      The problem is that Eden 6 and Pandora are way too big with many bosses in comparison to other planets. But there's many other things it could be separated, like boss type, boss element, enemy rarity, etc. Like vault monsters could drop more relics and eridian weapons as well.

    9:20 PREACH. I want that aswell. It caters to casuals who don’t want to farm specific enemies for specific loot. It caters to “in the know” players who like farming specific loot from specific enemies and then all in all, the world drop pool staying large with high drop rates means all players can be happy when unexpected legendaries drop from a mob or loot splosion or chest

    So far I like the grenades in B2 more than in B3, but I am only on level 21, so my opinion may change. I am not excited about any grenade I have got yet. Basically one grenade in B3 only damages enemies, whereas in B2 one grenade will kill one or more of the bad guys.

    I would love for them to add the ability to favorite builds, so you don't have to constantly empty the tree, and re allocate points. I would love to switch from my Elementalist build to your Sheriff Amara build, but having to empty the skill tree, and then go through my screenshots to re allocate points is such a pain. I also think it would also be cool to add a respec station before a boss fight so you can look at your library of builds for that character, and select the one that would be best for that fight.

    One quick thing:
    Zane’s digi clone doesn’t suffer the same issues as all other pet classes. It actually does have skills that help it compensate for difficulty increases, and generally receives most of the buffs that Zane himself gets. The issue for the digiclone is uniquely not because of scaling. This is actually a result of the AI not tracking targets as well as other pet builds and not taking full advantage of a weapons fire rate.
    The digiclone scales almost perfectly with zane. I went for the clone tree for my first play through and towards the end I felt like I traded in my pet for an actual player (albeit a pretty crappy one).

  • @Mrnevertalks
    @Mrnevertalks Před 4 lety +2

    15:35 The stat boosts are the most important aspect of buffing Fl4k's pets though. I have the closest thing I've seen to a pure pet build: 7/5 Frenzy, spiderant scorchers, barbaric Yawp, every pet damage boosting skill except for pack tactics and Power Inside. Even with my build, my pet struggles to hit 5000 damage. The real powerhouse is the spiderant's lava pool, which has done up to 1500 a tick. It does damage if enemies stay within the area, but that isn't a simple task without the red fang mod.
    Even using the new terror anointment that adds 50% damage as fire to pets, they only melee for 3000-4000 total with a build and classmod tailored to them. And that is with matching elements, which only the spiderant can do. The Skag tops out around 2500-3000. With atomic aroma you can bring their DPS past 5000, but then Atomic Aroma is doing the majority of the work due to its AOE and fast tick rate.
    It doesn't matter if the pets scale off of gear if their base numbers are too low. Right now, with over 100% damage from the skill tree, 30% multiplicative bonus elemental damage, 56% multiplier from Frenzy, and the new terror anointment adding another 50% as fire, they top out at 3 or 4 thousand. With Gamma Burst adding another 75% as radiation damage, they can reach a bit higher (too many numbers on screen to tell with certainty, but maybe 6000-6500, although occasionally 8000 is possible). But my westergun does 10k at a fire rate of over 6 bullets per second. My pets do a about a quarter of my damage per pellet, which I appreciate, but for them to be in a good spot I need them to do 25 % of my total DPS, enough that I will miss them if they disappear. At the moment, I miss them because I miss out on damage and revives, not because I miss their contribution to my damage.
    I appreciate the amount of personality that GB put into FL4K's pets. I like that they each have their own dedicated role and utility. I can appreciate the different circumstances each pet is most effective in. However, in no other game has GB given an aspect of a characters kit so many ways to improve its damage and still have it be inconsequential. The only skills they seem to have intended the pets to do damage with was attack commands, since those have the biggest multipliers, and those are clunky and unresponsive. The badass DigiJacks didn't need bolster to take on Badasses. Wolf didn't need Rolling Thunder to do so either. Fl4k's pets need Gamma Burst just to deal with trash quickly. This is ALMOST entirely an issue of scaling. Adding another 100% multiplier to the pets would only increase their damage by 1000 (because the fire anointment only adds 500). Considering their slow rate of attack, slow movement speed, and limited utility outside of giving you healing and Frenzy stacks (which is vitally important, don't get me wrong), an extra 1000 damage is not going to make or break their usefulness.
    I just want to be able to spend 48 skill points and have a pet that can approach me in power. Gaige, Jack, and Wilhelm all had that. We just need GB to make it happen for FL4K.

