We the people should file a class action. If an over the airwaves broadcast channel is subject to over the air FCC rules then every citizen/taxpayer should have equal access and or cost for programming regardless of their location.
@Freddie Shokoor Nope, not free, advertising pays for it to exist and our tax dollars pay to regulate how it is distributed over the airwaves. It is free for you or I to receive over those airwaves provided we have a ten dollar antenna and live within 30 or 40 miles of where the broadcast tower is.
Watch in speed
The fact they block the airways is definitely not ethical
I understand this suggestion. I can not receive any local channels which are supposed to make their signals available, which they probably do at such a weak frequency or in the worst areas with signal obstacles I wouldn't know, I can't get any digital signals and am kind of forced to subscribe to the only cable company assigned to my area if I want access to local channels. My current cable package is local channels and the lowest internet speed and I'm paying 90 dollars. Fixed income here so I'm looking to lower my cable bill, if I remove tv, which I barely watch anyway, to have only internet costs the same as my current bill. Doesn't make sense especially seeing how there's no other Cable company allowed to create competition, the exception is fios, they are still seen as a telephone company they're services are almost the same. Doesn't make sense. I remember when major networks went to congress requesting to receive a fee from residents to view channels, congress saud no must be publicly available, right after that, digital tv came about with limited signals access smh yes we need to get to our representatives
I can’t receive local channels with an antenna because of the terrain around my home.
These streaming companies really know how to make life miserable for people
Then why did you watch it,? Wish there was an app to detect bully's and assholes.
It was very informative and greatly presented.
A very concise and informative video. My frustration is with the current issue DirecTV has with NBC Universal. I'm not concerned with the "what and why" between corporations. I am very much concerned with how much I pay for satellite TV and the fact that I now have to pay for either a streaming service (not a fan) or buy and install an antenna if I want to watch NBC network shows. Done with the rant, everyone! Over and Out...LOL 😁
So in conclusion, get an antenna.
Right
Thank man you saved me a lot of time even if it was sad to hear it's not simple
Locast was the best, shame they didn't figure out a way to make it work but the parent companies of those main network channels are greedy af. If they had their way, we wouldn't even be able to get them free over antenna. And honestly, that's still the best way as long as you don't live in a rural area and are watching from home. Puffer is okay, I use it quite a bit but the streaming quality is often low and it maxes out fast. Really tough to connect on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. I also have no idea when Stanford plans to end their testing.
Puffer is open source, if you have knowledge for modifying this software, then you can do it. Otherwise, localVerse is also a best option, and you can host the streams created with localCaster for free
Agreed!
I miss Locast too! I wouldn’t mind if it became a payed service since I was voluntarily donating monthly.
When you start adding up all the subscription costs, the real answer is to pay one time for a decent antenna and pick up those local stations for free. When you have to set up and pay for several different apps to cover the content you can get with a simple cable plan, I can't see how cutting the cord is a financial win. Perhaps it was in the early days of cord cutting, but as I predicted often back in those days the providers and content owners weren't going to sit back and accept a loss. Now with many different streaming services required to get the same content you used to access with one cable plan, cord cutting is not the big savings people assumed it would be.
Local TV should be FREE period. It’s Always been free & still should be Free ! When air waves are paid for already anyway, it’s just pure GREED to be charging or bringing a hardship on low economical families to have to pay. It should be FREE like it’s always been. Fine if you want to charge for streaming but truly LIVE NEWS & Broadcast TV should remain FREE.
@@annscott900it is, so,why rant ? Buy a $15 window antenna
Very informative! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I've got a tv in my bathroom. It doesn't do anything. All I wanna do is hook it up to get local tv stations so I can watch the news or something. Why is it so damn difficult to do something that a tv from 20 years ago had no problem doing?
This is an ideal room to figure out this sh*t show 😅.
Nobody asked them to shut off analog signal. Many can’t get any channel if not near a tower. Even basic tv is expensive requiring a dumb cable box in addition. Then companies complain about cord cutters. Sick of the greed.
