- Hades 2 Early Access Review - Is It a Worthy Sequel? First Impressions and Gameplay
In this video, we're gonna be taking a look at Hades 2 that just went on Early Access yesterday on Steam. And in this video, I wanna go over what my impressions are, having played it, what i like and don't like about it, how it compares to the first game and talk about whether it's worth buying in early access or waiting for the full game release.

This game will no doubt be awesome, but I don't want to play it to death in early access before it's finished.
Agreed.
Agreed.
It's gonna be really tough. But i'm waiting till 1.0. too
I hope to...
Progress is supposed to carry over on release.
@adamrice5099 we don't want to burn out on early access, we would rather enjoy it at its full potential
From what I understand Supergiant mentioned that all the Gods are returning plus the new additions.
I hope this is right. We have a few extras now, but are missing 3 originals.
I'm playing the early access now and I know myself well enough to know that I will play it so much that I burn myself out after a couple months. Then I won't touch it until the full release comes out, and then it's all pretty fresh and it's been long enough to fully start over
As many times as I've "restarted" Hades, I'm sure I won't have a problem with doing that for Hades 2.
When I played Hades 2, I thought it was already 1.0. To me I felt like there is already 1.5x the content than in Hades 1 already
Yes, SuperGiant's EA is different. I felt like 1.0 too. Going forward I'm going to treat this as online service game where they patch up contents and updates.
It really feels like a complete upgrade
Yeah, supergiant games said Hades ii early acces is already bigger than the original game
Good People! I can confirm its beautiful to play on the steam deck.
waiting for the full release , over-played the first one while EA
you say that but this one is releasing with the same content the original released with.
@@Joe_Payne so you get 4 worlds? in this one? while in early access?
@@shinren_you mean 4 save file?
@@lIlIIllIIllIlIIIIl nono like 4 areas i guess like in hades before u fight ur dad
@@shinren_ i just know that there are like 6 bosses in this early access idk about areas
I'm not at all bothered replaying the story on 1.0 release. I'm buying it now.
just started a playthrough of hades 1 today, gonna get the second one whenever im done with it!
You have a good point. I was tempted but I think I'll wait.
early access just gives me an excuse to replay it with each major update and then one more time from scratch when 1.0 releases, i would never get enough of this game
I love Hades and simply couldn't wait. I think I'll probably get to the point where I can do a run to the final boss in the early access. Then park and start a new save, will more than likely buy on console as well on release.
I was playing the first one when the second dropped lol, bought it instantly no regrets
I blasted hades 1 on early access because I was bored during covid. Eventually I uninstalled it and when the the full release came out it was i think like over a year and I had forgotten most of the minor details and came back to new story beats that were only on the full release. I started a new profile and had an even better experience than before. Such a great game(s).
Androdite. That's the one thing all the journalists were salivating over. It's refreshing to see someone actually talking about the gameplay.
I couldnt click the buy button harder. Good thing my memory sucks! Ill get to play it again for the first time when it releases
Thanks @Fextralife for the EA Review Preview of Hades 2! Going to go back myself and play the first and eagerly wait for the launch of Hades 2!
Definitley play the game now. Im at 62 hours, i unlocked the story content and progression. Just doing aspects and night fear contracts. The game has soooooooo much voicelines.
The game is already so complete as it is, minus the rest of the story and some tweaks they’ll make to gameplay (which most “complete” games do after launch anyway), think of it more like an episodic adventure. I mean, how many early access games can you say that for?
Interesting thumbnail choice 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
I simply couldn't wait to get my hands on it 😂
So Hades 2 1.0 by late spring 2025?
I'll definitely wait and buy them via Steam.
I think I’ll still grab Hades 2 now, as it’s at a good price, which they elude to going up when more content drops… so for that alone, I think it’s worth it to buy now (even if you only try it out a few times)
Does progress carry over?
I'll play a little bit more but then will wait for the full release to start q new save file
Just buy it now. Amazing so far
I never played the first one but I've heard some really good things about it. I probably need to check it out
It's on sale for less than $10 definitely try it out before buying hades II
I just reported you to the political and religious authorities....
Its one of the best games ever imo.
