flying on Airbus planes. The high point of my passenger travel were three separate flights aboard the Concorde. What an experience! I have not been on a commercial plane for some time now, since our company had at first, a Gulfstream V, and now a Gulfstream 650. Just returned from a trip to Australia. Think I will settle for the Gulfstream!
Love the 747 - If you have a seat in the front the pilots are behind you and with the curve of the nose can partially see ahead-no plane like it, not even the A380 where the cockpit is forward. And yes, in the 70's many had the upstairs as a bar- They flew them on many shorter US routes than today e.g., United 218 went LAS-ORD-EWR leaving at 130P, serving dinner and dinner on each leg with an upstairs bar - ditto TWA, Northwest, American (they actually had a COACH lounge in the back 15 rows!
Thank god that people have different likes. Some like 747 the most, and other The A380... like me. But hey..... 747 is a great plane... no doubt. The Queen of the skies :)
Well the 747-8 with the new engines has about 15 to 20 % less fuel consumption so, that's a big plus. I wouldn't be happy if the 747 wouldn't fly anymore. BA better not replace them all! :)
Years ago I had an ILS rating for light twins. My two partners and I own a Lockheed JetStar which I have piloted, although not rated in it. I have also been at the controls of our Gulfstream 650, again not rated in it. Don't have my license any more, anyhow. Piloting is a wonderful experience.
during rainy days, they will keep the water, running down the fuselage, away from the entry (with doors open). If you look closely, you can see, that those "lines" follow the path of the air around the wing-root. Same "lines" can be found on other airliners as well.
it's not commonly known that the 747 is the shape that it is because the engineers back in the late '60s couldn't make a full double-decker fly with the current technology so they deleted half the upper deck to save weight...hard to believe such a brutal design change could end up so beautiful.
I remember in the early 1980's these birds used to have a full bar in the top portion. I assume the top portion is for first class clientele now. I typically only fly in the KC10's now, but I have to tell you.. with the reservist, the whole plane is a bar!
It is only those who think that a whale has a sexy eye appeal who will think the A380 has better looks than the 747. The 747 is also more fuel efficient (raked wingtips vs winglets) and the zig-zag cones fitted to the 747 engines makes the 747 less noisy than the A380.
I thought so at first too - but I think it was just the airplane leveling off after a steep climb and the parallax changed - giving the effect of the landing gear coming down again.
I used to fly round-trip once every ten days between LA and London. Loved being on Virgin's 747's in Business Class with the sit-down bar! Had some grand parties! We ran out of booze once and had to send the stewardess to steal more from Economy Class, lol.
Yeah and who was the first to be the "Big" jumbo jet? Lets see... The Boeing 747. Its the original built with passion. ps I one of those who think the A380 is a modern marvel!
And the good thing about 747-8 is that most parts are compatible with the 747-4. So that's savings right there, but also less hassling when it comes to replacing them too. Because they've been making them for years. A-380 is a very nice plane, but it is just too big. I wouldn't be surprised that some airlines say fuck it and start ordering the new 747 for future replacements.
I do not care one bit for what they say about the A-380. While I respect it and it is impressive. It has no soul! There is no jumbo jet in the world that is more beautiful and impressive as the 747. Especially the new Dash 8 variant, which might as well have the nickname "Elegance", because that's what it is.
Many reasons for keeping the grear down.. On a first test flight the crew basically dont wanna mess with the gear, since there are so many other essential tests that need to be carried out. If there is a problem its better to have the gear down than maybe not beeing able to get it down. They also test the drag of the gear, and sometimes the gear is down a long time due to brake cooling.. I also think there will be no boeing engineer to tell you "Well, we always test the landing gear during climb...". I meant that maybe there was some problem at the first retract of the landing gear (eg did not lock in retracted state or so) and thats the reason for putting it out again and play around with it. It's not standard but I think no problem for a test pilot!
The Pentagon today announced that the 747-8 is going to be the new Air Force One. Best choice EVER.
Damn straight!
i agree its beutiful plane ✈✈✈
The "Queen of the Skies" will always be just that!! She's just as beautiful today as the first one!
The 747 is a much better looking plane than the A380

