I feel both of you. I am myself a fan and an addicted to the Delta S4 supecharger and turbocharger sound... I love all Group B!!!! Those were the greatest times of Rallying! Cheers!
All the Cars in Group B waz Perfect...The Drivers Were the Gods and the Sound is like A 1000 HP Concert...One day they Will come back and i will be there to see the Legents Ride and Drift again!! Cheers From Los Angeles!!
The sound of the Audi R5...in the final Evo-version in the Group B rallies...man, what a sound... An orchestra for kings, as it goes from low revs to the redline... I've heard it at a local track here in Norway, and it leaves me speechless.. Beats almost anything out there :)
The T16 last corner in the film... was just beautiful. Most of what I miss of rallying was the endurance side of it, the enormous stages and the intermediate road stages, the times when fx the RAC went right round the UK. Group B were absolute monsters, but they are really the equivalent of a muscle car :P
It's amazing how as these cars evolve that the front ends start to look like they have cowpushers on them to get the people out the way. Very nice video!!!
I just saw this video to have the confirmation of what I already know: Lancia Delta s4 is simply the best of all these cars. I can say this by hearing his perfect sound at every phase of the accelerationand by seeing how perfectly it flies on every condition of the road. sorry to all for my english, but i MUST say to you all what I've ever known about this perfect car.
most of the tarmac sections are at the old Portugal rally, back in the 80's, in the Sintra stage. This road still exists but no rally goes thru it nowadays...Still, great place to go!
de très belles images... ça fait plaisir de revoir ce genres de courses ! au moins on voit les pilotes ! pas d'électronique, alors que maintenant tout est asceptisé !!!
ah mate... i don't think you're biased... i think you have a passion for the Audi's (like myself) They made history when they introduced 4-wheel drive in Rallying (early 80's)... everyone thought it was too difficult to do so, but they did it. The S1 Quattro was also the first rally to be turbo-charged. To this day, the sound of that 5-cylinder turbo charged animal sends a chill down my spine... & continues to give me goose bumps out of control. "Group B Pure Sound" videos = Addiction Cheers
Well, what you're saying is partially true. The Group B cars would probably smoke most of the new cars on some tracks because they weighed less and had double the power. But since then, huge advancements have been made with suspensions and differentials. They can go much harder through corners nowadays. I wouldn't call the drivers of today less skilled than those during the 80's. But they certainly did have to compensate for the car back then.
the very last clip is the best, that 205 was close to the end of the gearbox prob 100-120mph in forest on loose road. its a shame we will never see these again
For those who cannot remember the era, here are the timings for FIRST appearances of each car: 0.08: Lancia Rallye 037 Evoluzione 0.17: Renault 5 Turbo 0.21: Lancia Delta S4 0.30: Audi Quattro Sport 0.53: Peugeot 205T16 E2 1.10: MG Metro 6R4 1.30: Peugeot 205T16 (early version) 1.39: Ford Escort RS2000 (Gp4 car) 1.47: Audi Quattro Sport S1 1.53: Porsche 911 variant lol 1.58: Toyota Turbowhatsit 2.53: Opel Manta 400 4.13: Ford RS200 The End
Tony Pond on the original Portugal incident: 'one inch either side and you're into the crowd: I'm not prepared to do this'. Markku Alen 'I not go any further' It was the spectators in the southern European countries who killed GpB (and also Lancia's 'magic', which mean't that the S4 ended up as a very quick petrol bomb...')
I cannot remember his name, but 2 years ago i visited the rally of Catalunya under the guidance of a former belgian group B driver. He told me that Loeb had tried a group B car once and that a suberp driver as Loeb is, he just could not imagine that people once raced these machines on the same roads Loeb now drives his Citroen. I was told he came out and said the following: I was scared, these cars have to be a joke they cannot be driven by normal people only by heroes
Yes Matsoukeos its a Toyota at 2:00 and its a Opel Manta 400 at 2:55 I love Group B! I love Group B so much I have all Group B pure Sounds movies.. GREAT WORK Josti88 5stars agen, no qustion about that.
I'm lucky enough to be as old as some of these cars, and there isn't a current car out there today, that can hold a candle to these cars of the era.Drivers now are tucked up in bed by 10pm,whereas drivers then went non stop for up to 4 days, which tested their stamina, especially with machinery that could churn out 500bhp+.Yes they could be dangerous, but by fuck were they spectacular.Even the humble 6R4 could have been better with more development.Shame it never was.Long live Group B.
Surely the greatest era in motorsport. Would be fun just to see Rohrl, Mikkola, Salonen, Kankkunen and co let loose in those cars now: they'd still run rings around the kids of today!! As for the lack of music, I couldn't agree more. Competition cars a a TOTAL experience, including the music (made by the engine/gearbox, not some stupid band)...
For me, the cars that had the best sound was the Lancia Delta S4(0:20), Audi Quattro(1:46 and 3:57) and Peugeot 205(2:13). They Didn't sound like just cars, they sounded like F1 cars on dirt!!! I hope that someday, cars like these will return and compete in WRC. Thanks for the video!!5 stars 4 u!!!
They should bring back a similar class with less limitations. It will give manufacturers a lot of room to move and test their capabilities. This will bring back the power and with todays technology, anything can happen....
The current WRCars have a restriction in the turbo's inlet, so that's why they don't have this sound and power. The works Ford team says they would reach easily the 700bhp with their new Focus if the restriction wasn't there. Back in the Group B times there were no restriction, both in the turbo and the engine size/layout.
Most of this clips are from the portuguese rally!! Eventually group B era came to an end during the ´86 rally after a rs2000 mauled into the public... During the eighties, crowding rally roads was quite a national sport
conti.. 2 When Senna died, they did not ban GP cars, their speeds went up and up. What they did do was make it safer. Change certain dangerous corners etc. Improved vehicle safety and crash absorbing materials. WRC cars are just as fast on twisty stages, so what is the difference. My humble opinion is that it was easier for FISA to turn their backs, rather than tackle the problem. P.S. Sorry for going on a bit.
even without any driver aids these MEN still threw these cars around like they were rag dolls.... just shows that the real drivers were from the years gone by.....
i'm agree grunn15!!! these are the best cars ever!!! what a time!! what a noize!! what a cars and what a drivers!!! respect!!! sorry for my englis!! greetz from ypres(belgium) and josti88 great videos!!!
These cars are fucking insane compared to the cars nowadays.. Damn Why didn't i born like in the 70's.. Like rly.. delta s4 accelerated from 0-100kmh in 2.9seconds that's a dream car in my opinion..
This sounds perverse, but one of the most exciting sounds of the period was a Lancia S4 doing about 10mph in a service area: bangs, coughs, squeals, hisses: truly a caged animal!!!
I love how the spectators literally stand in the track and leg it just before the screaming machine bears down on them. Playing dangerous chicken. I bet now in WRC people probably stand 20 feet away behind a 15 foot high fence.
In Africa, they just about did. The first car through on a stage would be going slowly and pushing people out of the way, and deaths were all too common (say, a kid runs across the road, their younger siblings follow, and get hit). Or so I read in Gran Prix International late in the Group B era.
I understand what you are saying, but the main reason the Group B ere ended was the crash which killed Henri Toivonen. The cars had become too powerful and too many accidents were happening. The Toivonen crash was the last straw. He crashed and the car caught fire and he and his co-driver died. I totally agree about the spectators though, it's crazy to stand so close.
engines were amazing, but for a short while only, at full throttle you could only get 10 hours use out of 1 before a complete overhaul and rebuild was needed. but yea i agree what power and noise!
conti.. from previous. If you think about it GP cars were just a dangerous then. There were many options to slows the "roads" to make it safer such as chicanes etc. The rallies were to long, and this could have been shortened as well. The 1987 group A cars were just as (if not more) dangerous than G.B. It was just a lack of wanting to do something which killed Group B, not the cars themselves. FISA also wanted GP to be the premier sport and i believe this to be a big part of NOT BOTHERING.
quem me dera ter nascido a tempo de ver estas maquinas a puxarem ali em sintra... o wrc devia era organizar eventos especiais, para trazer de volta estes carroes ás estradas da serra
I feel both of you. I am myself a fan and an addicted to the Delta S4 supecharger and turbocharger sound... I love all Group B!!!! Those were the greatest times of Rallying!