This genre was never really my thing but I played hades last year and it was amazing, def worth checking out
absolutely recommend it, you will have a great time
Absolutely excellent 👌
Though I'll definitely buy Hades 2 when it's much further along in development. Probably early next year on Steam.
Looking forward to it 😀😀
I love the first game so much, I like trying all kind of weird builds and trying to break out of Hell
Good considerations but I think those are really subjective. Objectively, I think this game is pretty much a 10/10 for an early access game and is absolutely worth recommending and buying. It's 26 bucks on steam or probably sub 20 USD and you're getting a game that's absolutely worth playing whether for a thirty minute run or for thirty hours trying to speed run the entire game.
Looks ok - really loved the original and put in hundreds of hours, played the full story twice!
The art has leaned into aspects that I didn't like from the original game (tumblr noses etc) - which is ok but not what I'm looking for. I think overall I'll wait for the full release.
Thanks for this video it really helped me inform my decision.
Love that thumbnail FEXTRA 👌
Aphrodite, the goddess of thumbnails
I like to buy games after release, play them once preferably for around 100 hours
although it is very tempting to buy the game now, i loved hades and was eager to have a successor, Im gonna wait for the full release.
Having played a decent amount of the early access (about 50 runs), I would definitely recommend waiting for the full release. You will quite simply get a better experience. The early access is a still a pretty good experience, but needs work and is obviously unfinished.
At this stage I can see god boons getting a fair amount of work done. They are unbalanced for sure. With some being boring or useless and some being OP. There will apparently be more gods added as well as at least one more weapon, plus more aspects. As expected you can't finish the game, not all areas exists and you also can't finish any of the relationship stuff.
The only really good reason to get early access is if you want to send a lot of feedback and ideas to the devs and help make the game better.
Still. Recommend wait for the full release. I did for the first one and its was 100% my game of the year.
I First have to play hades 1. It was on sale on steam for 8€. A no brainer fof me.
Skelly's voice actor is the same, no?
They did say In the roadmap that they aim to make saves compatible all the way to 1.0.
Is it just me or the new game feels kinda clunky? i mean i ve just started but I feel like this sprint mechanic somehow slows me down, in addition that the dodge is a bit slower this time? idk..
The first game was awesome! I’m so ecstatic for this one
It is phenomenal, Region 2, my god!!! You are in for a treat, no spoilers here.
Still have to beat the father, after gonna get hades 2 😅
I love Hades but I got it fully fleshed out. Think I'll wait because I know once I get my hands on Hades II I won't be able to stop lol
If you are on the fence, try this thought. You are afraid of playing it to death and burning out before 1.0. But if you no life it now and become that good at it, you shouldn't have any problems later in 1.0 to see what was added and bouncing afterwards. Just buy it now, it is so good.
one thing they have added is elements.
which can be combined with the boons apprentally.
not entireally sure how that works yet
Does anyone know what percentage of the game is released with early access? Is it equivalent to one “area” in hades 1?
Supergiant said the content right now is bigger than the original Hades.
But they are adding one more area and another weapon, so it's gonna be even bigger
I'm trying to resist till 1.0. but not sure i will be able to.
Get It lol @@CarlosHernandez-hp4lm
I just made it to the main boss of the FOURTH biome - and it took me A LOT longer than to reach Hades at the end of the first game. And that wasn’t even the end of of it!
Make no mistake, Hades II in Early Access is already a HUGE game!
Weapons are underwhelming aside from a few. I hope they get a buff before 1.0. Game is awesome though!
they better add weapon variants
They have already
More time to play Hades 1!
100% buying but not until full release
That's an easy question: play a bunch of it now, in early access, then play a bunch more on release. I mean, c'mon, people are still playing ER 2 years later, and very little changes in that from playthrough 1 to playthrough 10; and almost every playthrough of Hades 2 is different, so it's a no brainer to me
I only got one question: Will Exagryph the Adamant Rail be back? :D
Yes, it's back, but not in the way you may be thinking
My hope is I'm gonna play it a bit now, then wait for the updates, then play some more, etc. This way I hope I won't get burned out. If they actually have to wipe my save though, that'd be a bummer. Devastating, actually. I think I'd not pick it up again. On the other hand, I can always read up on the story, and that part really wasn't Hades' strong suit to begin with. The game did get repetitive after a while though. Once you had the "final forms" of all boss encounters, there really wasn't much to it anymore. Yes, there were the modifiers/mutators, but those imho are more for "die-hard" fans looking for the maximum amount of challenge. I did a few of them, maybe up to level 5 or so? But the story bits were REALLY spread out towards the end, I mean the actual ending, etc. And I just didn't feel like investing dozens more hours into it, because you had to complete an entire run each time.
