I've tried both for days and the Sony destroys the Beats hands down. I even gifted a pair for Christmas to my son and he's been won over and he's a Beats guy. Well now, he's a Sony guy.

You need to take care of the beats and also you need to listen to the beats on a good music app like musi app and equalizer and free good music quality try them with bass booster and you won’t be disappointed in how loud clear and bass heavy they sound trust me

I quit when he said that the Beats are more comfortable...they're the most uncomfortable pair of head phones I've tried so far.
If the studios are anything like the Beats Studio Wireless 2.0 that I own, they are way more comfortable. And if not you can easily switch ear cushions out in like 5 minutes. Look up Wicked Cushions, they make custom Beats cushions. PLUS comfort is subjective

Because even at that price range Emmanuel, you can find better headphones. Really they are only worth $125 US IMO. My brother use to work at Best Buy and they get it at a discount pretty much at the price the company buys it at (I think +25% on top of company cost). He told me he could buy Beats for $150 . They're cheap and don't sound as good as they cost.

I bought my daughter the Beats because that's what she wanted. I bought myself a used pair of the Sony 1000X (so arguably not as good as the XM2's here). The Beats aren't in the same league as the Sony's, apart from costing a similar amount. The Sony's are far, far better.
I dropped my WH-1000XM2 on the first day I got them from about elbow height because I left the case unzipped on my desk. They landed very loudly on the hard wood floor, but to my amazement, they didn't seem to suffer any damage. I will let you know if anything comes up, but I've been using them since I got them on Christmas and no issues yet. Also, I've never had to recharge them !😃 It just went to saying "battery low" late this evening and I checked periodically throughout the day. I'm hoping I'll get at least 1 more day on the battery. I think I'm going to invest in a metal headphone stand to keep them out of the case as much as possible. I had no idea that the reason the previous model's headband broke was due to the case. Now I'm nervous. Please someone respond to this comment if you found that the headband broke under any circumstances, light or heavy usage, whatever. I need to know what to avoid since I can't afford to replace these...
does your ear be hurting after using?
tanky nope, they are great. They will make my ears sweat after several hours of listening, but I never notice it until the headphones come off when I see a thin layer of sweat on the cups. I have not experienced any discomfort using them
Great job. Very detailed comparison. I wasn´t sure which bluetooth headset to buy since my last pair died on me. So far It´s definitely Sony for me but I´ll keep on searching other options .

The sonys are pretty trick. I spent an hour demoing them on my lgv20 with various music sources, tidal hifi, spotify extreme, and other flac and lossless sources. I dont think anything else wireless compares to them. Aptx hd seemed to be a big step up from traditional sbc encoding. However its still noticably behind a wired setup. My $85 sony mdr7506 were a significant step up in audio quality. But, if your device doesnt have a very good dac or headphone amp you might see these wireless setups do better in the sound quality department. That being said im still considering these sonys, but $350 is a lot to swallow to take a step back in sound quality for convenience and noise cancellation.
Hey guys, any chance, in the future, when you do sound quality comparisons you can mention in the text at least the connection settings for each set of cans? Wired/wireless, phone model, usb-c to 3.5mm adapter if applicable (since it will house to dac), and Bluetooth codec in use otherwise? These can be important considerations.
As it stands I have no idea if these tests were done over ldac, apt-x, or SBC with DSEE HX enabled, all of which will introduce different qualities to the audio.

Just a warning: the Sony’s hinge is an issue even with the xm2s. I had mine since they came out and because of travel, I use the case a lot. The hinge broke on mine yesterday. Regardless, I will be buying my second pair of xm2s because nothing compares when it comes to silencing airplane noise.
At what volume was the music being played at for the sound leakage test?
Beats has been getting better recently,and Sony,well,they need to have better material for the hinges.