tooo Good ! All our VHS tapes with classic rallies are gone but thank for all the great mems on you tube
The sound of the Audi R5...in the final Evo-version in the Group B rallies...man, what a sound... An orchestra for kings, as it goes from low revs to the redline...
I've heard it at a local track here in Norway, and it leaves me speechless..
Beats almost anything out there :)
Thank you m8 for this excelent video about these amazing cars.
The best machines and the best pilots ever... Group B i miss you so much!!!
The T16 last corner in the film... was just beautiful.
Most of what I miss of rallying was the endurance side of it, the enormous stages and the intermediate road stages, the times when fx the RAC went right round the UK. Group B were absolute monsters, but they are really the equivalent of a muscle car :P
sintra, portugal!! brilliant video mate, finally people with the sense to just let us enjoy the wonderful sound of these engines! cheers!
0:29 goddamn those pendulum swings... They made them look so easy, even with the understeer mess that car was.
great cars, great sound and great drivers
this is really the old school of rally driving
i like the great 2 videos od GroupB
It's amazing how as these cars evolve that the front ends start to look like they have cowpushers on them to get the people out the way. Very nice video!!!
"Pure Sound"... yes indeed ... Thanks for keeping the sound pure!
one of the greatest videos of all time.
I just saw this video to have the confirmation of what I already know: Lancia Delta s4 is simply the best of all these cars. I can say this by hearing his perfect sound at every phase of the accelerationand by seeing how perfectly it flies on every condition of the road. sorry to all for my english, but i MUST say to you all what I've ever known about this perfect car.
brings back memories of dark nights standing in welsh forrests.....pitty we moved away from them times
Gotta love that noise, absolutely amazing
Group B Celica at 1:58 Good find, good find. Thanks so much for posting this video. It is a great compilation.
Group B Engines + WRC suspension = eighth wonder of the world :)
most of the tarmac sections are at the old Portugal rally, back in the 80's, in the Sintra stage. This road still exists but no rally goes thru it nowadays...Still, great place to go!
Your video brought tears of joy to my eyes and pleasured my ears!!!
de très belles images... ça fait plaisir de revoir ce genres de courses ! au moins on voit les pilotes ! pas d'électronique, alors que maintenant tout est asceptisé !!!
so awsome, that puts a tear im my eye.....those were the days
It's actually a Ford Escort MKII. Some of those cars were converted into lower class Group B, that where homologated until 1985.
The sound of this cars said: GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!
Thank you for this video
that little pug at 1:20 sounds incredible. and the one at 2:25 sounds like old turbo F1 car. wow what great cars
ah mate... i don't think you're biased... i think you have a passion for the Audi's (like myself) They made history when they introduced 4-wheel drive in Rallying (early 80's)... everyone thought it was too difficult to do so, but they did it. I wish i could find more compilations of interesting subjects in general that are not dubbed with someone's lousy favourite song(s). Much appreciated.
yep, those were the days my friends.....unfortunatly, they did end :( Long live group B!!