Excellant video. The 747 is still a wonderful aircraft.
Wow what a freaking beauty. Such a huge airplane able to take off like that...technology really is simply amazing.

amazing 747 but the C5 galaxy is my favorite :)
The a380 is a great aircraft 2
Super quiet
Spacious
Has great capacity
There's nothing wrong with it
AGREED!! A380 is ugly. look at it straight on from the front and try not to laugh :D
Alexander Tsang i disagree
Its just a massive whale
Big does not equal ugly
the a380 is the most beautiful jumbo in the sky.
The 747 is the queen of the skies.

extremely quiet take-off. gotta love this beauty

just beautiful, the 747 is so graceful. im glad Boeing is updating the airframe and keeping it around for more time.
the 747 design is the most beautiful in the world , a 747 parket at an airport always catch eyes
Stunning aircraft and video!
It will be quite sad if Boeing stops manufacturing them. No other aircraft came so close to being so iconic. Maybe concorde came close.
The 747 is the most awsome plane ever!!! There is no other plane !
I don't know how I stumbled upon this video, but I'm glad I did. really cool. that thing is quick.

GREAT EXECELENTE TAKE OFF,THANK YOU VERY MUCH WİTH LOVE AND BEST REGARDS...
Flew to London years ago from Miami...full passenger load. Damn take-off roll lasted nearly a minute...scared the crap out of me!
Thank god that people have different likes. Some like 747 the most, and other The A380... like me. But hey..... 747 is a great plane... no doubt. The Queen of the skies :)
What a beauty...
The B47 will always be the king of the sky, more stylish and elegant, the A380 is nice, I like it, but it is only a kid that grows bigger
Gorgeous airplane. Awesome takeoff. Thanks for posting.
greatest airplane ever made. king of the sky

Its amazing how this big of an airplane can fly on the sky like a little bird. It must have a huge amount of power
I remember in the early 1980's these birds used to have a full bar in the top portion. I assume the top portion is for first class clientele now.
I typically only fly in the KC10's now, but I have to tell you.. with the reservist, the whole plane is a bar!
I think this is going to be a very successful aircraft. Loved flying on the 747 - although it was 3 times only.
It is only those who think that a whale has a sexy eye appeal who will think the A380 has better looks than the 747. The 747 is also more fuel efficient (raked wingtips vs winglets) and the zig-zag cones fitted to the 747 engines makes the 747 less noisy than the A380.
I might be wrong, but that seemed to be a very short takeoff run. I love to see the 747 in action!
Fastest and most powerful passenger jet to ever fly. Has the highest power to ratio than any other passenger plane as well.
I thought so at first too - but I think it was just the airplane leveling off after a steep climb and the parallax changed - giving the effect of the landing gear coming down again.

Thumbs up for William E. Boeing who was the creator of the Boeing Company basically the man who brought flying here today
cool video

Fabulosos despejes de 747
Wow! It's rather quiet!
lol ya. compare it to the 747-100,200 and 300. LOUD back in the day, esp with the older PW engines.
Thanks Kyle!!
Beautiful
Great video
impressive, beautifull!
Un 747-8 qui sera opéré par B4488.
When it's not loaded it has an amazing acceleration!
Awesome!!!
Awesome aircraft
Flawless powerhouse.

que buen bideo es de mis aviones favoritos
Nice video,enjoyed.
Is that the new 747 right? It seems like it has Rolls Royce engines on it!! Very beautiful plane.
so beautiful
Beautiful aircraft! Hope it fly to Sydney soon! Have subscribed.
why did the landing come out again after it was retracted?
you don't understand my words. I know that its no regular testing procedure to test the landing gear during climb stage. I also think there will be no boeing engineer to tell you "Well, we always test the landing gear during climb...".