  • @Medyazgeflyzer
    @Medyazgeflyzer Před 4 lety +2

    I agree with having assigned drops still world drop. Especially considering the upcoming dungeon-like Takedown having bosses broken up by mobbing segments. There’s a certain excitement associated with world drops that exists in BL3 because you might find that drop you’re looking for from literally anything, but there’s also the unfortunate nature of being at the whim of RNG.
    The only thing I’m scared of is the precedent set by the anniversary event pools for item types. Farming Demoskaggon, Force Troopers, Gorgon Queen were fruitless relative to efficient world drop sources like Slaughter Shaft and Graveward. There’s just so many potential rolls for shield types/parts/anoints, artifact type combos/passives, class mod types/skills/passives, that with a BL2-esque 10% chance for A drop, you still needed thousands of runs to find something close to what you’re looking for from those sources.

    • @jamesgent5897
      @jamesgent5897 Před 4 lety

      Medyazgeflyzer yeah I agree. I want a BL2 loot pool system, mixed with a BL1 remaster world drop system. So casual players aren’t deprived of legendaries, in the know characters are catered with specific locations for specific loot, and all players can get the welcomed suprise or random world drops showing up in random places

    • @OldGoat-cw8he
      @OldGoat-cw8he Před 4 lety

      I agree 100% on your assessment of the event specific farming. They didn't impact the drop rates enough to really even notice that they were supposed to be dropping class mods, for instance. I actually did better pure RNG Graveward drops on class mods than I did target farming for them during the event. If they are going to have dedicated sources then they shouldn't have a worse drop rate than a random boss farm.

    Great vid Derch, the fact that the community can genuinely impact the future of this game is a big deal. Loved the idea of giving proving grounds and slaughter shaft unique drops but in particular proving grounds as they significantly less appealing for gear farming compared to slaughter shaft. Adding to this, I’d like to see each proving grounds have a higher chance to drop certain items at the highest mayhem level, this would give people incentive to actually play these arenas which were hyped up before launch to be an exciting, challenging end game source of loot but in reality is pretty underwhelming compared to slaughter shaft. So much potential for proving grounds that I feel hasn’t been realised yet, hopefully we see a positive change for them

    The idea with assigned drops for special mobs is pretty good, For example we could assign the shock-bound legendaries to special mobs/minibosses in Lectra City or have items like the Back Ham have an increased chance of dropping from Guardians on their planet. I wouldn't mind if they gave some bosses multiple drops as we already had that. For example how about having Gigamind being the source for multiple science/intelligence-based guns like the Boring Gun, the Musket and so on? And how about giving some bosses that have currently just 1 drop 2 to 4 instead (Mouthpiece could have all the "music" guns, which might include the Hellwalker)? On Mayhem 2/3 legendaries drop often enough that it wouldn't make farming too tedious.
    But I would also "free" the legendaries that are exclusive to specific enemies, so that everything could drop as a world drop as well, but hunting for specific enemies would still be rewarding as you would know what you get and how to get it.
    Regarding the pets: Fl4k has enough ways to keep their pets alive, but they lack in damage and that was even the case on normal mode very early game. One reason for that is that Gearbox gave the pets very low damage output to not throw off the balance of early game parties. However the bonuses the pets can get are not enough to stay relevant (damage-wise) on Mayhem levels, which is why I think that the pet bonuses at the end of the master tree should have been bigger, especially "Endurance". In addition to that I think that "Dominance" while an awesome skill in concept, does nothing for the playstyle (and role-play-wise it even conflicts with Fl4ks character, but thats besides the point). I would have given "Dominance" a secondary effect to spur the pet on while you have a "sub", which should give the pet a multiplicative damage buff. Because, as of right now the best damage build for the pet goes without Gamma Burst, but with the Gunslinger Jabber and "The Power inside".
    Moze has the problem that IB isn't a secondary entity, but she becomes Iron Bear, so that thing should do damage and have a lot of armor. It doesn't need the dozens of fuel bonuses we have right now as it doesn't survive that long, it needs damage and survival. My idea was to have Iron Bear have multiple healthgates, so that each time a massive attack comes in, it only looses a set amount of armor (20% of its base). The Bubble shield should have a capacity and also reduce the damage IB takes when it gets broken, so that it basically works as a fifth healthgate. I would lower the base amount of fuel IB has by around 50% to increase its damage big time, so that IB feels like a short burst of badassery instead of an "O shit"-button.
    Zane needs more damage for his drone and/or ideally a reduction in cooldown time. The longer cooldown of the SNTNL does throw off the rhythm of some builds, which makes it not really the best action skill, even though in theory it should be. His clone is already in a much better place than before and can be an effective tool, but you need to know where to place it or it gets rushed down. Here a slight increase in health as well as maybe a 30% damage increase would be enough. But the pets aren't Zane's problem, its his own damage output and some weird skill behavior. If he had some more damage in his "Under Cover" and "Doubled Agent" tree as well as making "Violent Violence" less of a disgrace of a skill (20% Fire Rate on a 5-point kill skill? Really? Give it gun damage!), then he could be strong enough. Also, Anointed being immune to cryo damage isn't making it any better. They should really think about that again honestly.