I’ve a 1954 tv , still picks up over air tv. Get a adapter signal booster attach to antenna 😂
@@iamthegreatiam2075 depends on area
@@back2the80s Also depends on willingness to trouble shoot.
Locast was the best option. In the area where I live I cannot get 1 OTA signal even with the best antenna.
Never had it.Out of business.
Thank you awesome job
Was so very informative . Thank you
Very interesting, Matt. I'm going to check out BTV at your recommendation. I still have an old-fashioned analog antenna--the flat, square type--that kind of, sort of works, weather permitting. But I live in a dead zone for television reception so BTV might work for me.
Thank you for the exact points
One of his solutions to watch free local channels is to buy a cheap streaming service. Did anyone catch that? 🤣🤣🤣. I’m starting a new channel how to get a free car and my solution is there’s going to be car payments.
10 years ago we used to get every local Ota channel, then they did a frequency shuffle. Now we hardly get anything.
I had a 45 foot pole with tv antenna 35 years ago. Now I’ve a $15 tv antenna sits in ground floor window and gets more channels. Same location 😂
Pluto just got rid of Glen Beck today in NJ. Proof of being sensored.
You covered a lot of information. Thanks.
You're welcome!
I wish you showed the actual picture of Puffer works on 5:00 instead of that Blurred for Copyright nonsense.
Well, I have ordered a stronger antenna off Amazon that had nothing but excellent reviews. I am hoping it pulls in more channels then I get now with my present antenna in my mobile home. All my tvs require a converter box. I did learn about downloading PBS APP on my Samsung Moto which will help me as Weigel Broadcasting decided to yank DABL lifestyle channel in St Augustine Fl. and replace it with a new trash version of dabl. So thank you for an antidote of PBS that I didn't know could be downloaded.
Trying to install local channels and Univision and Telemundo channels too. Need to hook up with firestick tv
Was so very informative . Thank you 11:33
I don't understand why my "digital" antenna stopped getting the basic 4 channels... wth happened????
🤷🏻♂️ I get 78 with a $16 window antenna
Thanks for sharing!
The PBS app may not that user-friendly for you, but it is definitely worth a few minutes of your time. In order to watch the livestream, It wants you to choose your local broadcasting station. To do so, you are supposed to enter your local zip code. Then it will bring up a list of any local broadcasting channels. You get to choose your local channel. Great, except I live in an area served by an isp that provides an ip address that is quite far from my physical address. I tried to select a central Illinois station and was told that I can't because I am outside of that station's broadcasting area.
(EDIT: They have updated the selection process. Now, they list the stations available in my supposed broadcast area, rather than make me geolocate. Apparently, I am now still close to Carbondale, IL but now my alternate channel is in Evansville, IN. I think that I will stick to WSIU in Carbondale; I've never had a problem watching it.)
PBS's app was of good use whenever I wanted to watch my alternate PBS station, KBDI, but my signal was trash through antenna
I live in a rural and the only television channel I can receive out of Buffalo: FOX 29 and PBS. I live in Brocton and the transmission towers are in Boston, 45 miles away. Between are hills and the Chautauqua ridge. Erie stations can be picked up but the building faces north blocking Erie. To me a translator station would work but we are too distant. An outdoor could work but nothing can be built on the property. I have learned that my best option was streaming.
Get an outdoor antena. 45 miles isn't that far for a good outdoor. It doesn't have to be one of those gigantic tower things like they had in the 70's and 80's. Just a small outdoor mounted to the side of you house.
@@WutTheWutThe you are stupid. The reason why my reception is bad is the transmitter is 45 to 50 miles away and there’s a high ridge that blocks the signal. A tower is not allowed per management. Why don’t you pick up a book and read it dummy.
