- I just bought a motorcycle that looks like a jet, but doesn't fly! The Pulse Autocycle is a super rare motorcycle that was created in the 1980s. The Autocycle was made to be a super efficient, safe motorcycle for the future. It even starred in Back To The Future 2!

I suspect the reason these never took off was due to the wings being too short.
clever
🚀🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂
These are the type of jokes that i like underrated comment💯😂
If you got it going fast enough it would fly, but it would have the glide ratio of of grand piano.
"Motorcycle of THE FUTURE!!"
**Engine and suspension of the Flintstones**
isn't that Harley's motto???
Presenting: the livewire
And apparently brakes too
If it leaned into turns, it’d be perfect. A similar concept at Epcot Center but 3 wheels.
@@qdllc Heard about Mercedes Lifejet f300¿?
This one definitely looks like it was last used on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Last time I rode my BMX out there for a photo shoot, I didn't rinse the bike. As soon as I got to Tahoe, my chain, and any other steel parts were rusted... Thanks for saving this!
Unfortunately it is a victim of being stored in a closed box container, they are humidity traps and get hot and cold which just makes it condense and over time just makes it wet as hell on the inside. I've seen them rot from the inside out without a single leak.
@@SilvaDreams Yep. We had a very nice R1 stored in a storage container. Totally ruined it. White flaky stuff just like seen on the Pulse Autocycle. Really sad.
Thank you! Your words really moved me. "If your not sure about trying things that you're not sure you can do, the YOU are the one who is failing! " VERY WISE!
Craig is right, airplanes do generally crash once
And then its brand new
but any part that can fly again will ..

Yeah ask flight 93
Lmao
This is going to be the most epic LS swap ever.
Yes
Not sure about fitting it in there and keep the body work the same
Putting s1000rr motor in it 😂
Absolutely
I was thinking that a hayabusa engine would be pretty ambitious but i now realize i was aiming too low lol.
I rode in one of these when I was about 12. It was owned by Coors, a beer co. It was the Coors Silver Bullet. My much older brother worked for a local distributer and somehow ended up driving the thing home long enough to take me for a ride. I had forgotten all about that until I saw this. Thanks.
I grew up driving by one of these on my way to my aunts house, thanks for bringing back memories.
Sean those purple flames add horsepower ask any 17 year old in the uk
The other day i saw a TX4 (british taxi car) with flames painted on it for sale in the US.
@@brocoliobama if you need a British Black Cab (BBC for ease of conversation) always get one with flames, they get you to your destination quicker
You’ll have to go back in time a good 25 years for that lol
That was a mid 90s 17 year olds car
@@williamjagkenny5977 I was a passenger in a purple one in Santa Fe a couple of years ago (it belonged to an hotal). Oddly it didn't make me feel that I was suddenly at home (London)...
Breaking my heart, cannibalizing that pristine old Yammer :(
That was terrible... that yamaha looked perfect.
Would have sooner run the yammie home 🏡
Maybe the Yammie lives; all we saw was them pulling the gas tank before they gave up on the swap.
My thoughts exactly. Stopped watching after that.
Me too, that exact bike was one of the first bikes I ever rode. My friend bought one when we were both in high school when it was a new bike. We did a lot of miles on that bike.
im no mortorcycle finatic. having said that this isnt the first of your videos that ive watched and tbh your enthusiam and passion for what you do is infectious. Subscribed
I remember seeing these on display at the mall rotunda way back in the mid 80's and I always wondered what happened to them. I was blown away when I saw them back then and they just disappeared off the map.
Man, Craig is really a man's man. Dude got clobbered by a ditch and he's still getting it!
you should see that ditch walking around town, acting all big and tough talking trash on craig
Hi bruh
what vid does he get thrown into a ditch

That thing would look sick with a USAF Thunderbird paint scheme.
I saw photos of USAF (Boom?) Trike, amazing looking in that colour scheme