Hades 2 so far is more of the same, but still new and fresh right now. I don't really dig the resource gathering mechanic, I think. Having to choose which tool to bring certainly is... a choice. The magic system feels a bit weird right now. The cast seems mostly useless, unless enhanced and charged, some animations lock you into place for way too long, the first 2 weapons being very close range doesn't help, and the dash feels unsatisfying for now.
Hades 2 is a beautiful game and I have been loving every second of the game even though I’m getting whooped
I wish you had said what your top favourites were, rather than just demoing them.
This and Silksong are 2 releases I have no issue waiting on.
Let them cook.
Imagine avoiding a great game because some of the characters are slightly brown.
Forgive them, they're a little bit on edge this week. Their orange messiah has had a rough time lately in court. It's bound to trigger the incels into being extra sensitive. ;)
Its not just "brown" it's an offensive caricature minus the red lipstick. They had an opportunity to make her an androgynous woman and they chose obese and black.
Imagine thinking Hades is a great game lol
@@alariaaurora8456 go back to cod guides bro
@@nate5400 lol
Nowadays fans of every single mediocre franchise think everyone else is playing COD
I actually play anything but competitive online shooters and looter shooters.
Just for the record: I have played almost every single indie hit from Celeste, Hollow knight & Dead Cells to Outer wilds and Disco Elysium.
I've owned and played almost every single console Exclusive from 3 big companies: Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo
And I've been a Pc gamer since 2001 and i used to play StarCraft 1 and warcraft 3 back then and nowadays i usually play RPG games mostly like Nioh, monster hunter games and soulsborne + soulslike games
You can't name a great single player game that i haven't played and after 23 years of gaming under my belt i confidently say Hades is mediocre at best.
Yeah, it is a worthy sequel. Mel is a bit 'slower' than Zag as she can't do the non-stop mad-dashing, but she has more range tools and spells than her big brother. A nice change of pace that gives you a little twist despite feeling right at home with the mechanics from the get-go. Supergiant is one hell of a great studio.
ive never bought an early access game so fast in my life. i dont have a single regret either. doesnt feel incomplete in any way and 100% lives up to my expectations after the first game
My partner upgraded her photography laptop just for this and spent all day playing on early access release. And will very likely be just as excited about it as me on 1.0 release when I finally jump in. If you're a diehard fan, you're going to have zero problem starting over fresh haha
There is no escape.
If one likes and wants this game why should one play the Early Access version when there is also a normal game version on Steam?
i'll give it a chance
as a big greek mythology fan this game is up there on my wish list with ER dlc
I look forward to playing this a ton in EA and then starting a new game in the full release in hell mode. So far I'm 4 hours in and have a blast outside of the one jerk character you meet on level 2.
I’m probably getting this game on the next paycycle. As good as the story for Hades was, the combat & game loop were better.
I'm worried about the character designs
I gotta say, the gameplay looks way slower then the original hades, idk it kinda puts me off
What else is new
When you play too many EA games and follow them through to completion, you kinda get EA burnout, especially if save wipes are in the picture.
I think if you have the money and want to show the devs support, an EA purchase is worth it even if you don't play it until full 1.0 release. Supergiant has ALWAYS delivered with their games, and this will be no different.
ps5?????
Next year after it gets out of early access
Game just launched in early access. Until it hits 1.0 don't expect a console release, potentially a year from now but could be less (or more)
Sony doesn't do early access.
I see that the have itself has lower the pace of combat. I see slower enemies
When it comes out on playstations
Wait! I will!
69th. Nice
Who the shawty in the thumbnail
It's like Hades 1, but just worse in every possible way. Which means its decent, but I'd rather just play more Hades 1
It's still Early Access. Give it some time.