@@WutTheWutThewe built one in 1997 , a 45 foot pole with giant antenna. Now a $15 tv antenna sits in window gets same results. I have mountains not hills so…no clue why people won’t try these cheap antennas lol
@@iamthegreatiam2075 yeah, that crap didn't work for me and I live in a flat area. You just got lucky I guess.
@@WutTheWutThe maybe so.
Great information and interesting video here Matt! I live in Vancouver🇨🇦 and have a summer home in Washington State. What can Canadian viewers watch for free and is BTV available here along the 🇨🇦🇺🇸Border? Thanks again for the informative information here, best regards and Happy New Year🎉🥳
Hmm… can’t say I’m overly familiar with Canadian TV but here’s some info I found on the web: www.hp.com/ca-en/shop/offer.aspx?p=watch-tv-without-cable-canada
I’ve never been allowed to watch any episodes from a network without having a T.V. Provider to log in. I tried. I did however get a $25 antenna from Target that helped me get regular channels. I don’t really watch them though since you have to switch all your settings
You should be able to have a switch to change over. new boxes for that are coming out.. Even a TV where you have to endure 24/7 adverting.. They are free atm.. We are nothing but slave consumers.. The Idiot BOX will prevail when we should be boycotting all of it.
Cable is so much simpler and damn near cheaper.
Awesome 👍🏼
Great info 💯%
Love your channel with a smile
Thanks so much!
I'm more confused now than I was before i clicked (watch now) !
😵💫
Any questions I can help walk you through?
Why not get a Roku? $35 up front then free local news and TV.
This video popped up 1 year old but still with a lot of good information some of which I did know and would save alot of research time for people !!! And I definitely had to like, Subscribed and Shared !!!
Thank you so much, James!!!

how can i watch in Cambodia for the local Live Channels as Abc, Nbc, Fox, Cw, Cbs ?
Just my luck. I live in South Jersey, in the Philly metro area. All three major networks, NBC, ABC & CBS have stations west of Philly in the same location, about 18 miles from my house at 319° from me. I have a west facing window on the 5th floor with direct line-of-sight to all three towers. Only one problem, NBC (channel 10) and CBS (channel 3) upconvert & actually broadcast in the UHF channel range (around channels 38 & 40). ABC for some strange reason, still broadcasts 1080i, but does it on its old VHF channel 6. I can take any cheap mudflap antenna & bury it in a bottom drawer & I still get NBC & CBS clear as a bell. But, if I put an antenna on my window, facing the stations, I've literally got to be within 1° of 319° to pick up ABC & I still often get brief sound cutouts & occasional lines of pixillation. My window is not exactly 319° so I have a shim in one side to get the angle as close as I can, but I will often turn to ABC & not get a watchable feed - or no feed at all. Bummer. My antenna is a very good one (I can pick up PoconoTV at 50 miles because I'm line of sight from my high apartment to the mountain where the station is & about 80 other channels. But, I CAN'T DEPENDABLY GET ABC - with or without an amplifier & even inline filter. I am a long-time cable cutter & will NOT pay just for a single network channel. It just peeves me that ABC is too cheap & customer hostile to have moved their broadcast frequency into the UHF band. I know TV, having programmed on Intel's first digital TV for PCs in the early 90s, on 1K 1080p with David Sarnoff Research Center (where color TV was first invented), 4k UHDTV in Shanghai in 2010 (we STILL don't have any providers in the US that show native 4K 13 years later except for DirecTV, which reserves it for $19.95 specials (and I wrote that codec for them) and worked with the same Shanghai group on 8K 4280p in 2014. America is a decade behind the modern world - and charges much more for primitive cable & satellite services compared to what most of the modern world enjoys.
So relieved to read this! I'm in Philly (near Tac Pal Bridge) I'm going back & forth w/my husband now on this antenna thing. I want access to NBC/CBS, husband has no interest. Already pay $45/mo for my internet & TV.