Your all wrong. It would look the best with a red arrows paint job FOR sure.
@@erickdavepascua6880 yeah man blue angels bro I’m remember watching them at the air shows in San Diego
@@My_AviationChannel THE best in the world.
Wow. My dad was a dealer for these in Fort Worth TX. Later models had increased engine size and they included a reverse gear but it was too late. By that time the jury was out and it was widely known as being underpowered and it took two people to jockey the thing out of a parking space. But it sure was a lot of fun. Got looks everywhere you went.
I would bet your dad sold one to a fellow in NRH. I have rental properties in that city and there's an old dude who drives one around all the time.
I KNOW who you mean !
Not “ personally “ , but I’ve seen it at Walmart on Precinct Line !
In the ( last ) 5 years - I have NOT seen it .
I’ve taken numerous pictures of it ; I’ve ALWAYS wanted to speak to that man who owns it , but never had the opportunity !
You still have one ?
Saw one outside the Detroit Auto show. Yes. Way back then in the 80's.
I love this kind of content. Even though I finding myself yelling "JUST BRING A TRAILER, DUDE," at the screen of my phone like a psycho.
And then I see you have a perfectly good truck and trailer. And I slowly realize that I am not the psycho in this situation.
The hacksmith made the “self laceing shoes” and still making the hoverboard from back to the future! Lol

I remember when those came out. The ones I saw had a large tail fin. I thought they were really really cool. Congratulations!
Great video, I had a coworker that had started a home built BD-5 Kit plane. We where going to take the fuselage use a Volkswagen front suspension and salvage a CB750 shaft drive that was totaled in the front end. I would’ve been awesome. Wish I had done it.thanks for posting this.
* Buys a valuable classic motorcycle with only 251 miles “We are going to swap engines” 😅
That part made me cry 😢
Was wrong, just wrong. Could have picked up a poor example and not F'd up a clean classic bike.
This was the comment I was looking for, couldn't believe Shawn was so casual about suggesting swapping the motor out on that beautiful old classic bike & potentially ruining it. Fixing one old bike by ruining another pristine example makes zero sense.
.
Xs400 was my first street bike, would love to have that one he found.
Clearly not a bike guy! How could he do that 😫
Oh man, that mint old yamaha and you start to pull it apart, that broke my heart!!!
Yea that was rough but at least it was for a good cause and a much rarer bike.
@@mcearl8073 what good cause?, that was a pretty well preserved bike that was canibalized to revive a machine that's been eaten by corrosion for god knows how long, there are bikes in worse conditions they could've used for that project. Hope they get this thing going somewhere with the electric motor and give that yammie a good home.
This is still my favorite bike you have shown. If I could have a bike (I'm legally and almost full blind) I'd have one of these, or that other one that has the lifting side wheels. :)
What a friend. With friends like you, hell Craig dont need enemies. Damn youre like Ramsey Bolten
I remember wanting on of these when I was a teenager.
@Griff Benoit Add 18 to that.