I don’t see what makes the game different. I liked the first enough but I feel like I need more meaningful changes than I’m seeing to make me buy again
good video. the amount of gamers who want to censor Supergiant Games is pretty disappointing. grow up
I played the heck out of Hades, got the secret ending and did it all. Honestly, I'm not that interested in the sequel unless there are some bigger changes
In today's day and age of dogshit 'underbaked releases', I believe that the studio producing Hades has greater integrity, relevant to recent examples of poorly optimised games (on release).
I purchased a few days ago to support and I HOPE TO GOD, that when I said "I will never buy at pre-release game after cyberpunk", that I am not proven wrong again in believing a game studio!
I'm only buying cos I am a simple for aphrodite
I'm glad to see a small developer getting so much attention as I see the reviews on Steam being overwhelmingly positive, but I don't think it's something that I like because it just doesn't seem to hit the marks for me, looks like it plays too basic and the visuals are cartoonish.
gotta say i find hades 2 kinda boring. the story setting doesnt feel quite right for me eventho i love hades 1. the artwork is better than hades 1 tho
Ngl I wasn't really wowed by what I've seen so far. I'm pretty much being carried by my love for Hades1. Hopefully I'll have made the right call. Waiting for 1.0 anyway
Can you explain a bit more on the boring part? I delayed my purchase because i'm afraid if it's gonna get boring
@@Shura480I can't speak for everyone, but the gameplay loop seems to be almost identical to Hades. Which is very fun, though if you've had your fill of hades already, then this won't be different enough to keep your attention.
That being said, if you liked hades and want more of it (and tons of cool new music, artwork, storylines etc.) then I say pick it up
@@zachrowe6271i read somewhere the dash mechanic is different, which im huge fan of in hades 1 it set up the tempo fast. Is it good or worse?
it sure does look like Hades 1
Yeah, it's almost as if it's a direct sequel. Shocker
EA or not, as soon as they add achievements, I'm in.
Progress is supposed to carry over to 1.0
Can anyone please let me know what everyone loves about these 2 games? I get the art is beautiful and the soundtrack is fantastic, obviously.
But every time i see gameplay, the guy is just doing the same 3 hit combo over and over again, then shooting an orb, repeat forever. The most important part of a game to me is the gameplay and it just looks so boring... Am i missing something?
While the base attacks may be boring there are multiple weapons to unlock. Gods can alter all of your base attacks as well as hammers. Every single play though you can have a totally different build there is so much to experiment and play around with.
The top down perspective and gameplay didn't interest me before, but after playing hades totally changed my perspective, tho I'm sure it's not for everyone
@@K_End oh?? There's more weapons than just the spear, and they can be further modified? And are the boons more than just "after dodging, increase attack." Or, "do more damage with magic?" Like things that modify how your character works?
Thanks for the clarification.
@@master-dukecuthbert5061 each boon can also change the apperence of the attacks.
ie with zues they change to yellow/ lighting themed etc
@@taylorgarrett793 less cool, but still a nice detail lol. I might pick it up when it comes out of early access. I loved cult of the lamb, but it was so nice practically having 2 different games when you got bored of one gameplay loop.
Game devs in 2024: here's yet another TOP DOWN isometric RPG.
His voice just makes the game sound sooooo boring he has as much enthusiasm speaking on the games as the clear eye guy
I got done with hades after 20 hours. There is no way I'm going to buy something similar for another 20 hours of gameplay.
So far extremely dissapointing in most of the aspects.
We will see how much will they improve the game in 1.0
Can't even call it Hades 1.5 right now
The footage is too loud, distracting as hell
Yeah I agree.
Jesus, that fanservice....
Nah bro I'm buying it
Hell yeah man, I hope you enjoy every second of it! I am in shock at some of the comments I'm seeing on here, calling the game mid, and even bad. I've experienced the complete opposite.
woke
I don't like early access games anymore, I feel like the whole feeling is lost during the waiting of the release, which in many cases takes one year or even longer, and I lose interest; the full experience is ruined.
So I will wait for the release.
Let’s get some
More in depth nonsense so people can either jump on the bandwagon of hating it or not. It’s so sad how people follow what a You Tuner says. No one has a mind of their own.
