Let me know when you have to go 5 weeks without commercial power. Every day I look out at a power pole that was put in in 1978 and is the only one on a 5 block stretch of road that was one that has survived after Hurricane Andrew. Power companies do their best to restore power to the most customers first and then the smaller areas. But when there are no power poles left standing for miles, it takes a while. Most 3 phase lines down here are on concrete poles now as they are the only thing that can stand up to the winds. Although brand new ones that were 4 feet in diameter couldn't beat Andrew.

    Hello from England ☺️.
    Feeling so sorry for
    homeless folk who
" live " on the streets
    of L . A . .😢.
    Especially during blizzards
    and floods ( Feb. 2023 ).🌧️.
    How on earth are they
    supposed to keep
    warm & dry ?
    Even a cheap , small
    wooden shed with layers
    of insulation, then tarpaulins,
    would not cost a huge
    amount, ( who among us
could bear to live in a nylon
    tent all winter ?!),
    for the sake of
    giving folk a tiny home
    they can work from, i.e.,
    get food, maybe some light
    work, medicines? food ?
    Thinking about Asian "Yurts",
    which are comparitively cosy...
    Maybe there could be a
    campaign to donate spare
    duvets , waterproof them,
and use to wrap up the tiny
    homes, not only against winter
cold, but also to keep off the
    worst of summer heat...

    National Weather Service Storm Info:
Southern California is known for its unpredictable weather, which can include droughts, wildfires, and sudden rainstorms, depending on the season.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issues various types of warnings and advisories to help residents prepare for and respond to severe weather conditions.
In recent years, Southern California has experienced several severe winter storms, including the "Pineapple Express" storm in 2019, which brought heavy rain and caused flooding and mudslides in some areas.
In 2023, the NWS will likely continue to issue warnings and advisories for severe weather events, including winter storms, thunderstorms, and monsoonal storms.
Residents should stay informed about weather conditions by monitoring local news and weather reports, and following any evacuation orders or emergency instructions issued by local authorities.
The state and local authorities may also continue to implement measures to mitigate the impacts of severe weather events, such as building flood barriers, clearing storm drains, and providing emergency shelters.
To prepare for possible storms, residents should take steps such as securing loose items outdoors, stocking up on emergency supplies, and having a plan in place for evacuation if necessary.

The problem is the farm soil doesn’t hold water like it suppose to, years and years of pesticide heavy farming has caused the soil to hold significantly less water.

    • @gregall2178

Droughts are from not getting precipitation during the winter (wet season). Drought conditions have existed for several years. One wet season may not make up for 5 dry years.
...and yes, when rain and snow falls reservoirs fill.