He's afraid of a fine or something for the antenna, after seeing ppl complain if we get a crappy inside one it won't work. Maybe it will in Philly, I wasn't thinking about the area. So I'll give it a try, hopefully have the same experience! Thx
I want locals to get commercials and news alerts. If I get those two things to pop up on my screen, then any show or movie or CZcams will do.
so as far as I can tell only $100 hdhome run is the only thing that will bring your local tv antennae into your Tivo stream 4k, other wise your paying some subs
Nothing I did not already know!
The best thing is to purchase a fire stick and learn how to put apk on it or put an antenna up which isn't hard to do .
It is amazing back in the 50’s we had “pay TV”. Now we’re back to it. Ridiculous

I bought and put up an antenna and scanned the channels... I have almost 70 channels.... Its much easier and free.... What your talking about is harder and some cost $$$
That only works great if you don't live in a rural area. I can get 4 channels with an antenna
Rick York what is the name of your Antenna and where did you purchase it from?
Of course I live between 2 major cities ...it all depends on where you live how many channels you get ..I also have an amplifier to boost the signal

@@BorninVirginiaI get 0 channels. Local channel basic cable costs too high and requires a dumb cable box
These are pretty much useless. If you can, get a antenna. I live 40 miles from the nearest tower and with a 20$ antenna I can get all the major stations no problem. When the weather gets real bad, one or two stations can get a little spotty.
Man, you take too long to get why folks come here in the first place. This was suppose to be watching local channels without an antenna and yet all l heard was about options in streaming services.

Misleading WTH you used three!
Not sure what you're referring to.... could you elaborate?
Thay need to make Apps ...that can get the network stations....they did the same thing with Satellite TV....by scrambling the Channels...and creating a middle man called Satellite Providers. ..We had to get a decoder...then thay killed that business.... for good....if this continues ..the internet will go the same way....the internet should be able to have every TV network in the world 🌎....U should not have to go to extreme to get everyday TV?!!!!.... thanks for video
It’s not exactly free. You still have to pay for the data you use. And if you’re on a data plan that only has a certain amount of data, you don’t watch that antenna TV through Internet
sling TV does not have fox 8
Do yourself a favor. Get an outdoor antenna and forget trying to stream locals. I've tried every trick in the book and every option sucks. Putting up an antenna might seem intimidating, but it isn't that bad. Just do it. You'll thank you later!
5:00 Blurred for Copyright? Really? The copyright system is a joke, show the entire screencap.
CZcams automatically scans videos for copyrighted material. Even if I just show a short clip of a copyrighted show I could get a content strike and it's easier just to blur it.

I wish we never switched to the antenna. PBS stands for public broadcasting company but now we have to pay $20 for an antenna... At least it's not $40 like it was when they made the switch
Ummm... We began with antenna... Then came cable and so on... 😳
@@jacal420 I remember as a kid getting local channels without the antenna. You could get the antenna but it was to make the signal better and to get all channels. Like for me u couldn't get NBC. I got Fox, CBS, ABC and PBS so I'd watch Arthur when I got home from school and watch college football on the other channels.
Not to metion the cost of the tv.
"we have to pay $20 for an antenna" . . . So don't spend the $20 for an antenna, put up a coat hanger - then it will be REALLY free
@@LombreFan I've honestly never heard of that... that back in the day before cable TV, you could get reception WITHOUT an antenna at all! Even if it's a low cost old fashioned "rabbit ears" antenna, you'd still need it. It would have wires (UHF, VHF) that you would then hook up to a 300 to 75 OHM F-Type Balun connector that would plug in to the TV's antenna port. This was even before coax cables were common. Without this, you couldn't get any reception from what I recall.

Click bait. How to Watch Local Channels Without an Antenna in 2023? Pay for it; otherwise, you get bits and pieces. While the statement is true that you can watch local channels without an antenna it is very misleading and wasted my time. In the end, I did not learn anything new. I pay for Paramount+, Peacock, and Hulu which covers watching all the "local tv" for the major stations; just not always live. Also, if you like sports, you're paying someone to stream it.. or.......use an antenna. LOL
