  • You wouldn’t think to find a fleet of Classic International Harvester Tractors on Long Island, New York, but that’s where the Kraszewski Family amassed an impressive collection. The standouts are their collection of authentic Golden Demonstrators. One of the Kraszewski Family’s most prized tractors is their International 1026 Hi-Clear Golden Demonstrator. It is one of only two known to exist. Four or five months in 1970 International Harvester painted tractors gold and sent them out to let farmers test out the new hydrostatic transmission. Only five models (544, 656, 826, 1026 and 1456) were painted with a gold hood and fenders. Most of the Golden Demonstrators were repainted when they were sold to the farmer. No documentation exist on how many of these Golden Demonstrators were painted, so first hand accounts or visible evidence of golden paint is needed for authentication. Having an authentic golden demonstrator could add $10,000 US dollars to the value of the tractor. Fakes are known to exist, so before you buy make sure there is evidence to backup the fresh paint job.

I don't own tractors, don't farm but I love machines and live in a farming community. These collections are just GREAT!! Part of American history. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Never knew these were so rare. Got one on our farm, assuming my grandpa bought it new. Has a IH cab on it, thinking must have been installed later since it partially covers the demonstrator sticker. They definitely used it on our farm has 8843 hrs. Hydro was awesome just a little noisy with the tin box on it.

My Grandfather bought a 1026 Gold Demonstrator in 1970 and was one of only 2 in the state of Michigan at that time. The 1026 International Hydro was absolutely my favorite tractor. My Dad took it to many tractor pulls and beat many bigger horsepower tractors. In it's day the 1026 Hydro was a amazing tractor. Very smooth and great to drive!

I ran an 856 hydro gold in 1972 an a few years later for a farmer in Idaho. He bought it to run a JD sugar beet thinner. we did all of his acers and did custom work as well. We would mount a loader on front and it was a sweet loader tractor with the hydro transmission. Really liked that tractor!

I’ve got a 484 almost as clean as y’all’s tractors. IH truly built their equipment to last . It’s a shame they lost their way. I’ve had this 484 37 years now and I’m keeping it , I know y’all are too. Enjoyed seeing your collection.

I’ve got an uncle with a 1456 demo with the wide fenders and tires and the headlights are round 6 inch singles mounted in front of the shift controls on each side of the hood. I haven’t seen another one like it anywhere in all the literature and videos if seem. Still gold under the hood top faded pretty much. I still remember the day he brought it to the farm.

I've never seen a 1026 high clear and didn't know they existed!
I was at our local dealership when the gold demonstration tractors were presented. Had a neighbour who got the 826 with what they called the German diesel. Lots of problems.
    Thanks

Dad had a 706 demonstrator. IH Built it with a larger engine than used on production units. But they must have kept the regular radiator Because it would overheat if worked hard.

My family’s farm had an 826 Hydro Demonstrator among other Farmall and IH tractors. The farm was sold in 1981. Besides the Super C which has been kept in the family, I wonder if any of them are still running?

If y'all ever do one about a Mahindra 5500 (not exactly a classic, but a neat tractor) call us XD. FYI, the Mahindra 5500 is (in a way) an IH descendant, in the 60s IH gave Mahindra some patents so they could make an IH tractor without all of the IH stuff (powershift, cab, syncronised transmission), with the exchange of a piece of the Mahindra red (suspiciously close to IH red) pie.

My dad had a 706 and a 504, very clunky. Then he got John Deere 3020s, like driving a sports car. I still have a 1971 3020.

    • @scotcoon1186
      @scotcoon1186 Před 5 lety +1

Update the 706 to the 56 series shifting, and you'll sing a new song.
Grandpa had a 4020 on order when he drove the 756. Took it home and cancelled the order on the 4020.
While the 4020 is a superior chore/auger tractor to anything build in the sound guard era, I'd take a 56 or 66 series International any day.

These guys don’t bother to thank the equipment dealer in Tennessee that drug that 1026 gold demo out of the southern Louisiana briar patch during an ice storm then spent a year chasing down the original parts before it was offered to them. If it wasn’t for me, this tractor would have become scrap, they would not have had a chance to buy it & they would not had gotten in contact with the original owner. It’s ungrateful people that burn your ass.

Wish I knew a dealer as dedicated as you certainly does not a sound like a easy task locating one of these tractors. What’s the name of your dealership I’d like to see what you’ve got. Thank you for saving this piece of history from the scrapyard and I’m sorry you didn’t get the recognition you deserve.
