  • Indian Springfield First Ride Review
    www.revzilla.com/common-tread/...
    In a world that places a premium on ever-slimmer, understated displays of performance and prowess, the 2016 Indian Springfield is an unapologetic throwback that is steeped in the elegance of antiquity. Fortunately for us, we have an equally elegant throwback to match the Springfield; Uncle Loomis! Rounding out his winter migration south, Lemmy stopped by the Indian press event for a First Ride Review of this masterfully constructed piece of artwork-on-wheels. With bold styling, sturdy features, and an engine profile that kicks “understated” right in the teeth, the Springfield is a sledgehammer of Americana that has come to claim its rightful place as the king of the highway.

    A vastly underrated bike. After riding so many Harley’s, I’ve been blown away by the performance, finish and fuss-free ownership of the Springfield:
    The Thinking Man’s cruiser.

    This is my dream bike. I test rode one about a year ago and it rode every bit as nice as Lemmy says. One thing he didn't mention so much was the low speed compliance. I'm 5'6" and could flat-foot both feet at the same time on this bike. It never once made me feel nervous about the weight and it never felt too big even in stop-and-go city traffic. Polaris really nailed it with this bike IMO!

    I test rode this bike last week and it was phenomenal. As someone who has only owned sport bikes, the comfort was incredible and the suspension, as you mentioned, ate everything. My wife was in love. Testing the new Road King tomorrow but the wife pretty much has her heart set on the Indian, and I nearly do too at this point.

    Brilliant review as always.
    Indian seem to have shown Harley Davidson how it's really done. Far superior in every way.
    I love Harley but the Indian range is next level stuff. Too long have Harley sat on the back burning by not updating it's brand.
    I test rode a Scout 1130 yesterday, what an amazing bike. Handling, engine, comfort, styling. Matte grey paint with light tan bags, amazing. Suspension was great too (all in my opinion)
    Next bike is the Scout for sure.
    I wonder where Harley will go from here. Any thoughts??

      They'll probably work on improving the Street 500 and 750, as those are aspirational bikes in emerging markets. They'll also likely expand the use of the Twin-Cooled Motor as well as sell more trikes. -DrewZilla

    Boys and their toys, yep broke open the piggy bank and bought my 17 Indian Vintage blue/cream. They delivered it on Halloween day. A lot to learn about it but my horn still won't work?? It's brand new? It's the smoothest bike I ever owned, before I had a Yahama Roadstar Silverado 1600. Put over 80k on it. I got my money works out of it, I bought an extended warranty on it but nothing happened. My 17 Indian Heritage is so quiet shifts easy rides like a dream I don't regret buying it now I'm just enjoying it.

    Well up here in Canada the Springfield goes for $26200. The RoadKing with ABS $22700. I can take the saved 3500 bucks and upgrade the HD suspension to match or best the Springfield, and have money left over. If the RoadKing is the target... Indian missed it . Great looking bike though. Polaris has done a good job across the range

    I had a chance to test ride this bike yesterday in Indianapolis. It was a bike with only 5 test miles on it that the mechanic put on and was the only Springfield in the dealership cuz Indian sent every dealership exactly one bike. I loved it, it is silky smooth, sounds great, handles awesome, turns like you wouldnt believe an 850 pound beast that low to the ground could. I would pick the lower windshield or eliminate it altogether. Other than that and the well known right thigh roasting heat coming off the engine, there is nothing that needs improvement. If I had the cash I would buy it no question.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  Před 8 lety

      +Nor-Cal Refrigeration & H.V.A.C Here's what Lemmy had to say about it: _"The fit was comfy for me. I'm six feet tall and ring in around 275, and I was not cooped up. I tend to gravitate towards bikes built on large frames for that exact reason. I did not feel the seat was very far back at all; I was in the classic touring position of hands in front and a little low, and my feet slightly ahead with legs bent somewhere near a 90° angle. I definitely was not sitting in the bike, I was on it, which I personally prefer. Being on the bike keeps my legs from being wadded up, and on a real low "sitting in the bike" type of motorcycle, I feel uncomfortable. Of course, like everything else in this world, that's just a personal opinion and you may feel totally differently."_ Hope Lemmy was able able to answer your question! -DrewZilla

      That's what I needed to know! I'm 6'1 330lbs and my wife is 5' 180lbs (adjustable floorboards would be a blessing for her)! It is hard to find a bike that is (a) comfortable on long rides and (b) able to handle our combined weight and extra gear/luggage. If I understand the GVWR 1385 lb. / Weight 852 lb. wet, of the Springfield correctly, we still might not be able to carry much more no?

I have a scout that cooks my leg pretty good in traffic recently decided to upsize to something touring and debating either the Springfield or road king, I test road the RK and didn't feel much heat and being from south Texas that's a huge one for me. Also how was the lean angle compared to road king? Lots of tasty twisty roads in the hill country and I don't wanna be dragging metal through every turn.

    If only I wasn’t 14, it’d be nice to own a bike like this. I’m gonna try to get my job permit when I’m 15 and hopefully get a job to save up for a cheaper bike that looks like this. I’d get my permit now, because my state’s minimum working age is 14, most places wouldn’t hire a 14 year old, and I currently have a pretty busy schedule this school year.

    How would you compare the feel and ride of this to the vintage?

      The Springfield is a bit more nimble at low speed and tight places. The rake is shorter on them.

    One would have to go outta their way to get the bling with Harley, props to Indian for doing it out right. It seems now a days a Harley buyer would spend a fortune trying to accumulate some chrome.

    I love the Springfield, but to be honest, for the money I'd be more interested in the Roadmaster, which I rented for a week from EagleRiders in Las Vegas last November. If your shooting for that much money, and looking for comfort, the Roadmaster was hands down a better bike. Big beer box, which lit up when open, panniers huge enough to keep all the wife's shopping in, a windsheild with touch controls up and down, and the 111 engine that effortlessly kept me at 110 mph through the long stretches of endless desert roads.

    Are those bags quick detach?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  Před 5 lety

      They're relatively quick-detach, as you have to unplug the wires for the electric locks. Take a look at the link below. -DrewZilla