I saw several of these for sale in Baton Rouge, LA in the 1980s. I wanted one back then. Still super cool.
Your new project is the cats butt! When you do manage to get it going, youll have a fun ride that youll never want to put away in the garage!! Its just too much fun to put away. Youre always finding some amazing things to work on!
Okay, you got me. I chuckled when I saw you were on a trailer! You're a good guy, Sean. Love your sense of humor and that you don't take life too seriously.
Fricking sick. I love the balls on this channel to try to most off the wall stuff. It's like an adult kid dream
I grew up and live in the town (Owosso MI) where these were created and built. I remember seeing one on a regular basis cruising through town. Awesome find!
I built one of these back around 88...it was a blast to ride in, but a bit un-nerving to get used to!
Can't wait to see how this thing turns out! I never ever saw a bike like this, kinda reminds me these neon bikes from Tron movies. Hope everything will work on this bike and I hope Craig gets even better! Much love from a guy who doesn't even have bike license :)
God i laughed so hard when i heard your optimistic speach then see you're on the trailer! 🤣🤣🤣
Wtf is a speach
stopglobalswarming it’s a mix of beach and speech
It's absolutely beautiful. From a future pilot's perspective, it's neat.
I just got my '86 Honda Helix running pretty good from hardly even able to crank and it really was an amazing feeling (:
Ok I’m defo needing to know when part 2 will be out I need to see U drive this thing. love from the uk 🇬🇧
Can’t wait to see the finished bike .... would be cool to make it look like that fighter jet in the beginning 👍🏼👍🏼
iv seen lots of crazy 80s vehicles but this is epic.
I got to drive one of these in my teens because a friend's father owned an exotic car dealership and it came in as a trade in the mid 90's. It's interesting to say the very least! The one I drove had a 1000cc sportster motor in it.
I was so excited when I saw that bike! I've seen it on craigslist and marketplace for a while. And I always told myself I'd buy it because it was so strange. That's also my local Yamaha dealer. I hope Joe treated you well!
He did he was super nice
I am looking forward to see this project come to life again :)
I love your unapologetic profession of Faith even more than the actual content.
I think you would be much happier and safer in the Swiss version of this bike. The side stability wheel's and struts retract at speed which allows the motorcycle to lean. The Pulse while it looks cool will catch pot holes or high spots in the road sending you flying. See Xtracer for the electric version it has been taken to 195mph and carrys two with AC and stereo
Part of the appeal is that in the US these are regarded as a 3 wheel car and no motorcycle endorsement required. Also my buddy's wife would only ride in the Pulse but not on back of a bike. X-tracer was awesome.
Man I can’t wait for part 2
There is a guy in annapolis Maryland that has one and it’s super clean. He takes it to car meets in the summer Sunday mornings, always cool to see. Sounded great.
👍Very 🏆 Cool!👍
I saw one of those going down the highway over in Washington DC when I was a kid back in the early eighties.
Very rare to see a working one.
Swap it with electric an electric motor, it will kinda sound like a jet engine.
Definitely would be cool with an electric engine
Jet engine would be better. Make it fly.
Stick an actual jet engine in it and it will sound like a jet engine. Here is a video with a jet engine swapped BMW: czcams.com/video/gcJCY8kXEkw/video.html
"9 or 11 years nobody knows" I'm pretty sure your wife will know exactly to the day hour and minute 🤣🤣🤣
I had that exact same garelli in yellow! I still miss that moped to this day and stare at the photos
I remember the first time I saw one of those, always wanted one.
Don’t make it electric!!!!!!!! Put an R1 engine in it and take it drag racing, it’s a fighter jetcycle, it’s supposed to go really fast!
If I put an electric motor in it. I wil make it insanely fast
@@BikesandBeards true

