This was obviously a lovely piece of furniture to start with, but I didn’t realise how stunning it was until you added your magic David. The wood grain in the veneer is positively nature at its best. The piece has been put together originally by a master craftsman and now it’s just been restored by another master. Your perseverance in getting it right, almost perfect in fact, stands testimony to your integrity and expertise in your field. I know you are far too modest to say anything like this about yourself, but believe it David, you are incredible at doing the right thing with furniture. I love watching your videos, could watch them every day, but I know your life is too busy for that kind of commitment to CZcams. I’ve missed your posts and was starting to suffer from withdrawal symptoms again. I was so delighted to see Mayfield Restorations on my feed. It’s not just that you are very good at what you do, I love watching Daisy (maybe not when she’s having a poo) too, and just listening to what you have to say. You are a lovely person and it shines through in your videos. Thank you for sharing this today, it cheered up my miserable weekend. Hope you have a great week ahead and hugs to beautiful Daisy. xxxx

So many beautiful pieces like this one wind up in thrift stores because of a few signs of wear and tear. Your work - and the owner's understanding of keeping such a piece as this - gives them new life and a proper place in the home for hears to come!

I'm loving watching this. Your doing a wonderful job. My dad built cabinets for people to put in their kitchen or bathroom. He also put on counter tops and layed flooring. I used doll house rope molding to restore a Bombay chest of drawers; soaked it to bend it it worked great!

I thoroughly enjoyed this restoration. It really didn’t seem that long. I think you forget how artistic your craft is. Matching those wood colours is a really fine art. I love watching folk breathe new life into old furniture, it really makes my heart sing. Thank you. I imagine in another century someone will be praising you as the last craftsperson to work on the desk. I hope the owner uses it. I have a similar one from c.1720 that I use as my computer desk. I love mine.

I remember when I asked my late father, a old time cabinet maker, to make me a filing cabinet from some beautiful Australian red cedar I had found on my travels. I asked for the drawer fronts to be beaded in a similar manner to the piece in this video, never quite knowing how he would do it. His tool collection was not comprehensive. I visited him to see progress on the piece, only to find he had made a moulding plane from scratch. The blade had a fine elegant profile, and was only ever used for this one piece. I still have some leftover moulding for what is my most prized furniture piece.