    On the topic of FL4K's pets and damage that doesn't scale with gear in general, FL4K's rakks can do really good damage on Mayhem 3 because they get FL4K's neutral damage boosts and certain augments on COMs and gear, namely incendiary damage and splash. They actually do to a degree. Certain mayhem modifier effect the pets (both melee and gun, though I'm not sure which gun perks specifically). It's actually beautiful when you get one of those positive modifiers, pets start doing 3000-400 damage at base, easily taking care of trash mobs without much help and without needing Gamma Burst. With Gamma Burst, they can do a tremendous amount of damage to badasses.
      It needs to be a universal multiplier to effect the pets though, meaning it can't just be something that applies to Fl4k only. Outside of the bonuses on the pets themselves, only mayhem modifiers can apply this boost to them.

  • @eu4um
    @eu4um Před 4 lety

    I think a cool thing to have as far as loot drops should go, if there are 60 bosses/unique enemies in the game, and each one can drop 1 Legendary Gun and 1 Legendary Gun and 1 Legendary Item, that means that 120 of the 200+ have a dedicated source. The remaining 80+ legendaries COULD be all world drops, but you could even split that up further by having 20-40 of those remaining legendaries be put into exclusively Loot enemy pools, like the Pearls in BL2. And if you want it to be more like BL1’s drops, you could take some of the remaining guns and items and put them into specific Badasses (ie. SMG’s and AR’s for regular Badasses, Shotguns and RLaunchers for Heavy Badasses, etc)
    There’s definitely a lot of room to create Variability in Legendary drops, I just hope they keep the drop rates where they at and don’t lower it again lol

    The thing that frustrates me the most about mayhem is how non elemental damage gets screwed, there are more modifiers affecting it negatively compared to anything else. I have a lot of good gear for fun sniper Fl4k build, but playing it is a chore. Even trying to reset is annoying, because you're almost guaranteed to get non elemental nerf

  • @someoldguyinhawaii4960

    My main problem with Mayhem mode is that the chance for equally positive mods means that Mayhem 3 is not always harder than Mayhem 2 - and 2 is not always harder than 1. There's a little bit too much randomness involved there. Instead of progressively greater difficulty, you get progressively more random swings in advantageous or disadvantageous modifiers. It's - well - it's Mayhem! There's something to be said for that, and I do enjoy it (usually) - but I think the degree of difficulty as you go up should be a little more consistent.

I don't want to spend that much time watching loading screens. I tend to just play with whatever modifiers I get unless they're truly awful for my loadout, but still.
    Having such vastly different modifiers does kind of exacerbate the lack of bank space too. I like to keep cool gear around even if I'm not using it anyway, but having to keep multiple entire builds around so I can switch on the fly without spending 15 minutes in front of the bank and in loading screens between characters really pushes the limits we have. Also the jabber with smg i wish i could switch which one he has thats all.for mayhem i have an idea be able to turn it on and off from anywhere and each time you switch it on and off the mods change. Oh and the weapon grinder would be an awesome addition i think gives a chance to turn eridium and guns we arent using into something we want or will go hmmm wonder what this will do. I watched the whole Twitch stream w/ Moxsy the other day. Lots of good discussion, but most BL CCs are ignoring the elephant in the room, no not the nerfs; the incessant little bugs that really subtract from the QOL in the game, and the others that break builds or things that don't work as intended. AbbyHour posted a 7 min video on multiple build smashing bugs regarding FL4K's pets, a member of BL: The Complete Picture found a bug where the +1 to Experimental Munitions on a Moze mod was not yielding the +20% bonus fire damage it was still only 10%, they in- or unintentionally broke Moze's Vampyr-her only healing skill, countless hours lost in SlaughterShaft/Star and CoS to restarts due to enemies glitching into walls after they spawn, the list goes on. I say to GB the same thing I said to Massive regarding The Division2: Before you even THINK of giving me any new content that may or may not be as glitch ridden as your base, or worrying that a few pieces of gear are a little OP: FIX YOUR SHIT! I didn't pat $100 to be a BETA tester....and this Haunted garbage goes till December?! I'm tired of it already. Assigned loot drops are ok if the drop rate is rewarding. Killing one enemy 20x to get specific item is just mindless, i would rather get that item as a world drop just by killing mob enemies, assuming drop rate is high enough and gear is well balanced. I'm totally fine with the current state of drop system being similar to BL1 cause I think it was actually better. Instead of killing Terry 500 times to get a decent Hide i would totally just use gib to fully enjoy the best playstyle BL2 can offer. Although as you said the game needs more well designed mobbing maps, the Dust is fantastic example for that, easily one of my fav. Personally im disappointed that Athenas has just one map...

