Spartan Mosquito Eradicators are a highly effective and easy-to-use solution for controlling mosquito populations in outdoor areas. They work by luring in female mosquitoes with a scent that mimics human breath, and then exposing them to a lethal dose of insecticide.
The key to the effectiveness of Spartan Mosquito Eradicators lies in their patented blend of ingredients. The mixture of sucrose, salt, and yeast creates carbon dioxide, heat, and moisture, which closely resembles the scent of human breath. Female mosquitoes are highly attracted to this scent, as they require a blood meal in order to lay eggs. Once they enter the Eradicator, they consume the mixture and are exposed to a highly potent insecticide.
The active ingredient in Spartan Mosquito Eradicators is Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti), a naturally occurring bacterium that is highly effective at killing mosquitoes. Bti produces toxins that specifically target the digestive systems of mosquitoes and other related insects, while being harmless to humans, pets, and most other non-target organisms. Once inside the mosquito's gut, the Bti toxins cause the gut walls to break down, leading to death by starvation.
Spartan Mosquito Eradicators are designed to be hung outdoors in areas where mosquitoes are prevalent, such as near standing water or shaded areas. They can be hung from trees, poles, or other structures, and are effective for up to 90 days, depending on environmental conditions and the number of mosquitoes in the area. The Eradicators are a long-term solution for controlling mosquito populations and can be used in combination with other mosquito control measures, such as repellents and larvicides, for more comprehensive mosquito control.
The benefits of Spartan Mosquito Eradicators are numerous. They are easy to use, requiring no batteries or electricity, and can be placed in areas where conventional mosquito control methods are not practical. They are also environmentally friendly, as they use a naturally occurring bacterium and are not harmful to non-target organisms. Additionally, Spartan Mosquito Eradicators can help reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases, such as West Nile virus, dengue fever, and Zika virus, by controlling mosquito populations in outdoor areas.
In conclusion, Spartan Mosquito Eradicators are an effective and environmentally friendly solution for controlling mosquito populations in outdoor areas. They work by luring in female mosquitoes with a scent that mimics human breath, and then exposing them to a lethal dose of insecticide. With their long-lasting effectiveness and ease of use, Spartan Mosquito Eradicators are an ideal solution for anyone looking to control mosquitoes and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
IF YOU WISH TO MAKE YOUR OWN....
HERE IS A SIMPLE DIY EXPLAINATION!
    Materials:
    A 2-liter plastic bottle
    Black spray paint
    1 cup of sugar (Sucrose)
    1 packet of yeast
    1 cup of warm water
    1 teaspoon of salt
    Instructions:
Start by washing the 2-liter plastic bottle and cutting off the top third of the bottle with scissors or a sharp knife.
Spray paint the upper part of the bottle black, as mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors.
In a separate container, mix together 1 cup of sugar, 1 packet of yeast, 1 cup of warm water, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir the mixture until the sugar and salt are completely dissolved.
Pour the mixture into the bottom part of the bottle.
Take the top part of the bottle and turn it upside down, placing it inside the bottom part of the bottle. Make sure the spout of the top part is pointing downwards and the opening is just above the sugar mixture.
Use tape to seal the two pieces of the bottle together, leaving no gaps between them.
Place the mosquito trap in a dark, humid area, where mosquitoes are likely to gather. The trap will work best in shaded areas such as patios, balconies, or gardens.
Check the trap every few days and replace the sugar mixture as needed. You can also dispose of any dead mosquitoes that have accumulated in the trap.
With this simple DIY mosquito trap, you can effectively reduce the number of mosquitoes in your surroundings. However, it's important to note that no mosquito trap can completely eradicate mosquitoes, so it's best to use other methods such as wearing long-sleeved clothing, using mosquito repellent, and eliminating any sources of stagnant water where mosquitoes can breed.

Use black or very dark bottles, paint them if you have to. Mosquitoes are attracted to dark things , that goes for dark clothes too. So wear light colors while outside.

The recipe I use is sugar and yeast like you suggest but instead of salt use instead boric acid. This is the recipe for Spartan Pro Tech. Boric acid is definitely a bug killer and probably more potent than salt, and it's not expensive.

I am going to give the DIY version a go. The Bti referred in the ‘Spartan’ active ingredients can be found in Mosquito Bits so I’ll be adding these into my mix. I suspect that the mosquito traps alone won’t eradicate mosquitoes but combined with a Thermocell and spraying the garden/plants with a solution containing Bifenthrin should keep them at bay!

The first traps do not "catch" them. they just eat the stuff and fly off and die. nothing to show i am afraid. The second one does trap them and they die. kind of gross to show. when full enough we just through out the entire trap rather than rinse and re-use.

    • @TheHappyHootie
      @TheHappyHootie  Před rokem +8

Adding it to both would not hurt anything. You don’t “need” to add the salt to the bottle trap as it is exactly that… a trap. They get inside and can’t get out and drown / die.
In the spartan tubes they don’t “die” inside the actual trap. They drink the mix and dehydrate as they just drink saltwater thinking it is a tasty treat.

PSA: Spartan Mosquito Eradicators DO NOT decrease the populations of the most common medically significant mosquitoes you will encounter in your garden, and likely have zero effect on the number of bites you get. You will inevitably think you are getting bitten less, but this is a well-known phenomenon called the placebo effect.
If you want to protect yourself from mosquitoes, here’s what works:
    a) removing any standing water (old tires, plastic bags, planter saucers, children’s toys, etc.)
    b) avoiding the outdoors when most medically significant mosquitoes (Aedes, Anopheles, Culex) are active. This is dawn and dusk.
    c) wearing long, loose clothing (preferably treated with Permethrin).
    d) wearing a personal insect repellent (synthetic repellents almost always work better than natural repellents, and they’re just as safe, but you can use natural repellents if you prefer).
Really, you need to do all of those, but even doing one or two of them can go a long way.
Here’s a good study showing that the specific product, Spartan Mosquito Eradicator, is ineffective. I can say with some confidence that none of the commercially available mosquito traps or adulticides effectively control mosquito populations (adulticides like those pointless mosquito spraying trucks may give temporary relief, but as long as there’s habitat and food mosquitoes will return within hours).

@@bobrock9450 it’s a valid question. Did it work for us? I think so. This year was exceptionally bad for mosquitoes here in the Midwest due to mild winters. After a couple weeks we noticed a substantial decline in populations. They are not “eliminated” but it is now bearable to play outside with the kids without being eaten alive.
I will say… we are a unique situation where we line on several acres . By placing these traps further away from the house we have not “attracted” mosquitoes to the house . Some have claimed these traps make it worse… I think they if you place these close to your house they may do more harm than good.
      Hope it helps.
