    For the last 2 years I do a 30 min warm up not only before the match but before every single 2-hour training session + a 30 min stretching after each session. And I love it, my body loves it. And the reason for that unfortunately was a shoulder injury because I didn't do enough of warm ups and additional exercises. So, great stuff, Nick. I like that you talk about it, it's extremely important.

    Your videos have really helped my tennis. I always take time to warm up for about 15 minutes or so before I play, to prevent injuries.

    Love watching these videos. We are about the same age and I grew up playing tennis. Lots of these practice drills and warm-ups are the same ones that I learned from my coach 30+ years ago.     Another great video! I’ve never understood the warm up part of a match when it comes to pros. As you said they are already warmed up, they know their opponent games and they are familiar with the court. The toss in my opinion should be done in the locker room and as soon as they show up on the court the match should begin.

    Great video! The hardest thing for me to warm up is the tossing arm for the serve. It takes so many repetitions before I get the feel and can place the ball consistently.

      @@commondirtbagz7130 it does work like that though. Also wear layers, why would you train in the cold without layers? If you're not sweating with layers on, you're not going intense enough imo.

    Had same late issue happen years ago in a GaSt "Olympics" 10.5 doub.s... had to start 0-3 v #1 seed, with 2 minutes to default, yet had best partner, & won in 3 in semis. Mostly fortunate not to see a cop on way...

    Hi Nic! First of all thanks for all the videos. Could you help me find the one that covers a whole day of practice? It goes through a whole day of practice including warming up, stretching, practicing resting, ice relaxation, nutrition, etc.. Is a really good guide jut I can't find it!       @Intuitive Tennis 🙏🤝👍 well, skipping the rope warms me up well quickly and good to go without wasting much time, the most important for my joints and actually everything. I'm skipping and moving a bit forward, then backwards, then left, then right, then diagonal, on both legs, just on one leg. It wakes up my brain, breathing, and for me importantly good for my joints. That small warm-up and then after the match short swimming or after the shower stretching at home keeps me without any injuries at all, and I am 41 already

      I always felt Sharapova had the best warm up routine. I’m a naturalist when it comes to drink.

    Do you get better at tennis from training or playing matches? I know both help, but where is the majority of the progress being made?

      Depends on where you need to improve the most.
      During training your focusing on the technical aspects, your areas that need improving, errors that need fixing, learning new things, etc, also potentially coming up with drills for tactical aspects.
      During a match everything is different, suddenly your misses count, you’ll be facing the opponent and yourself, so you get better on the mental and psychological aspects, as well as understanding when to be defensive/aggressive, how to exploit/adapt to your opponents, etc.
      One doesn’t substitute the other, so to your question, it depends which area you have the most room for growth, that is how you can tell where you can get the most from.
      As a recreational player myself, I do find though that I get more enjoyment out of matches, so I try to make sure I’m playing more than training, for enjoyment alone.

    I think the warm up you demo'd is a little too much, you seem winded from the warmup. I could see stretching for 2 minutes, and you can simply hit balls from the baseline if no one is there, the concentration should be on a lot of hydration (it seemed hot out there) and protein before and during the game. Also I don't think that opponent was at your level, the strokes were possibly a 4.5 level maybe but I was not able to see much of his game.

      Like I said in the video, players can do what suits them depending on different factors such as age, physical condition and time. I don’t recommend static stretches prior to playing. Milan (my opponent) is a competitive level player, former D2, top 20 junior in Croatia. Having said that, no matter how weak or strong the opponent is I always recommend warming up prior to playing.       Any proper warm up for a hyper active exercise like tennis matches requires elevating your heart rate and engaging those muscles. You risk injury if you expect yourself to go from light “Hit around” from baseline into full game state of extreme sprinting, lunging, reaching, pivoting etc. same thing for baseball as example, you can’t just throw the ball around for a few minutes then transition to full sprinting on the field and expect your body to endure that gracefully. Get your body moving, loosen up, then get the critical piece in -heart rate elevated
      Hydration begins long time before match, 24 hours minimum

    Bending has been my weak points as well, I'm using Ben Patrick @TheKneesovertoesguy workouts to help strengthen my weak points and rebuild my knees while becoming pain free-so far I've only been doing warm up routines for a week now and my knees and ankles have no pain - check him out to revive the strength in your game at any age 💪🏾
