- The song "Gypsy" by Uriah Heep, written by David Byron and Michael Box, captures a dramatic and intense narrative of love and conflict. The lyrics tell the story of a young man's tumultuous relationship with a gypsy queen and the familial opposition that challenges their love.

Hi Alan. Dreamare from the same album is a masterpiece. !!!😊
Dave , well im always open to more , so coming soon ....😀
Thanks Alan
This track brings to mind circle of hands from demons and wizards.
I have been a fan of Uriah Heep for 40 years and this track has it all. You have Mick Box's heavy guitar riff which is still prominent when Ken Hensley's keyboards provide this amazing wall of sound.
You have hard rock, progressive rock almost orchestral elements all topped off with David Byrons operatic vocals.
It is hard to believe they were dismissed as a band that had no chance of making anything of themselves, ironically they are still performing today. I saw them back in March and they were fantastic.
I wish I’d had your words : knowledge when I was listening , you’ve nailed it 😊 loading up ( per a request ) Dreamare in the next 2 days , I’m so looking forward to hearing it , plus I won’t be totally blind so maybe I won’t fumble 🙄 I’m off to see Alice Cooper in October ! What are your views on him ?
@alan-reacts65 I think when listening to a band for first time it is always best to start at the beginning and that was a great track to start with because there is so much going on from start to finish. Alice Cooper a great performer, has produced some really great stuff over the years and I think he released his debut album back around 69, 70. Also he is a really great guy.
I had the pleasure of seeing Alice Cooper at Wembley in the early 70’s on his Killer tour. What a showman !!
You will enjoy the experience 👍
@@daveramsey100 thanks bud 😊 I’m looking forward .. btw I’ve got Gary Numan at the city hall tomorrow in Newcastle 😎
The younger folks that I have introduced to bands like Uriah Heep and Deep Purple hear them as early heavy metal and are astounded that keyboards and synthesizers can carry the lead in place of guitar. I think it would have a totally different impact if a guitar tried to play those solos. I don''t know much about UK radio in the 60s and early 70s (although I read today that Radio Caroline is still going and celebrating 60 years of broadcasting--good movie about that too) but the independent album-rock FM stations in the US played these longer cuts and welcomed the diversity and creativity. IMHO, independent FM radio played a big part in the explosive growth of all kinds of rock and progressive music. Sadly, corporate media has stalled a lot of the growth of contemporary music. I also remember a time when hip-hop stations were pretty much underground or pirate radio.
Pinned 😊👍😎
The late sixties, early seventies were a time of experimentation in rock music with people trying lots of different ideas and styles. Uriah Heep were one of the bands I saw and really took to. The critics hated them as you say, but they hated a lot of the music I like, so I don't take a lot of notice of them. Read some of the stuff written about Rush ! 😄
What genre is this ? who cares ! if I like it, that's good enough for me. This was a great time to be young and going to see new bands play and hear what they had to offer. Still going to gigs in my mid 70's just find it harder now to stand for a couple of hours 🤣 Thanks for the reaction 👍
I really hope to be going to gigs in my 70’s and if I could place my self in your generation ( 1 before mine ) I can only imagine 😊👍
Hi Alan, this band was slated for their music at the time of this release. They took a lot of flak and were left wondering what was required to progress. They reacted by ignoring the press and concentrated on their live shows. They have had some hard knocks through the years, but are still circulating on the rock circuit to date, and the music has (IMO), got better and better.
Something I’m hoping to get into is the progression 👍 I’ve started ( I believe ) at the beginning, and now I’m going to enjoy the next year 😊👍
@@alan-reacts65 If you could take the time to look them up on CZcams, watch one of their recent live shows, you will be astonished I assure you.
You need to listen to "Return to Fantasy"
Noted and written down 😊 thank you, dreamare is next 😊
What genre? Hard Rock.
Demons and Wizards was one of my Fav Then Priest, Maiden etc took over 🙂
More priest this week 😊👍
After a while it gets boring. Same way as some ELP. Maybe an overdose organ...
I'm german, so I like Prog 😂.
Especially Krautrock like Birth Control. Try "Hodoo Man", if you like.
Greetings
I’m not German and I like prog 😮😂 I will take a look at the bands you name , after all it’s music and what can be bad about that 👍😎
You picked one of their worst songs.
I just started at the beginning , can you point me elsewhere ?
From Look At Yourself album: Tears in My Eyes, July Morning, Title track 2. From Demons and Wizards: The Wizard, Circle of Hand, Paradise/The Spell; From The Magicians Birthday: Tales, Echoes in the Dark; From Sweet Freedom: If I Had the Time, Pilgrim, Sweet Freedom
@xomthood thank you I’ve saved the list and I will go to those tracks 😊😎👍