If you fully spec into 2 pet skills it gets a 20% dmg boost. If you fully spec into 3 it gets 20% dmg and 5% health regen etc. I think that would be a good solution because it doesn't make your pet too OP early game either because you don't have all these skill points. I think they already have the system ready for adding specific drops to specific bosses/enemies - even multiple drops. How many times have you killed Beans and gotten multiple Westerguns? Personally I've gotten 3 to drop from him at once. All they need to do is keep that system, with a roll per item in their pool (maybe with lower chances than they are currently, cuz seriously, 3 legendaries from a side quest named enemy is a little nuts), so we know that if we only get a drop that we don't want, it didn't take the place of the thing we wanted to drop. Crowded loot pools don't have to suck. Maybe I'm mangling exactly what's going on behind the scenes in the afore-mentioned Beans drops, but I thought that's how they had set up the raid boss from Lilith's DLC - IIRC, it had multiple rolls for its legendary/rainbow drops, so getting one drop wasn't a zero-sum game with the rest of its loot pool.

They should add one or two items for every boss and let the others to the world drop pool and make them more frequent for world drops. And they should increase the chance for rare bosses (roadhog for example) to spawn, I don't know the percentage, but it should be 50%.

    I'm also a bit worried if they shift the grind from "do what you like" to "farm this dude over and over". One way i believe could work is the leave the world drop pool as it is right now, but add designated categories to bosses and activites. E.g Graveward could have a higher chance to drop shields, tyreen could have a higher chance to drop SMG's, Rampager could have s higher chance to drop heavies etc etc. Let's just throw random numbers out there for the sake of discussion, say tyreen have a 10% chance to drop a legendary from the world drop pool, she would also have a 20% chance to drop a random SMG. Makes sense? I think it could be cool and still reward people like me who prefer to just play the game and still get rewarded.
    About moze's iron bear, FL4Ks pets - they have issues, but it's absolutely as you say when people want them stronger without actually invest in them.. but i'm a moze main, believe me i've tried make iron bear work and i've suceeded if the modifiers alligned perfectly. But it would never actually compete with moze herself in those situations. I think moze needs a lot of work to get into a good spot. She only got maybe 2 really good class mods and 1 decent (mind sweeper) and 2 kind of really bad ones. I could see them change class mods a bit, especially since some of them makr certain builds super strong. I feel moze' nerfs have been because of her bloodletter mod. Instead of changing it, they went after the skillls that syenergies with it insanely well... which only hurts her other builds that might use the same skill but not clsss mod.

    The issue I take with the underlying message as expressed in the first few minutes is this: an idea only needs a few dedicated proponents to create a vocal minority. That vocal minority can create work, to put it plainly, for people who do not want a change in some particular area.
    There are several opinions that you express which I disagree with vehemently, and I believe I see the underlying theory that justifies them as a family (see: all the features which make the game unsolvable that you constantly criticize). Just because Gearbox isn't comfortable advocating for their original position doesn't mean I should have to on the forums. I don't want to sell Gearbox's positions without being on their payroll.
    I don't mean any disrespect, and I'm not saying you need to exhaust the conversation yourself, but the conversation might be healthier if partisan language like "we need x" or "y is bad, z would be better" were prefaced as being partisan, or just substituted with their underlying arguments and you allowing the conclusions to be self-evident.
    You hold these conclusions, and you have the enthusiasm to leverage your platform. But you don't speak for everyone. Please be mindful of that.

      @@Derchlands That's fair. You have spoken for yourself, and you've encouraged me to do the same. I'll concede that point and simply renew my final appeal.
      The second paragraph is appealing to a family of features which all serve to make the game difficult to "solve". They include:
      Severe mayhem modifiers serving to force the adoption of varied or flexible strategies
      No target dummy serving to prolong the period where game mechanics remain unknown
      Few dedicated loot drops serving to make it difficult to create how-tos on how to replicate another person's build
      Limited storage to force players to try builds which are only selecting from an incomplete menu
      Randomized passives on shields, coms, and relics to prevent one-size-fits-all best-in-slots
      These features each lead me to believe gearbox doesn't want a solvable game. They want a game open to hands-on experimentation and unique to each player. Their campaign to ensure every item is meticulously balanced with its peers seems to be in concert with these goals--if any reasonable approach is equally viable, the game doesn't *need* solving.