Rally of Portugal Group B...Simply the Best of pure rally
For me, the cars that had the best sound was the Lancia Delta S4(0:20), Audi Quattro(1:46 and 3:57) and Peugeot 205(2:13). They Didn't sound like just cars, they sounded like F1 cars on dirt!!! I hope that someday, cars like these will return and compete in WRC. Thanks for the video!!5 stars 4 u!!!

CHEERS!!CHEEERS! Finally a rally video with pure motor sounds! I am sick of the other rally videos drowned out by lame music.

The crowds are amazing, the drivers have balls the size watermelon
idk how these drivers are soo good and how they get thoes cars soo lose on the tarmac...amazing

I bet now in WRC people probably stand 20 feet away behind a 15 foot high fence.
Pure machines the greatest rally cars of all time true cars and true drivers
At 3:39,this is No.6 car Lancia 037 Rally, San Remo 1985, Markku Alen... Henri Toivonen drove no.1 car, also 037 Rally.
You gotta love that 6R4!
In Africa, they just about did. The first car through on a stage would be going slowly and pushing people out of the way, and deaths were all too common (say, a kid runs across the road, their younger siblings follow, and get hit). Or so I read in Gran Prix International late in the Group B era.
Thank you so much.
omg, at 3.05, you see the manta going into the corner, but already hear the wastegate of an Audi, what a sound!!
My god people were ballsy back then. Love the sounds of these beasts. So demonic.
Love the sound!!! Proper racing!!
the metro looked like a box but it was a bloody fast one!
For the looks the Lancia, for the sound the Audi.

i think both... brilliant idiots...
quem me dera ter nascido a tempo de ver estas maquinas a puxarem ali em sintra... o wrc devia era organizar eventos especiais, para trazer de volta estes carroes ás estradas da serra
1:27 is pure music. In my opinion the Audi has the best sound EVER. All Group B has great but the Audi is just.. ahh...
