    Excellent. A good drowned beetle imitation I think. :-)

    For practical fishing purposes do u ever dress this fly with a thread Rib or maybe a layer of glue under the herl or something for durability?

      You could wrap up the herl through a split thread loop and spin it up.Quite durable.

    Another classic. I'm interested. Where did tyers obtain the "exotic" feathers and herl? Women's hats? I know here in the US Appalachians, Peacock and Guinea fowl were used as alarm systems on small farms. In the late 1800's early 1900's were these materials readily available in the North Country?

      It was freely available. I suppose most stately homes and English mannor house had some form of imported birds.

      @@thedalesangler Thank you. I am amazed how well Spiders work on our streams and rivers. Along with how well they work I enjoy the history.

    I was wondering, Have you tied this fly with a palmered body Robert, as it looks in Pritt’s book?

    • @thedalesangler
      @thedalesangler  Před 8 měsíci +3

      The illustration in Pritt's book is wrong. The fly doesn't have a palmered hackle.

    Barbed hook! Do you flatten it before fishing.

    what size the hook?

    • @thedalesangler
      @thedalesangler  Před 8 měsíci +2

      the sneck hook was a size15. If i'm using a modern hook, i would dress it on a size 16 or 18.