    • @ms.aelanwyr.ilaicos
      @ms.aelanwyr.ilaicos Před 4 lety

      @@Derchlands I see the paragraph at issue has two points. How imprecise of me. My other point is that game design is not self-evidently either a democracy or an adversarial process. There is a danger that excessive zeal will end a conversation before all interested parties are even aware an adverse change to the current system is something they should be mobilizing against--precisely because the process is not a democratic one. Were the process democratic, it would presumably reach a broader audience of more diverse views.
      Relatedly, Gearbox has not been advocating for "unpopular" features of the game, merely addressing those complaints they hear most loudly. Because those with the fewest complaints have the least incentive to step in to fill that gap in adversarialism, I am not confident we are getting the best outcomes at the greatest efficiency using your proposed method. Instead, I see it producing a pendulum effect at best, where the other camp of enfranchised players mobilize in the opposite direction at a certain point, or a repellant effect at worst, where parties satisfied with the early design philosophy of the game gravitate away as vocal interests have their narrow needs met

    • @ms.aelanwyr.ilaicos
      @ms.aelanwyr.ilaicos Před 4 lety

      @@Derchlands I suppose I'd just add one more thought. I have listed five features that you dislike that are all in service of a goal which can be explained in a sentence or two. It appears to be a concerted design philosophy. I would be more amenable to your criticisms (and since I am a subscriber, you can infer I am already very amenable to them) if they were rooted in a design philosophy--Derch's Vision for Borderlands 3, as it were.
      It's easy to lose the forest for the trees in conversations like the ones we are having surrounding these issues. I believe you do an excellent job in this video in your discussion of pet balancing. The viability of any one aspect of a character should come at an opportunity cost. Yes, perfect, that is a principle that we can attempt to come to some consensus on. People calling for a pet buff with no principles underlying their demand? There's no conversation there. Unless Gearbox just polls us, asking, "should pets be buffed," they have no roadmap for what people really want, just a single datapoint in a sea of voices. We need to find the underlying principles we can agree on so we can receive something truly satisfactory to a wide audience.

    I really want cosmetics to be removed from the loot pool once they're unlocked. And just a reminder for some of the people in this community, crying about nerfs is not constructive change, it's just pointless bitching.

    I'm definitely not on the Borderlands 2 side of loot drops. Although there were dedicated sources drop rates were way to low, which is why loot midgets were such a big thing. I like the drop rates we have now, especially if you want to get a specific version of a weapon and need to get the drop many, many times.

    Why not just almost infinite personal bank space, say 9999 slots. Why even add some arbitrary limit?

      Because guns in the bank or backpack take resources, resources are not unlimited.

      @@Derchlands ok but I would say that the information about a gun isn't that big, its just some numbers. However thinking about it I bet that the menu lag would be crazy with too many guns being loaded.

    This video really fell on deaf ears. This is what MAK has been trying to tell everyone recently. And what do you know? One of the other classic BL2 CZcamsrs made a video telling just the same thing years ago. WE can CHANGE the game. Gearbox can and has listened to us. Now all the new trash creators were paid off and the entire borderlands community thinks there’s no reason to say anything. That we can’t change anything. And they have been so damn brainwashed that nobody wants gearbox to make the games better. It’s absolutely insane how disgustingly stupid this has all become. Community wants shit games that last for a year, the devs are half adding the games, and the content creators are just sitting there waiting for the next sponsorship. If it was sunshine and rainbows then all of the old Borderlands CZcamsrs wouldn’t have left (or got fired). They knew and still know that we could have such a better experience. Yet…as said…the community…has lost the plot.

    Hey, remember when I commented on your Amara vid because I wanted to have a legitimate discussion about the flaws in the game, which greatly disappointed me, and you shut it down?
    You're being a hypocrite. I was trying to support the channel of a content creator who I learned from and respected, doing EXACTLY what you're suggesting people do (except on a channel, not the forums. Personally, I think having discussions on a channel is also effective.)
    Encourage people to try to influence the game going forward, or stop discussion about legitimate gripes with this, objectively, very flawed game.
    Pick. One.

      He must have realized he was wrong considering his channel is dead now.
