- In this video, I show you how to use a 42% concentrated solution of permethrin to recharge your old thermacell pads for continued use. The method is extremely simple as you will see in this video. The method can be used over and over again for multiple uses of a single old pad. In the video, I test the effectiveness of the regenerated pads. I notice that it completely clears a very large area of mosquitoes and other pests. The application of the permethrin to the pads just takes a couple of minutes at the most. The pads are than ready to use. For the original video on how to refill the butane cartridges for continued, repeated use, please check my original video in the series over here:

PLEASE NOTE that the use of permethrin and allethrin in these pads is safest to use in well ventilated areas. Use in closed spaces is not advised.
ALSO NOTE naturally occurring pyrethrins found in chrysanthemum flowers and structurally similar pyrethroids which are chemical analogs of pyrethrins are toxic to fish and can be toxic to cats - Věda a technologie
I keep same the pad in my thermacell and add a few drops of permethrin + blue dye (from a dropper bottle) each time I use it. It seems to be as effective as the real pads.
Hi. First of all, thank youe for your informative video. I also have a plan to refill Thermacell pads but I am confused about these tefms: prallethrin, allethrin and permethrin. Are they all the same or different? And what is the active substance that Thermacell pads have? Is it prallethrin?
If you can't find the 38% can you just use more drops of say the 10% ?
Thanks … saves $$$$$
Thanks - you’re welcome!
Would aerosol type permethrin work instead? I have a can on hand that I'd like to use.
It’s definitely worth a try.
Probably would
Use the back packer version w a propane adapter 1gal canisters of propane can be used
That works great. That’s what I have been doing as well.
Where would I find permethrin? In in NZ and a google search isn’t bringing anything up. Thanks
The EU has banned it and Australia is on the fence about it waiting on what to do-/It’s due to its toxicity to aquatic animals. Here is a link where you might be able to get it shipped to you but would need to call them about it;

@@BrianDhvTinkerer Hahhh.... You want to do it yourself? NOpe- we cannot allow it because it's toxic.... But you can buy it as a product thats 10000% more expensive! then we dont care about how toxic it is.. :D
Thanks for this. Will aletherin also work in this application?
Yes they come stock with allethrin
Will work great!!!
How do you know when the refilled pad is finished since you can’t see the color change?
I usually let it run for about 3 to 4 hours, which is the usual run time. Then just let the pad cool off and add a few more drops and it’s good for a few more hours.
Hello! would you be interested in testing a refill adapter for thermacell that I sell. make a video on it and review?
Hey! I would be interested in testing a refill adapter! I'd GLADLY make a video, and review it. I've bee less than happy with the crappy plastic ones that I've had to "adapt" (wife and I run a dental lab, so everything is "adapted" to fit as a necessity, lol). I'll post a reply on your channel, too.
please i would
I did this. Florida swamp mosquitoes laughed at it.
Original thermacell pads work waaaaaaaay better.
Agree
Maybe you need to dunk and soak the pads in the Permethrin as opposed to just dropping a few droplets on the pad.
Yeah my friend told me about those mutated mosquitos- scary stuff
Do you use it pure or do you mixed it in a ratio with water? For example 1:5 with destilated water?!
The one I am using is kerosene-based. There are water soluble formulas out there as well. Both work just as well. I just put it onto the pads undiluted.
@@BrianDhvTinkerer thanks for your reply :) do you smell a difference between the original mats from thermacell and the "refilled" ones with the permethrin sfr 38.6% concentrate? Greetings out of germany ;)
@@TheHunter0077 no I can’t really tell the difference. I’ve been using them in the garage where I work and also outside and they seem to work pretty well. I actually now have four thermal units with mod cartridges for refilling- the permethrin works just as well. I would not use it indoors or in a tent better to just use in an outdoor situation.
@@BrianDhvTinkerer I would like to use it while fishing in Norway while traveling with my camper. Can you say something practical about the wind sensitivity of the devices? Does it make sense to use two devices in light winds, or is one sufficient outdoors?
@@TheHunter00772 is better then o e for sure one better to place upwind
Get rid of the potted plants in your sunroom and the mosquitos won't have a home
Permethrin nowhere to be found 😐
I’m thinking some countries may not sell it. I bought mine at Lowe’s USA. I don’t know if it can be shipped internationally.
Industry must have found out we're trying to save money. Funny how once information like this gets out all the sudden no supplies.