Before I say this, know I am not hating on Sony, I actually want them to succeed at making Bose, Beats, etc. history. That being said, I have a bone to pick with Sony and most people who own or buy this headphone will sympathize with me. One last thing to preface- the headphone is PHENOMENAL, and the only issue I have is ear cups heating.
Everyone reading this - create a Sony account on Sony.com, go to a forum or review of WH-1000XM2, and tell Sony that customers want them to create ear cups similar to the Bose QC35s for the WH-1000XM2 - ear cups that don't sacrifice their unmatched Active Noise Cancellation level. Tell them it will help them bring in more people since most people care a TON about comfort, regardless of how AMAZING the headphone is apart from comfort. People who wear headphones for long periods of time. Tell them they should sell them separately rather than making customers buy an entirely new update, because 99% OF THEIR CUSTOMERS EITHER WON'T OR CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE A HEADSET FOR EAR CUPS ALONE. In other words, 99% of their customers will return the WH-1000XM2 for the Bose due to persistent heating in the ear cup. You can't beat out the Quiet COMFORT 35 series without improving your headphone's comfort to match Bose. If people can make Sony aware of this, Sony will improve both customer satisfaction and sales. Again, I think it would be a rip-off for Sony to require an entirely new headphone update to make the ear cups live up to the premium level of the headphones and their premium price range.
If anyone knows of replacement ear cups for the WH-1000XM2 that do not create sound leakage or affect noise cancellation, please tell me the name of the manufacturer. I think that Sony's engineers are absolute GENIUSES and that they would do the best job if they focused on creating separately sold ear pads. They are a busy company, but if people give enough requests for ear cups, they will see that it would be profitable to create separately sold ear cups. FYI, I am aware that Sony sells replacement ear cups, but they are the same as the ones which come with the headphone. I'm looking for a new, cooler ear cup
The reason I am so passionate about this is that as one who has to manage two (high-functioning) mental disorders, ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome, I have sensory issues and get very over-stimulated and distracted by noise, and I need as much concentration and as little sensory stimuli as possible while in college studying engineering. To have this beautiful, perfect noise cancellation and then experience heating ear cups is kind of a let down, especially if they will force people to buy the next model (if there is one) to get better ear cups. It is like buying a brand new, high-end car and only to find later that there is a dent right on the front bumper. I don't think it is as extreme, nor is it technically a defect, but the heating ear cups are a pretty significant and justified annoyance, like a dent on a brand new car.
I feel you brother, my only concern is the comfort. I own both and I use the sony`s daily on subway commute etc. But switch to QC35 on a longer flight due to comfort
All you people don't get it. Nobody is saying Beats are the best headphones in the market. The reason people buy them is the same reason somebody would buy a Lamborghini Galardo over an Audi R8. Lambo is a car everybody knows that looks magnificent but it's not as fast as R8. In this situation Beats are way more beautiful as a design and people tend to buy them over other Headphones because it is a brand and they look cool. Hell, you can even style them with your outfit.
Hi, for xm2 battery do you measure the battery life without dsee hx on? I realize when I listen with dsee hx on, the battery life decrease drastically.

Beats were my last choice....jvc 650’s and Bose350 were what I assumed i would like...tried them and bought beats...I like Rock, Country and jazz....Beats were not as crystal clear as the others but sounded really good and rocked Classic Rock and the other styles of music....personal tastes i guess...

I just bought the Sony MDR_1000X and I can easily say it's overrated headphone.I will start with the good parts then the bad parts.Noise cancelling is really good , headphone is so comfortable , touch controls and siri/google connection is good.Now the bad parts : very low volume , terrible phone call quality ,bad for gym/workouts(makes you sweat a lot), terrible bluetooth connection that pushes you to reset / reset factory settings almost everyday.After 2 days I decided to send back to the shop.

my xb950bt also broke at the hinges in 3 months. Sony has good audio quality but for the price paid, they are very bad quality. I don't recommend.
Looks like Sony either has no idea how to make hinges or they do it on purpose to get people to keep buying new headphones.

I tested both headphones extensively b2b at the store... and yes the sony's do sound a little bit better... although a bit more artificial too, especially in the upper mid range... but to be honest most people will struggle to find too much of difference.... the real difference was with the build quality... the beats felt more plasticky than the sony's... although sony's are also made of mostly plastic... either way the beats seemed more fragile to me.... that's one place apple need to step in because the sound quality and anc has been improving over the years.... now when it comes to anc... the sony's again seemed a little better... not by much though.... the other thing that made an immediate impression to me was the fit... beats fit much muchh more secure on the head... whereas the sony's seemed quite loose and felt like they might slip off my head if I make a sharp movement.... now the final thing i want to talk about it the controls... which turned out to be the deal breaker for me... the touch controls of the sony's seemed quite finicky if I have to be honest.... if the touch controls were more responsive i most probably would have went with the sony's.... however i've been using the beats for over a week now and i have to say im quite happy with them.... the sound is more crisp and the base is more tight after about 12h burn in and the anc works very well and also does not make this artificial thumping sound when walking (cant say the same for many other anc headphones i've tried)

I have both of these in my possession right now. I agree the Sony's sound better, they are very very good and the features are great compared to the Studio 3's. However I don't think people understand just how ugly the Sony's look on a bald head. I just cannot get myself to wear these in public. The temple gap is huge and they look ridiculous. The Studio 3's look much more stylish and sleek to the head. I also don't believe there is THAT much difference in sound quality between the 2 when using my Note 8. A more premium audio source may create greater separation but with my setup I don't hear it. Plus the Studio 3's are $50 cheaper at the moment. So I'm sticking with the design of the Studio 3's over the the slight better sound and technology of the Sony's.

There is lot of headphones just as good as beat and as good looking for under 100$ just look it up. Im sure skullcandy or such have one like that

Sonys are better but if you workout, beats win, if you have apple devices and switch around, beats win, if you don't want the band snapping after only a few months, beats win, among other factors. You pay for the Sony name and name equally as much as the beats name imo. Don't follow the hype.