Production value has gone up on your videos considerably this year. Awesome content man!
Man, i know its been an year but i totally hate it when you de-assembled that Yamaha zx400. IT BROKE MY HEART
The only way training wheels would ever look cool on a motorcycle
There is a guy locally that has one and drives it all the time, pretty much a daily for him. I think it is number 63, but I read they made 347 of them, so think you mixed up the 2 with 3 ;) But either way, they are very cool autocycles and look forward to seeing what you all do with it.
I was totally amazed that these existed. Cool as hell.
failure builds up your tolerance to try and fail - and makes the wins feel amazing
I remember these being built on the other side of the factory I worked at back in 1985 in Owosso, Michigan. They had one there that had a Ford Escort 1.6L engine in it. That one was fast.
Are you confusing that with the Elio designed by Paul Elio was made in Michigan? That never took off either.
@@JessicaSimonson1976 Nope, it was called the Pulse
@@shrek_428 Paul Elio in first Elio used a 1.3 l Ford Motor it was a 2 up cycle car
@@JessicaSimonson1976 Paul Elio was based in Livonia, Michigan, and built his cars around 2009. The Pulse was built in Owosso, Michigan in the mid 80's
I got the notification while watching it lol
I agree bringing life to an old bike an making things work is a great feeling. It is a lost art lol
Why have I never seen this channel before now.....This is so interesting, I hate bikes but this channel just is so dayum interesting.......plz make that into an actual futuristic design.
I'm currently reviving a motorcycle too. A 2006 Honda VTX1800 with only 1,700 miles on it. Previous owner had it sitting for a few years. Cleaned out gas tank, new spark plugs, new fuel lines, new fuel pump, new fluids. Just saving up some money now for tires.
I love it, it's the best for an electric conversion, it'll do zero to 60 in 3 secs with a nice brushless motor and lion batteries 😎
My BMW F800ST will do 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. And it will go further than any electric will.
0:18 brooo you stay with the most crazy jokes from any religious person I’ve ever seen😂😂😂 absolutely savage
You've got master mechanic Craig with you! No worries yo! Much Love!
I’m a life long airplane lover and motorcycle rider! I would totally sacrifice the Yammie for that part of history if needed. The plane/biker is off the chart on the cool factor. When I see it I think of the few prototypes of the Elio’s that are around. In a few years someone’s going to come across one of those. Of course I’m one of the few that prey they make it if for nothing but the American Dream! God bless you guys! Keep it between the ditches!
That thing looks like it's been under water for a bit looks wild tho
Welp can’t wait to see this floating around Landisville 😂
Dude I loved driving by one of these off the local freeway, some lawfirm had one as a building ornament. Always loved looking at it
Wow 😳 love to see the plans and design on the motor cycle frame
This thing is like the entirety of TopGun in a single vehicle
I could have swore a engine also needed air to run👀
Same. They seem to forget that part of the equation. All. The. Time.
That XS400 was my first bike. Mind you it was a 1976 and I bought it in 1984 and it looked like the one in the Pulse. Every Yamaha engine I saw in the Great Lakes area looked like that after a couple years.
Love it what ever you do to make it road worthy will be worth it. Great project.
you should start a series called craziest motorcycles or "I cant believe its street legal"
Hey there's a mini chopper 50cc I was wondering if you could review it
now that's a cool bike. an you have to paint it like a jet fighter.. it would look so cool running down the highway.
The Pulse makes me think of the Elio. I wanted one or two of those. Elio seems like it'd be the ideal work car.
Huge heavy idea with undersized drivelines. I remember these in the 80's, look neat but when you know what you're looking at you realize it's all looks and little more. I guess the guy saw what an Ecomobile could do, and made a cheap copy that did little. Stuff like this usually ends up in the side yard rotting away. Honestly the little Yamaha 400 they wanted to rob parts from was a better bike, I've worked on a few. Perfect little commuter and running around town bike.
Damn! I would have gave him $2,500 for that Yamaha he decided to shred.
Criminal stripping that bike. Would have pulled much bigger money here in UK.
Dad had one of these when I was a kid, it was called the Pulse Areo, was red and was so cool
That reminds me of the “Lean Machine” back in the 80’s, used to see it in some ride video at Epcot.
When Bikes and Beards becomes VGG!
VGG is Vice Grip Garage
"it ran when I parked it"....how many of us have heard those words before?
yup what a lie
My '81 Honda CB900C ran when I parked it, but I parked it about 16 years ago and haven't touched it since. Doubt that it runs now without some work.
I have a yamaha xs400 special 1980 as well.. Trying to get it back to full restoration! Nice video :)
I saw one of these years ago at the York PA bike fest. Very cool!
Get it to fly! lol
Yeah he should lol 😂🤣
thats my goal for everything
Lol you found a collectable “motoplane”
Nice to have you back Creg
As a kid growing up in the early 80's, I wanted one, I figure it would of been the ultimate road trip bike ever. The one thing I hat about riding is the rain and I was 110% sure that would solve this problem.
It’s literally rocket science lol
